Medical malpractice lawsuits are equally important to make doctors and hospitals, and all the other related health care business' consider the harm they do. The common people who scream "tort reform" never had someone die or lose an appendage because of some incompetent doctor or one who operated on drugs or alcohol. The Congress person who screams "tort reform" does so because he is paid by the medical industry to do so on their behalf even tho he pronised to look out for his constituents!

What people don't understand in this country is the word "negligenc­e." These awards would not take place if negligence had not been present. Not, "oops, I made a tiny mistake," but full blown negligence. Something that could have been prevented but wasn't!”
