I'm Still Waiting For The Stigma Of Adoption To Go Away

Commented Jan 30, 2013 at 19:21:44 in Parents

“Dear Kathy,
I am 62 years old and have gone to many doctors and never seen any box on paperwork for "I am adopted". I have wondered about it for many years because when my daughter was 15 she had a baby girl and gave her up for adoption. We were a broken family for 20 years. I prayed for my daughter and granddaughter daily. A year and a half ago this darling young lady found us. She is good, so good. But I know she has issues we have hardly touched. But I am lucky, she loves my hugs and neither of us can get enough of them. When I sent first photo I had of her to my brother he wrote back "Are you alright? Didn't you just send me a photo of Jess, my niece?" My daughter has peace that she was missing ever since she gave up her baby girl. Nothing is perfect but everything is better than it was. And our lovely granddaughter was adopted and raised by a wonderful loving family who have been as generous and open to my daughter and my husband and me as anyone could hope for. All good people, I think, even us, but mistakes hurt.”
