Palin's Enemies List: Alaskan Bloggers

“That's disgusting. Has anyone told Harper Collins about this being allowed to go on at an event that they supposedly arranged? With pictures too, if any can be had?”

“Harper Collins could care less, they just want to sell books. Rupert Murdoch owns Harper Collins, and the citizen from Alaska is his new cheerleader. In fact, Murdoch and Palin are new BFF.
The citizen from Alaska certainly didn't know how to run her own healthcare plans in her own state. SHE CREATED HER OWN DEATH PANELS IN HER STATE. I am a recently retired ICD-9 Medical coder and insurance biller, and I can tell you first hand that the citizen from Alaska has no idea about healthcare.
Never, in the history of Medicare and Medicaid, has Federal funding been withheld from ANY state until Ms. Palin took over as governor. I believe this story is the reason the citizen quit in July as Governor, unfortunately, this story flew under the media radar, but, IMHO, this is a big story. This link is from the Anchorage Daily News, July 14, 2009.

“If we aren't out voting in force for those who'll bring about the policies we want, then we're in big trouble. In a sense, voting in Obama was just a start - stage one . Now we have to give him some real support in Congress in the next elections.”

“No, no, no.
Obama's the problem, dearie. Democratic voters got punked, but it was mainly our own fault. If you don't know the difference between real Democrats and the DLC, if you vote based on superficial sound bytes and campaign rhetoric that you are sure you know the candidates' and parties' meaning, you are a low information voter. What makes you think you know what "real support in Congress" looks like?
Rahm Emanuel created most of the Blue Dogs, selecting them to run for office, putting the Democratic Party apparatus behind their campaigns over real Democratic candidates in their home states. Obama and Rahm Emanuel made Blue Dogs stronger, more difficult to beat in 2010 and 2012 with the "go slow"/bipartisan approach.
This insurance & pharmaceutical industries' protection racket is Obama's bill. He took single payer off the table before negotiations even began. Obama needed to come out of the gate after assuming office with all cylinders firing to deliver on his campaign promises. Instead, Obama slammed on the brakes and reneged on one pledge after another, as if there was all the time in the world (and not a very tentative 60-vote majority in the senate, with two Democratic senators gravely and terminally ill).
Obama's not the answer; Obama (and the DLC) is the problem.”

“I find this entire discussion enlightening, to say the least. It confirms my suspicion that the vast majority of authors (as opposed to writers, which can be, and often is, a much different thing) are nothing more than panderers and sell-outs, willing to do anything to get noticed.
I blog and have a webs.com site. I also "tweet"--though that's only to tell another story, a subplot that's part of the larger story. And that's it. I honestly couldn't care less about having fans or followers: they simply aren't a priority. Nor should they be.
A famous blogger recently said of writing: "Don't quit your day job." He's right. He wasn't referring to the lack of cash that writing brings to most authors, but to the loss of integrity that inevitably follows upon the heels of any writer willing to do anything to get the cash than fandom hopefully generates.”

“You know something - even if I asked an expert, it's highly unlikely they could recommend something that I could stomach. That may be the issue at the heart of his essay in the end - maybe the genre just doesn't suit him. A very well read friend of mine got me to read a romance novel last year, but only because it was in many ways a spoof of the genre its author so dearly loved. It made me laugh and if it hadn't I would have despised it as much as Charlotte Bronte and her sisters held their time's literary conventions - especially as regarded female protagonists.”

“First, a list from the gentleman might have been helpful. Second, it isn't always easy separating the dreck from the good stuff especially when the cover art can be pretty formulaic thanks to a lack of corporate imagination. And third, I get his point - sorry - but I have picked up random 'romance' novels in the past - and what he described was what I encountered. Pretty formulaic stuff. I think the key is FINDING THE TRULY DECENT WORKS and as there is a lot out there, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was defeated by the sheer abundance of choice and then in the efforts of trimming it down for examples to study. I tend to avoid the genre anymore.”

Vietnam W A R produced our first wave of really PTSD infected veterans due to the fact we drafted many of them and purposely try to eliminate young men who were considered undesirable (Go to prison or the military.. . your choice for example).
We implemented one half of a psychologi cal/psychi atric theory that suggested that people don't get better in an institution. But the second half of the theory said that we have to have supportive services in the community to support those people. During the Reagan years, we deinstitutionalized thousands of people placing them onto the streets without support.
Over the past decades, due to the process for obtaining grant money, we have used creaming and cherry picking techniques to purify the truly ill individuals on the streets. We help the easy ones and turn away the hard to handle leaving them behind over and over.
You have one class of social worker left behind to deal with this population, law enforcement. Law enforcement is not good at social work. Ironically, we have spent the last two decades re-institu tionalizin g people into two new institutions, the jails and prisons. As such, we have the dubious distinction of having the highest per-capita prison population in the world. The prison now serve as mental health hospitals, drug rehab centers and nursing homes. And, they are not good at those things.”

“Dude, I hate to tell you this but Christ-Mass takes place on a pagan Roman solstice holiday and much of the 'Christ tale' was cribbed from Pagan religions. Back 2000 years ago there was some actual complaints about this from various Pagan authorities regarding the outright plagiarism that went on in which the Christian tradition stole from the various Pagan traditions. This is why the Jehovah's Witnesses don't celebrate it - for instance. There's an interesting book on that: Christo-Paganism is its main title, if I remember correctly.”
lyta replied on Nov 18, 2009 at 21:08:34
“All true. The organized universal catholic hierarchy were brazenly attempting to coop those holiday/ce lebrations to bring in those individuals resistant to losing their traditional celebrations originally based on agricultural seasons. They also needed to marginalize women who threatened their male power bases and succession rights. No marriage in the clergy means no succession or estates to pass to outside the clergy. All of this evolved over time. Christmas is more an American celebration than anywhere as a commercial saviour rather than a celebration of the saviour.”
