“That was my first issue with this debate as well. The problem is that JMc has no domestic policy to speak of. The only time these people condescend to speak to the middle class is when they are looking for votes. Brokaw gave him a pass last night. Lame.”

“I'm sorry, but there is no excuse for ignorance in today's world. I know that Colorado has broadband and libraries and everything a voter needs to inform themselves. If people choose to be ignorant it is because they are lazy and disinterested.

I know because I'm in Dallas. That puts me in the nest of ignorant voters. We call them RINOs. Republican In Name Only. They vote the way they do because that's what they were taught. If they actually took the time to inform themselves they would be a lot closer to the middle than they care to admit. I've managed to convert a few close friends, but I'll be shocked if O can take Texas. Colorado should be a cakewalk.”

“Here in ruby-red Kansas we call them ostriches. That's because they "stick their head in the sand" when confronted with the truth. There was a best selling book "What's the Matter with Kansas" about this phenomenon, written by former Kansan Thomas Frank who also blogs occasionally on this post.

Living here, being surrounded by so many intellectually UNcurious people, is definitely out of my comfort zone. My husband is a farmer and, as such, is pretty much married to the land. Some of his relatives STILL believe George Bush was a great president. I'm appalled by people's lack of interest in the issues in our current tough times. I'm amazed that they can vote in kneejerk unison with the rest of the red chorus without "blinking" (borrowed from Sarah Palin). I'm amazed that they can look at themselves in the mirror and not be concerned about the futures of their children and grandchildren. I'm amazed that if they lose their job, their health care, their house, they still say "......but you wouldn't vote for a Democrat, would you?"

“After the first WTC bombing it became Clinton's top priority. There were no more bombings here under Clinton. Only after GWB cut the counter terrorism budget by millions of dollars and began to look the other way were we hit again. Why can't you see that?”

“Perhaps not, but he's been their biggest recruitment tool. He's created far more than he's eliminated and he's done it in hiding from thousands of miles away using our brave young men and women. Please don't buy into the fear mongering.”

"But He's a Muslim!"

Commented Aug 26, 2008 at 09:48:40 in Politics

“Even if he were a Muslim it shouldn't matter. The vast majority of Muslims are peaceful, intelligent, free thinking people. The problem is EXTREMISTS. We've had a Christian extremist running the show for almost eight years. This is a far more dangerous scenario because not only is he a religious zealot, he has the resources to destroy entire nations. Wake up, people! McCain is just as dangerous. There is a reason for separating church and state. GWB is the poster child for that.”

JohnShank replied on Aug 26, 2008 at 10:43:09

“Islam is just like Christianity, Judaism and the lot... All religions SAY they are about peace and love, but they all have done MUCH more harm to humanity than any other man-made dogma.”

“GWB isn't even a Christian extremist himself (just like he isn't really a cowboy), he just aligned himself with the "Christian Right" to get elected. Even worse.”
