Judah the Maccabee's Five Lessons for Barack Obama

Commented Dec 11, 2009 at 09:23:06 in World

“The modern state of Isreal was undeniably created by the Allies. Stolen at gun point for the peoples and goverments that already existed there. It is almost totaly dependant on my tax dollars to survive. and therefore, is more akin to a territory than a nation.”

ZenJu replied on Dec 11, 2009 at 15:09:26

“Bull. Get some decent history books. The rebirth of modern Israel dates back to the late 1800s and the Allies did not one to help the fledgling Jewish state defend itself, when five Arab nations set out to annihilate tiny Israel and failed. Israel is my country and it's not going to go away, whatever your dark wishes may be. Israel also repays its loans. Education is a useful thing.”

“Like I said, the truth should be taken seriously. The modern state of Israel was created only by the Jews of Palestine. When the British Mandate ended in May 1948, Palestine lapsed into what is called "administrative chaos" which means there was no "government" at all.

So how could you "steal" something from a "government" that didn't exist?

The United States, under Truman, and Stalin's USSR slapped an arms embargo on the Jews in 1948.”

Commented Dec 11, 2009 at 09:18:48 in World

“Interesting that the author does not recognize the post WWII created country of Isreal as an empire and the Palistanians as the rebels who seek their own national rededication.
So the news will continue to be filled with stories of violence and death in the Mid East for, probably 5000 more years.

Americans just need to realize that and get out or it. We are the mastadon, with two feet mired in the tar pit, we can proceed to our inevitable doom, or we can use what ever solid ground we still have two feet on to pull ourselves out before we are sucked under.”

tehixe replied on Dec 11, 2009 at 13:21:20

“That's a mighty tiny empire. But just for the record, the Macabbees fought a guerilla war, not a terrorist campaign. They defeated the Greeks by attacking military, not civilian targets. If the Palestinians would quit shooting rockets at preschools, it would be easier to see things from their point of view. As it is, both sides have blood on their hands, and saying otherwise shows profound hypocrisy.”

Bernanke Must Answer for Dark of Night Change in Bank Regs

“Whatever else Berneke is, he is, rightfully, the symbol of the causes of the crash of 2000-2004 and of 2008 through what ever decade this crash ends in.
As such. Congress simply cannot reappoint such a symbol. Mea culpas are an admission of failure and failure should not be rewarded, and reinstituted.

Hopefully the spineless Dims realize that putting Berneke back in the FED, and allowing the FED to do business as usual will cost them support, donations, and stay at home voters in 2010 and 2012.”

America Without a Middle Class

America Without a Middle Class

Commented Dec 03, 2009 at 08:29:13 in Business

“Ms Warren thanks for the article.

A recognition of these truths being voiced from inside the current Administration is a least heartening.

It remains to be seen what the spineless Dims and a Bush Lite Presidency will do to turn the equation around.

I don't think you have said anything that most middle aged Americans haven't come to realize over the last 50 years. Beginning at least as early as war induced inflation of the 1960's.

At a time when interest charges often pass 20% and mega-companies consider a 20 to 30% profit to be normal, the earnings on savings and the types of investments available to the middle class are paying up to 5%, far lower than the rise in the cost of living. Stock market and mutual fund investments have resulted in a virtual 100% loss of savings for most Americans.
This is obviously unsustainable on a nationwide basis. When the middle class pays 2009 interest on loans and earns 1960 interest on investments, and the stock market implodes like clock work, the destruction of the middle class is guaranteed.

So far as I am concerned, borrowing trillions from foreign governments and banks is a much greater threat to our national security than any rag tag band of foreign terrorists. Indeed the weakness that the debt displays its why rag tag terrorists are targeting us.”

Why Are Some Black Folks So Upset Over Gays Getting Married?

Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 09:12:27 in Politics

“Because belief in the Constitution is not a faith it is the law of this Country.

Why can't religious conservatives think on two levels?
One is personal faith applied personally with no legal restrictions.
The other is the rights and freedoms given by the Consitiution that is not personal but applies to all Americans.

What you are call liberal "faith" is not religous. Nobody is forcing religious conservatives to marry a homosexual, we're just saying stop taking that freedom away from Americans who's beliefs are differnt than yours.”

Why Are Some Black Folks So Upset Over Gays Getting Married?

Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 09:05:00 in Politics

“The problem is that some religious groups think that their religon gives itself the sole rights to determine what a "marriage" is and who has the right to marry, and then tries to claim that their belief should be the same as the civil law, like Europe in the Dark Ages and Afganistan under the Taliban.

But our Constitution doesn't allow that, and this should have become a non-issue decades ago, but for the spinlessness of politicians.”

“The greatest parallel between Vietnam and our wars in the Near East is that the people of Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan - all know who they are and have known who they are for millennia.
As nations, as cultures, as People they all have survived invasions and occupations by various of the world's greatest military powers, and they all know that they have survived intact and that they always will. As long as they live in the continuum of their heritage, their nations their Peoples will defeat any foe.

We cannot defeat that attitude, that history, that deep knowledge of national self identity. We only defeat and degrade ourselves by even trying.”

With Iran you may be somewhat correct, but the identity of people as Iraqis, Afghanis,Pakistanis,India, etc. is a recent one and one that is based upon Western influence in the region. They are all countries whose boundaries were drawn by the Europeans based upon what would serve the Europeans best, not the boundaries the native peoples would have given themselves.”

Hey, Handgun Fans: These Gun Victims Were Heavily Armed

Commented Dec 01, 2009 at 09:13:29 in Politics

“One of the most ridiculous examples to pack heat was the Luby’s Cafeteria shooting in Killeen, Texas about a decade ago.

Luby's all have at least at least 6 different areas.two eating rooms, and a private dining area, kitchen, etc

The shooter #1 drove his truck through the front window and started shooting.

The gun nuts say that if customers had had guns the deaths would have been less.

So shooter #1 is taken out by somebody, shooter #2. But many people don’t know quite what is going on and one of them gets up #3 and shoots #2. Others see #3 firing and #s4,5,6 take out #3 and each other since nobody really knows what the extent of the attack or how many attackers there actually are.

Armed police crash the front door because somebody had sense enough to dial 911 to report multiple shooters, and they start shooting and take down anyone who even remotely resembles a shooter.

The police don't know how may shooters there are or where they are and they leave victims bleeding and dying until they get the man power to secure the scene.

This would make the shoot out at the OK corral look tame. At least those guys knew who their targets were.”

Dimensio replied on Dec 01, 2009 at 19:33:06

“"This would make the shoot out at the OK corral look tame. At least those guys knew who their targets were."

The scenario that you have posited is actually a common hypothetical speculation presented by advocates of civilian disarmament. While there are many variants, all such hypothetical suggestions do share a common factor: none have yet manifested in reality in spite of a growing number of civilians licensed across multiple states to carry concealed deadly weapons.

Perhaps if your argument were based upon actual reality, rather than upon wholly unjustified speculation, it would be more credible.”

Berettasskeeter replied on Dec 01, 2009 at 09:26:07

“And of course, you have some specific examples where this has happened!? No? I'm surprised you would bring up a non-existent point.
The example of Luby's is an excellent one for the pro-gun side. This argument is made by the surviving daughter of a couple killed in that attack. She, then, carried a firearm, but Luby's had a no-firearms policy (I suppose the killer didn't know this!?). She left her firearm in her car to have lunch with her parents. She survived the attack, her parents did not. Noone shot back, which makes your use of this ridiculous! If the surviving daughter had shot back, there would have been no enlargement to the gunfight!

Hey, Handgun Fans: These Gun Victims Were Heavily Armed

Commented Dec 01, 2009 at 08:46:22 in Politics

“Thanks for the article.

I remember on of the first vigalantie shooings was at a bank hold up. The civilian shooter killed a bystander and wounded the robber.
The totally unnecessary killing of an innocent was considered becasuse the crimie of robbery was stopped.

Banks and other institution tell empolyess to not resist hand over the cash, becasue they want to avoid possible injury to empolyees of customers. Police say the same thing. Banks and other business are insured or should be.

There was no justification for putting anyone's life at risk, even the bank robbers, but the gun nuts thougt it was OK to murder someone to stop a nonviolent crime.”

Dimensio replied on Dec 01, 2009 at 13:40:49

“"There was no justification for putting anyone's life at risk, even the bank robbers, but the gun nuts thougt it was OK to murder someone to stop a nonviolent crime."

The basic rules for employing lethal force are that someone's life or limb must be in jeapardy. The pro-gun side does not advocate using lethal force to stop property crimes.

BTW, bank robbery, even if no shots are fired, is a violent crime.

And for the record, armed civilians in defensive shootings have a better record that police at hitting their target and not hitting bystanders.

P.S. I'm a cop. I fully support concealed carry permits for civilians.”

mike102 replied on Dec 01, 2009 at 09:17:40

“Since when is a bank holdup a 'nonviolent' crime? They call it 'armed robbery' for a reason, and I'm pretty sure it's still a capital offense in a few states.

Of the 80,000 defensive situations (FBI) where guns are used every year, how many bystanders do you think are killed? Not many, I'll wager, since in only 6-8% of those incidents is it even necessary to fire the gun.

"There was no justification for putting anyone's life at risk, even the bank robbers"

No justification in putting the bank robber's life at risk? You should move to the UK. There is legislation pending before Parliament, that is designed to protect the supposed right of home-invaders not to be physically harmed by their intended victims. Ridiculous.

"I remember on of the first vigalantie shooings was at a bank hold up. The civilian shooter killed a bystander and wounded the robber.

That's pretty vague. Got a link?”

That couple's names were on a list of persons to be allowed, and somebody either faked their being given access or forged the whole vetting, invitation process.

And what about the cameras? How did they get in? Does every guest normally bring their PR Crew?”

And the bottom line is it didn't either win or end our invasion and occupation in Iraq.
