“It's hilarious the way Creationist bigots will contemptuously dismiss the fact that virtually every scientist in the world accepts the obvious truth of evolution by sneering about "arguments from authority" But when they are posting the opinions of rabid Creationists like Hugh Ross they are DESPERATE to accord him the 'authority' which his academic qualifications impart.”

Parker95 on Dec 21, 2012 at 09:00:52

“Your silly post is a repetition of some of the most foolish Creationist talking points. Including the old favourite a ludicrously stupid misunderstanding of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics which say only this. That in a closed system entropy cannot decrease. And it's not known as the Law of Entropy either although Creationist bigots like to call it that for some reason. Neither does it say that "things naturally fall apart" That again, is just a piece of idiocy which Creationist spout constantly.

"Assuming there are 1022 planets in the universe"

How is that in any way a reasonable assumption? It's actually comical that you thought that laboriously typing all those zeroes would somehow make your point stronger whereas it just makes you look even more foolish.”

ythri on Dec 21, 2012 at 08:53:09

“The second law of thermodynamics demands no such thing. Your understanding of entropy is based solely in an analogy; entropy is not a measure of disorder, that is merely a description used to give laymen some idea of what it represents. Entropy is actually a measure of a system’s thermal energy that is unavailable for doing useful work. It is a very specific thermodynamic property that people often generalize because they don't really understand thermodynamics. And aside from that, it only has to increase in a closed thermodynamic system, which the earth is not.

You probabilities are based on a bunch of utterly unknown parameters, and are therefore useless.”

Bulan924 on Dec 20, 2012 at 20:06:36

“Good grief (Thermodynamics)......You have no clue what you are talking about...Define Entropy? Define order? Define disorder? Define energy? Define system? Define Thermodynamics? Remember that Entropy is not disorder.....explain why? Get back to me if you can answer any of these...crickets are chirping.

I see that you must have flunked math too........probability LOL!!”

bbailey123 on Dec 20, 2012 at 18:44:54

“lordluvaduck why do you creationists keep misusing the second law. The earth is not a closed system. It receives energy all the time from the sun. And then you misuse probabilities as well. The probability that life will evolve on earth is 1. we're here so deal with it.”

“You do realize that Fank Turek has a non-scientific, theological "Ph.D." from a Seminary school. Essentially his "field" of Apologetics looks for any disconfirming evidence of a scientific claim and ignores any supporting evidence. What is used as disconfirming evidence may be taken from the bible, from philosophical or semantic argumentation, an individuals personal life, historical account, or even from scientific research. Using this latter resource, if there is one study out their that disconfirms a hypothesis derived from a scientifically supported theory, the claim will be that that theory is refuted (while the thousands of other studies supporting it will be ignored). This method is hardly reasonable. Far from factual. Moreover, this individual is hardly someone who knows proper scientific method.”

“Science by definition means that which is observable.
Anything that has not been observed or seen is no longer science but a philosophical argument to explain why something developed or occurred.
Such is the theory of evolution. It is a philosophical explanation not a scientific one because no one has ever seen a chimp turn into a human.
Same with the Grand Canyon. No one has observed how it can to be. It is all speculation and theory not science.”

Parker95 on Dec 21, 2012 at 09:11:45

“"no one has ever seen a chimp turn into a human."

Why do Creationists insist on making such fools of themselves by revealing that they understand nothing about evolution on such a frequent basis?”

ythri on Dec 21, 2012 at 08:45:35

“If anyone ever observed a chimp turning into a human, the theory of evolution would need to be completely revised or discarded. Nothing in evolutionary theory predicts such a thing. You might try learning something about evolution, rather than blindly accepting creationist talking points which are basically lies.”

Parker95 on Dec 21, 2012 at 08:16:32

“"Science by definition means that which is observable"

Wrong. Science is the process of enquiry into the natural world. Observation is a primary part of that process. But those observations would be meaningless if it were not for the application of other intellectual tools like inference. For example no one has ever seen an electron. But it's existence is not really in doubt because it can be inferred from other observations. So can evolution.
But it's always hilarious seeing Creationists loftily and contemptuously dismiss evolution as "unscientific" from their positions of total ignorance of science whilst virtually every scientist in the world accepts it's obvious truth.”

“By who's definition? Theory and speculation are pieces of the scientific method/process. In science, much can be extrapolated about the past and future from evidence left behind that is observable in the present. You just contradicted yourself into a pit, while demonstrating your utter lack of understanding about science. No, I am not a formally degreed scientist, which may support the idea that any average human being can understand things like the scientific method/process, if they only have the interest and desire to do so. But it does take a willingness to pull one's head out of the sand.”

MeatmanBobbyC on Dec 20, 2012 at 11:09:45

“Wrong and boring on all counts. No biologist would claim a chimp "turns into a human". They are close genetic cousins that cladistically diverged millions of years ago. At least get your non-facts straight. I do not wish to argue with you, just mock your ignorance.”

science teacher on Dec 20, 2012 at 10:42:32

“Actually, science is more about developing ideas (or hypothesizes) concerning what is verifiable AND repeatable.

These ideas are then incorporated into frameworks (theories) which provide general explanations for certain situations (phenomena).

For situations that cannot be directly observed, due to either physical or temporal restraints, indirect means can be used to develop observations (data) which can be then verified through trials (experimentation).

Observation is not limited to what is immediately visible to unaided human senses but can be enhanced through instrumentation and record-keeping (recorded observations).

Also evolution among shorter-lived species has been observed AND verified and provides needed insights for developing therapies to combat infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS.

I have seen your argument against evolution before and it is promoted by Ken Ham, Kent Hovind (among others) who have both been totally discredited by legitimate scientists.

You also might consider spending a little time with the National Standards for Science Education since it covers the ideas and methodologies used in scientific research.”
