“Is this column actually supposed to be considered amusing?
Give me a break.
What kind of water is Ms. Perry drinking anyway?
I am not in the least bit interested in this kind of stereotypical stuff, and I am somewhat surprised to see this on HuffPo.”

President Obama's First Big Move: Making People Care

“Hi Jermaine,
Thanks for your heartfelt blog. I saw and felt something a little like this when I was 13 and John Kennedy was elected. Throughout the sixties, even after his assassination, the young were involved and into political issues, especially civil rights and the Vietnam War. After Bobby, Martin, and Vietnam, things changed. Over time, many people became apathetic and felt they had no stake or place in the political process anymore.
Barack Obama changed that for us, even those like myself who are white and only young at heart. He will indeed change the way future presidents are seen and future campaigns conducted.
It is wonderful to see young people and such a wonderful cross -section of people involved and caring again.”

This is a very interesting column Nathan. Thanks.

Barack Obama is Elected President -- Now What?

“Fellow readers should know that Cory Booker, much like Barack Obama, has worked from the ground up to make his own very impressive mark on his own city, Newark, New Jersey.
As a fellow resident of New Jersey, it has been great for me to see Booker assume leadership and initiate so many positive changes in Newark. One example is the legal program he writes about in this article. The challenges facing urban America are enormous, but Booker has taken them on, and his city has certainly made progress.
Again a bit like Barack Obama, Cory Booker has very special communication skills and unique gifts, a true talent for leadership, and he has had a first-rate education.
As a senior citizen, I am heartened to see these "young" politicians moving into our power structure. My hope is that their success and commitment to change and hard work will inspire many, many more young people to opt for public service as a career. Perhaps our young people can begin to move away from a culture that has been so very focused on material gain and consumerism. Maybe we can begin to see a greater concern for others and for the common good.”

“Hi Arianna,
Re: Joe The Plumber
So long for awhile Joe the Plumber!
Toledo Ohio, from which Joe the Plumber hails, and several of its surrounding counties, went heavily for Obama, Lucas County, where Toledo itself is, went better than 64% for Obama.
The same is true of Lackawanna County, home of Scranton, PA. This county went better than 60% for Obama.
Check it out. I am confused and as to why we kept hearing of these old blue collar bastions as being possibly negative territories for Obama. I am pleasantly surprised by the outcome. There may have been some Joe the Plumbers out there, but apparently they have many, MANY neighbors who see things differently!”

“Hi Mayhill,
Reading your blogs has been one of the great pleasures of the campaign.
Has anybody ever told you that you can maybe write a little Ms. Fowler? Hah!
Seriously, your incredibly sharp eyes and ears took me to places and views that I doubt I would have seen through the eyes of the MSM. You found so many "stories" for me, small ones and not so small, but all authentic and brought so very alive by your great gift with language and skill as a story teller.
Thanks so much. I agree that you will probably never match the experience, but then again, who knows?
You have a singular talent and voice Mayhill.
I bet this has been quite a ride for you, and I can't wait to hear more from you..”

“Very powerful images in this piece. I really love the picture of the old woman walking toward this prize.
Sam Cooke's version of "A Change is Gonna Come" is amazing, but Aretha's version will also give you Big Chills.
I hope that we can pull out all of the wonderful old music and the spirit behind it over the next few days.
This blog is such a beautiful statement of a moment in time, in our shared history, Pamela....we do owe our thanks to all of the voters in Florida and everywhere for caring so much to wait in these lines so long. There must be a better way to handle voting next time; the long lines, especially for elderly people, are crazy.”

Pa. Gov. Rendell Holds Press Conference To Fight McCain-Palin Smears

“It's about time somebody explained current corporate tax policy, and "socialism," and the graduated income tax, in such a clear way. Big Thanks to Governor Rendell & Mayor Nutter!.
I saw "Joe the Plumber" say that he did not want social security forced on him. Fine for him, whatever, he does not have to file for it when the time comes. But, hey, many retirees, such as myself, do NOT share Joe's extremist views. We count on social security and medicare. My point is that McCain's hero Joe is hardly somebody to look for advice or commentary on any social policy. Joe himself is a real extremist.
The mayor and governor have clarified Obama's centrist and sensible positions and the historical context. Even McCain, who should be 100% ashamed of himself for letting his campaign push out this nonsense, has admitted on Larry King that Obama is NOT a socialist.
BTW, What happened to the John McCain of 2000, has anybody seen that decent, fair, compassionate, and always down-to-earth guy lately? Who the heck is this new version of McCain anyway? Not the same guy, that's for sure.”

“Bill Clinton's remarks in Florida about all of the lost jobs in Florida were excellent & very helpful. I am glad to hear that they have been widely circulated in Fl.
HuffPo should post the video of Bill speaking with this article.
When I visited Florida in April, the economy seemed stagnant, and I believe it is and will continue to be one of the states hardest hit by the housing disaster. Change is certainly needed there.”

Hillary Clinton Rallies Senior Citizens And Union Members For Obama In Pittsburgh
Commented Oct 25, 2008 at 20:58:56 in Home
“My opinion of Hillary Clinton goes up and up and up as each day passes. She is a truly class act, with outstanding political and communication skills and true conviction.
Maybe it took the presence of Ms Palin, obviously a capable lady but so very woefully under-prepared for the VP spot, to wake me up and make me really recognize Hillary's talent, experience, and capabilities.
I hope Barack Obama is elected and finds an appropriate position (maybe Health-Care related) for Hillary in his administration.
Kudos to Hillary. Rock On Ms Clinton!
We do so need your voice, brains, and skills in these difficult times.”

I Owe My Interest in American Politics to Sarah Palin

“Hey Jason,
Great column. I am a 62 year old retiree (white, female in NJ), and I too have been very energized by this election. Yes, do vote anyway as one poster suggested.....make your point.
I may have skipped some elections in my life, but Jason, NOT THIS TIME!
No way, no how, no McCain, and definitely no Palin.
I had been making smallish contributions to Obama since February via the internet but the arrival of Sarah Palin has made me kick up the pace of my contributions. My friends feel the same way; you should know that many women, including some of us older women often described in the press as part of a monolithic "older" voting block, were somewhat insulted and offended by the Palin nomination.
Hey, get yourself a t-shirt and a yard sign too. Take care Jason, thanks again for the column. Go Barack!

Protesting Palin Down the Road in Swing State Colorado

“Yes, Dawn Russell's story about Joe Biden greeting the disabled one-by-one in Delaware and then remembering the group in Denver the next year is really very, very touching.
Mayhill, Joe Biden is in some ways the forgotten candidate, but Dawn's story about Biden and ADAPT is indeed a beautiful tribute. It speaks loudly about the quality of this man. It also speaks to Obama's superior judgment in choosing him for VP.
Dawn, just as Biden remembered your ADAPT group in Denver, I know in my heart that the poor will also not be forgotten in an Obama/Biden administration.
Thanks to Dawn Russell and the ladies of ADAPT and the Colorado Women against Palin. Keep up the great work! Thanks to Mayhill for blowing this story up and letting me in NJ about Dawn's cause. This is the beauty of blogs. Biden campaign representatives will now surely have the opportunity to hear about Medicaid and S 799 and HR 1621.”
