Time Mag Columnist: Obama Is "Very Rational-Sounding Sort Of Bigot"

“While I empathize with the frustration within the gay community over Prop 8, I think attacking Obama over this Rick Warren business is wrong-headed.
For the first time in eight years, the gay community has a leader in the WH that will have an open mind to their struggles. Reaching out to those like Pastor Warren who don't agree with him does not make Obama a "bigot", anymore than reaching out to Fidel Castro would make him a communist.
My own view is gays are sacrificing the good in search of the perfect. Most fair-minded Americans DO NOT oppose civil unions with full and equal protection under the law for gay couples. However if those same Americans feel they are being forced to compromise their religious convictions for the sake of a few, there will be a backlash.
My suggestion: Use the German model. All couples (gay or straight) go through a civil ceremony in city hall/justice of the peace, fully recognized by the state. Then couples (if they choose) have a separate religious ceremony recognized by their church. Most Americans would accept this. Marriage vs. civil unions is a semantics argument anyway.
Government should not be in the business of sanctioning religious ceremonies. Period.”

However I have always felt Hillary is looking toward 2016...see ms risky to tie herself to an administration where she would have influence but no control over foreign policy and would be tied to any potential mistakes (see Colin Powell). On the other hand, were she to score a major diplomatic victory (i.e. lasting Israel-Palestinian peace) she would be in an excellent position for 2016.
If I had to bet, this meeting was about retiring the rest of Hillary's debt.”

McCain Ad Uses President Clinton To Bash Democrats

“I think we are all looking at this the wrong way.
Part of Obama's appeal to independents is he is NOT associated with Bill and Hillary. Most polls show Obama leading McCain among independents. A lot of the Clinton supporters on here forget both Bill and Hillary were and continue to be polarizing figures in the general public.
In a perverse way, I think Bill's cold shoulder HELPS Obama in the long run. That being said, there's no question Bill does not like Obama, and continues to harbor resentment over the results of the primary.”

“I agree with the author. We have already underestimated Sarah Palin once this election cycle. We (and Joe Biden) would do well to learn that lesson.
If I was Joe Biden I wouldn't engage her in any discussion directly. One wrong move and he makes her the victim (again!). He should answer Gwen Ifill directly. But don't be dismissive (a la McCain last night).
If I were Joe, I would visualize I was debating Trent Lott instead of Sarah Palin.”

I suspect this might be good though as it will hellp to avoid instances where some women might view him as bullying her, etc. The moderator is a woman, which I think is also really good.”

“I think Joe Biden would do best if he basically ignores her and lets her dig her own grave. Biden is known for blabbering on and on. Plus I believe the format is not the same as last night. they are going to be direct questions with 2 or more minutes for answers with no interactions between the two. I am sure that Biden will refer to McCain's position which means Palin's position as well but I think he will be best served not addressing her directly. That's just my opinion.”

Rendell: Obama Coverage Was Embarrassing

“So let's add up the Clintonistas comments/actions from the last few days:
1. Rendell's above comments
2. Hillary still referring to BO on Thursday as her "opponent"
3. Bill Clinton praising McCain's energy plan
4. Carville and Begala running around Denver saying Hillary is the Rodney Dangerfield of the party.
5. Hillary's youngest brother having a "get together" dinner w/ Carly Fiorina a top McCain aide.
Maybe this is all coincidence, but it seems to me Hillary and her surrogates are signaling to her supporters that 'yeah, we're going through the motions because we have to, but we don't really support Obama so feel free to stay home or vote for McCain'.
Alas, Barack is tasked with not only beating John McCain and the Repug Smear machine, but he will also have to deal with the passive aggressives in his own party.”

Since Kaine is the governor of VA if Obama wins Dems won't lose the Senate seat, He's a conservative Dem who served in the Reagan Administration, which would lend to Obama's message of uniting the country.
