Shocked -- Or Not? New Data Shows Abortion Quite Common In Most Red States

“I live in a red state, even though President carried the state, but their motto is "do what I tell you, not as I do'. For years the well to do have taken their daughters and wives to hospital for a procedure called 'DNC', but complained that abortions should be illegals. Such hypocrites!!!
Now the GOP and Bluedogs have gotten the updated Hyde amendment against abortion in the house HCR bill along w help from the Catholic Bishops, it's time to talk about no govt funding for Viagra pills and take away the tax-exempt status from the churches. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.”

A Different Kind Of Tears For Obama

“I listened to all the complaints - Obama should do this, should do that, he didn't do this and should do that. What is the poor man to do. It's a good thing that he has his own mind. I voted for him and trust him to do the correct thing based on the information that he has, to include classified information. USA is a big country with 300 plus million people and every persuasion is wanting his blood.
This reminds me of Bill Clinton's time in office - everybody had an opinion on what he should do or not do. The GOP went after him from day one only because he was a democrat. But Clinton balanced the budget, raised taxes, cut welfare out, grew the economy, passed the corporate GOP sponsored NAFTA bill, then left a surplus. It took him 8 years to do this. Now we heard very little complaints for next 8 years while GOP Bush 43 started two wars and put the tab on credit card, cut taxes for the top 1% and put that on the credit card, oversaw the biggest economic meltdown since great depression. Nobody complained.
Now Obama, another democrat gets into office and everybody has a complaint. They have been complaining since January 21, 2009 because he hadn't created jobs, balanced the budget, and stopped the two wars. Americans in the US are unrealistic and living in tv show land. Give the president a chance.”

“Where was all this second guessing of our banking system, Wall St, our secretaries of Treasurer during the eight years of Republican governance. Please, please. All I hear and read is that Mr. Geithner wrecked the economy when he was NY Fed chair, that he is too close to Wall Street. For crying out loud Bush's treasurer guy Paulson was head of Goldman. Where is the heap on him.
Now everybody is an expert. Obama should do this, do that. Geithner should be fired, he caused the meltdown.
The Stock Market is back up, no credit to Obama and Geithner. People's 401-ks are growing again, but no thanks to Obama or Geithner. Now the jobs lost is Obama, Geithner fault, high unemployment is Obama, Geithner fault by paying too much attention to Wall Street.
But hey, everybody is following the republican talking points - it all started on January 20, 2009. blame it all on Obama/Geithner.”

How Sarah Palin Made Herself Indispensable While Destroying the Republican Party

“Max, I am reading your book and am amazed at the hidden hands of rich fundamentalist evangelicals behind the conservative political actions of the past 25 odd years. They have the tv & radio mouth pieces to broadcast their agenda, and the uncover money to finance their political candidates. You said in your book that the evangelical financiers want this country govern by biblical rules and regulations and have put most of the republican congressional lawmakers in office. Also, these conservatives operate out of 'C' Street.
Sara Palin is a spokesperson for this group of evangelical financiers. She said she can do more for her people operating outside of an elected office than holding an office. So we shall see how she does. She definitely will have the money behind her.”

“The repubs may win a few seats in 2010 but I don't think it is going to be the landslide that this poll and pundits are projecting. They were embarrassingly wrong about Obama winning in 2008. They all had to eat crow.
Corporate media is spinning the republicans making a come back in 2010 because Obama is not giving them what they want like the repubs have done and will do again. Yes, the insurance companies want the 47 mil new people with govern't subsidies but don't want the public option. They want it all. Oil companies don't want the climate change bill because they have a small role and they want to control it. The repubs will give them all they want just like the two wars and Medicare D. None of which was paid for.
If the corpaorate media reported 'fair and balanced' you would not see a republican anywhere near a microphone talking about the fixing the economy, cut spending and taxes after the disastrous state of affairs they left the country in.
Yes, Obama need a war room to curtail these ball face lies being spread about his administration. He is being too, too nice.”

“I think you need to let go of the "corporate media" thing. This liberal construction that media outlets are big corporations, and big corporations tend to be conservative, therefore the media are generally conservative, is completely bogus. The monolithic liberal views of the major media outlets, had gone virtually unchallenged until recent times. Their lock-stepped views produced virtual collusion, and profits rolled-in almost automatically. The new media has only now begun to cut into what was once a leftist monopoly. And I wouldn't wager anything of value that Katie Couric, Charles Gibson, or Brian Williams have ever cast a vote for a Republican.”

“One thing that is missing in this discussion is that FOX Noise is an extension to the RNC. President Obama said it as such and should be treated that way. JonStewart did an excellent piece showing how discussions on FOX opinion hours get reported up during FOX news hours as people are talking about or that the American are concerned about. So when it is reported as news then other media outlets report the items as news. It is an insidious move on FOX's part. They control what all of us are hearing on the airwaves, whether you tune in to FOX or not. This is what President Obama and JonStewart were alerting us about. The 'war on FOX News' is a macho term perpetuated by little men to make them look like victims of the system that they control.”

We females are smartever and cleverer than what we are showing the world, and definitely smarter than our counterpart. What we need to do is 'start acting like it', like presenting better arguments for our causes. Never have I heard pro-choice women argue the following points: 1) Pro-choice is liberty, freedom, getting the govern't out of our bodies. 2) Pro-choice is removing the back alley abortion death traps for women. 3) Pro-choice means having our children with the full protection of society in providing opportunities for good health care, child care, education for all our children. 4) Pro-choice means my child will grow up to have the same rights every other child has regardless of color, creed, etc.
The Pro-lifers have some serious drawbacks in that they want to protect the fetus but never protect the child that is born. Pro-lifers always vote against health care, child care, education - these issues are too expensive for them. Fight the pro-lifers with smarter, clearer arguments. Our arguments have been weak, weak.
We can't lose the HCR over the Stupac Amendment - that's stupid. Whatever is past today can be amended later.”

“Good article, Mr. Elisberg. I don't worry so much about the republicans as I do w our own democrats. They are sitting on the power of the majority and don't know how to use it. The House HCR bill this weekend showed conservative dems voting FOR the anti-choice amendment and then voting AGAINST the HCR bill. They voted primarily to take away a woman or woman-child choice of whether or not to have child, forces them against their will but do not pass health care to make sure the woman gets proper care during the pregnancy, and care afterward. The social conservatives whether dem or repub have serious brain drains.
This morning on c-span call-in show a conservative woman said she is not sure whether Bush43 did the right thing to bail out the banks but for sure Obama's giving money to the banks was definitely not a good thing. The wars are sapping all our money now and future, but HCR spending will kill future generations. The c-span guest did not respond to the illogical point made by the caller. “Paul, I agree with some of your points. Mainly, the candidates themselves are responsible for the votes. Blue Dog Deeds ran against the progressive agenda and lost to a conservative that ran a moderate agenda campaign. Corzine had image problems, and lost to a conservative running as a moderate. This tells me that right-wing ideology is not a winning strategy for republicans. Losing two gov races is not as important as picking up two more congressional seats that should have gone republican in NY and CA.
Talking heads pigeon hole President Obama at their own risk. He will get his agenda thru congress. I believe the Southern Blue Dog Dems are digging a hole for themselves. They are republicans in dems' clothing, the conservatives (tea baggers) are going to go after them since they've purged almost all of their moderates.”

“Cenk, I read most your articles and enjoy them. Most of us liberals and progressives put our stamp on Obama to be what we want him to be. Obama is a pragmatist. It would benefit all of us to become more familiar w that term. I listened to him on the campaign trail as well as the past nine months. He is doing what he said he would do w very few changes. He said he supports the public option and he will. He is right to let congress write the legislation and get it passed. That is the job of congress, not the executive branch which is to add or subtract when necessary. We need to support our president, after all it's only been nine months. He is birthing his baby now.
But I'm reminded of what I read or heard that Johnson or Kennedy said to Martin Luther King 'If you want me to pass civil rights legislation, then make me'. King made that happen thru marches, sit-ins, etc. The law got passed. I agree with you that we need to put fire under the democratic congress and the president to do right by the american people. Let's march on... when does the marching start?”

But it's an important point nonetheless. The trouble is that most on the left don't know what else they should be doing to "force" Obama to do what he claims to want. If he somehow feels the need for additional popular pressure -- and I think that while it's completely wrong that is indeed his operating assumption -- then he needs to specify what would do it. Does he want 70 votes in the Senate? (And if so, why?) Then tell us, and we can work toward getting them. But don't tell us it's our fault for not pushing hard enough, while simultaneously telling us not to push back against apologists when they point out all the obvious good that Obama has done on minor issues as if that were enough to justify inaction on the critical ones!”

“Thanks Jacob for some telling the truth. Many of the folks here have been watching too much Faux news. Opponents of the President have been judged him from November 2, 2008 even before he finished his victory speech. Before he could find out where the bathrooms were in the WH the opponents judged him a failure. He was judged week one, week two, etc., first 100 days, 2nd 100 days, 4 months, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, months. Today, they are declaring that he has been the president for a year, but actually it's only been 9 months and 14 days (from January 20, 2009). But who cares about the truth anyway, let's judge him. He is judged for doing too much, for doing too little, when is he going to make a decision on HC, Iraq, Afghan. Why can't he tell us what he's going to do about jobs, economy, Iran, taxes, Israel, Palestine, South American, etc. Oh, how dare he take his wife to NYC on a date. What has he done to get the Nobel Peace Prize, why only democrats get the prize, it's fixed I tell you and it's not worth the paper it's printed on. Why Reagan didn't get one.

Today many of these descendants live mostly in rural communities and towns across the country. They are part of the republican party, raising it's ugly head in the form of 'tea baggers''. The tea baggers are sponsored by corporations that want to kill Obama's agenda. What better crowd for the corporations to have out there shouting about anti-government after they caused the economic melting after being bailed out by the tax-payers (government) after knowing that they will get regulated again than these anti-government 10 per centers. Where were the 10 per centers doing the Bush years. They were home minding their own business. They didn't care that BushCo made two wars, over rode the constitution and lied to make war, further deregulated corporations so their cronies could steal us blind. “Chris, I like your column. I, too wondered about Obama Admin going after FOX. They should for the lies, misinformation, distortions, etc they tell daily about him and his policies. FOX is an extension of the RNC, even a blind man can see that. Many folks don't know the history of Roger Ailes that begot Lee Atwater that begot Karl Rove. All of them got their start in Nixon's WH where destructive politics were born, fed, and grew into what we have today - FOX News.”

“I agree. All the punditry class - both writers and talkers - say Obama is not tough enough. All they really want is for Obama to talk this macho, bully, cowboy crap like Bush/Cheney did.”

“What is USA interest in Afghanistan. Mr. Ahmed, you said we need ro protect US interest - what's that. Everyone talks about it, but no one is willing to come clean with the american tax payers on what that interest is. My guess is that it is those 'oil pipe' lines coming down from those xxxxstan countries surrounding the Caspian Sea.”
CNN's Dobbs: Creating a Hostile Image of Hispanics

“I stopped watching LouDobbs couple yrs ago when he started spewing out hate towards the hispanic community. If the issue is doing something about the illegals, then the folks to go after is business america that is hiring the illegals. It's always been one-sided - target the poor guy who is trying to make a living and who can't fight back. It's never the corporations that get blamed or point a finger at because they fight back.
CNN will never curb Dobb's hateful rhetoric - it's about the bottom line (money). A boycott of CNN sponsors will get CNN executives attention.
It's time to boycot - let's roll, folks...”

“Oh, please. Dobbs is "creating" a negative image of Hispanics? He clearly is talking about the 20 million illegals in this country. A large proportion of those are from Mexico and Central America; that's a fact, not "hate-mongering." A large number of Hispanic organizations support illegal immigration. If you want to identify with illegal immigration, you risk angering Americans who follow the law. Whether you choose to believe it or not, it's about ILLEGAL immigration. Dobbs goes after corporations all the time--do you even watch?”
Facebook's Obama Assassination Poll More Than a Sick Joke

“Early one morning last Nov after the election, I was looking at some of recaps of Obama's victory - I choked up almost cried and prayed that please God keep Obama safe.
