“What about eating out? I try not to eat fast food but it's hard since I'm hardly ever home. Is there a way to stick to the diet and still eat out economically?”

“Avoid it like the palgue. Even if its "healthy-ish" it is typically loaded with salt and God knows what else.
Personally I don't eat out unless it is a vegetarian place and only ocassionally or unless I am travelling. Even then I have grown accustomed to carting high energy treats- raisins and cashews and almonds and fruit (no power bars!).The y kill hunger pangs until you can get home to make a good meal and they are just great and non-fattening. Eat as much raw food each day as you can stand and you will feel a difference and so will your waistline.”

“Wanna eat fast food? Fine. Just eat less of it.
Usually have a hamburger and fries for lunch? Scrap the fries and switch to a diet drink (saving what, 500 calories?). Changing nothing else, you'll lose weight.
All of the nonsense about raw food diets, cutting out sugar, blah blah blah is too intimidating for middle America. Losing weight is about eating less, and exercising more.”

“You are surrounded by junk food. It is very difficult, when you are away from home on business, when you are working practically all day, to keep to a healthy diet. I haven't found the answer yet. I am onlyt giving you some sympathy.”

“Sub sandwiches or sandwich wrapds are better than burgers. I find that a salad at a local supermarket cafeteria is no more expensive that eating at a burger joint, but gives me a lot more veggies - and cottage cheese is higher quality protein than fried meat.”

“First off, who cares?
Second of all, I think Downey is messing with the studio. The promos are playing up Rachel McAdams as the love interest for Holmes -- so what, he's Bi now? Since when does he and Watson share a bed? (I'll admit I haven't read the books -- is this something that was alluded to in the original work?)
The promos indicate a fun romp, buddy comedy type movie. Does EVERYTHING have to have an hidden agenda now? Sheesh.”

“That's what wrong with Americans. Read Wayne Dyer's "Eighteen Excuses" and then come back and talk. You may be addicted to sugar, salt and fat. Read David Kessler's "The End of Overeating". Processed, junk food is everywhere, especially in HOSPITALS (Cathedrals of Sickness, as stated by Caldwell Esselstyn MD- "Reversing Heart Disease". Those of you who don't have time for exercise and nutrition, better reserve a lot of time for disease. Your doctor cannot make you healthy, only less sick. (I'm an MD).”

“I would have said the same thing 9 months ago. I started taking an all-natural fruit and vegetable supplement and found that it changed my cravings. Getting the nutrients and antioxidants that my body was really craving turned off the cravings for sugary, salty, and high carb "foods". I stopped craving soft drinks and found that water became the only thing that would satisfy my thirst. I've lost 34 pounds and I've got more energy than I've had since I was a kid.
I would also say that trying to kick the processed food habit without getting large amounts of nutrients into my body would have been just about impossible. I highly recommend that if you're serious about losing weight, fighting diabetes, ending fibromialga or chronic fatigue, then you need to get nutrients into your body every day.”

“Then don't do it and suffer the consequences.
This is the problem with this country. People are so used to having it easy that when they actually have to do something it's considered a burden beyond belief. They even make CHOICES such as drinking, smoking and gambling and even cheating as ADDICTIONS -- in other words, things beyond our control. Baloney.
You wan't to lose weight? Eat less and move more. Too hard to do? Then shut up and stay fat.”

“I have PCOS, which (I've been told) is the cause of my insulin resistance, I am overweight (have always struggled, but as an adult it just got out of control) and now pre-diabetic. I am on Metformin and Aspirn, with a water pill for pre-hypertension. I have a high stress job, a fairly stressful life (two children under the age of 6) and am exhausted ALL THE TIME. I'm very interested in learning more and hope it's something I can easily stick with.
As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to stop eating all together. I know I CAN'T, but I'd like to. I'm just so sick of it. Exercise didn't seem to help; I'm fairly active with children and chores on my days off, but have a sit down job for 8hrs/day. Can one just live on coffee? :-)”

“I don't have PCOS- but I believe that if you went on a very low carb diet you would feel a ton better. Especially cut out the grains and starches. That includes bread, pasta, corn, rice, oats, sugar potatoes. When I stopped eating so many carbs I could not believe how much better I felt- so much more energy. And I stopped retaining fluid almost immediately. It's been 18 months now since I started eating only 30-40 grams of carbs a day and my blood sugar is normal and my triglycerides are low. Not to mention I lost 46 pounds without ever being hungry. Protein and fat keep you full- carbs make you hungry. It's hard at first- but you can allow yourself little treats- the occasional chocolate covered almond, etc. You might want to read Dr. Bernsteins book "The Diabetes Solution" or go to the website www.phlaun t.com/diab etes. Or Google Blood Sugar 101. Good luck.”
