Bryant Gumbel Cancer: Announces Cancer Surgery On "Regis" (VIDEO)
Commented Dec 08, 2009 at 22:33:06 in Media
“I am so sorry to hear the news about Bryant Gumbel's cancer, and I wish him and his family all the best. I have always been a big fan of Bryant Gumbel. I have missed his presence and talents on the Today show. I find him to be an excellent interviewer, and I also enjoy his wit. I plan to keep Bryant in my thoughts and prayers.
I had lung cancer surgery to remove a tumor and part of a lung in 2000. Like Bryant, I discovered the cancer through an x-ray in a checkup. I was not feeling ill, and I had quit smoking ten years earlier. I required follow-up chemo, but the upshot is, here I am, fine, almost ten years later.
Bryant was correct when he noted this morning that cancer treatments have improved. I know he will get great treatment, as I did, and I hope some of my good luck rubs off on him too.”

Huge Thanks to her, no way to express my gratitude to her fully in words really...I am sure that I speak for everyone who loves America.
She undoubtedly saved many lives by stopping this madman yesterday. I am very thankful that she herself survived this atrocity.”

I am surprised that EFisher has not responded on this story.
I doubt that if it is helpful to her business with any "demograph ic."
Rosie, You had me checking them out at one point and I liked the line too, but the pricing of the EF clothes always was a little too high for many of us. Hah!”

“I think that it is a absolute shame that this convicted terrorist has been released. The families of the victims have every right to be outraged. People serve more time in NY for minor drug offenses.
So far, the White House response has been tepid. Is their statement of "regret" the best they can do? That is a weak statement out of D.C.
I realize Scotland is another country, but c'mon?? Many Americans died. It is just plain wrong in any language to let this mass murderer walk.”

“You're entitled to your opinion, as are the families of the vi.ctims, but what do you all expect the President to do? We're not starting a w.ar over this issue. It's a matter for the Scottish courts and they handled it as they saw fit. Our opinions and wishes are based on emotions and not Scottish law, and therefore are irrelevant.”

I don't think this guy should be let loose but it's isn't Canada's call ( there were a couple of Canadians killed by they way...not to mention the damage and deaths in Lockerbee itself)
and it isn't America's call and sometimes that's the way it is.....and strident language from the White House won't change a thing.”

“I think it's a triumph of Scottish law over emotions. Laws are made when emotions are running cool to be implemented when they're running hot. What they've learned over the centuries that we haven't is that law is not something to be conveniently ignored when it runs against the public sentiment.”

“CNBC is more and more the voice of Wall Street and Big Business with seemingly little or no awareness of Main Street, or how people on Main Street are being squeezed and what we are thinking and saying out here in the real world.
We are looking for simple fairness out here, CNBC guys, not more of those yachts forever docked in Miami & Ft Lauderdale with GeorgeTown, Virgin Islands, painted on them as their home port.
And, another pet peeve, puhleeze (!) no more nonsense from CNBC in support of "talent retention" bonuses at Citi, AIG etc. after the taxpayer has had to pay out literally BILLIONS of dollars to keep companies afloat. We can find this kind of talent on any street corner in Atlantic City.
I know, I know, your own department in such and such bank made money the old -fashioned way etc., but that is not the point. The management of these companies allowed crazy business practices in some product areas, the financial stability of the companies blew up, and they are now basically on government life support. It is far from business as usual now.
We just want fairness in corporate and individual taxes and executive and employee compensation.”

If a taxpayer does her/his best to avoid taxes, are they not being patriotic in some form? Tax codes are being used to manipulate our behavior all the time. A perfect example is the new First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit. I was incentivized to purchase a home by being able to avoid $7,500 of taxes. Is this behaviour unpatriotic?
What about when I donate a few extra dollars each year to charity in order to lower my tax rate?
Food for thought atleast.”

Bailed-Out Banks Face Probe Over Fee Hikes
Commented Apr 12, 2009 at 23:58:01 in Home
“I understand that many of these late fees and card interest rates fees have been hiked. Another issue is that interest rates for savers are at lows.
You could get a 4% cd in the fall of 2008 for a year cd. No more. Lucky if you can get a little over 2% for a 1 year cd. Money markets are also in the 2% range now, many are less than 2%. Pretty darn low rates for savers, and many of us want to save because of the uncertainties created by the financial crisis.
The bank gets to keep the Tarp, the rising late fees, the revised interest rates on credit cards, revised for any number of reasons, and the additional interest, now lost, that the customer used to get.
It does not sound like a good deal for the consumer/customer in any way.”

“You're right. These banks gambled on the housing market, lost, and now it's our job to pay off their gambling debts.
First they come begging for a give way from the taxpayers
Then they start gouging their customers with hiked fee
Then they start paying a pittance on interest bearing accounts.
If these were my relatives, I'd disown them.
Crooks.”
