Fast-Food Workers In 100 Cities To Walk Off The Job

Fast-Food Workers In 100 Cities To Walk Off The Job

Commented Dec 2, 2013 at 17:29:07 in Business

“The people walking the picket lines will be paid $50.00. You don't have to be a fast food employee. I don't know what a hamburger costs in fast food places, but if it's $4.00 and they raise it to $4.50, the stockholders will be first in line to grab the extra .50, and if the unions get in, they will take the .50 and the employees still end up with nothing. Look at it as an entry level job and then get out!”

“It's true that it is going down, but one reason they don't mention is the huge increase in the number of prisons that have been built over the years to keep them locked up. New York alone in the last 25 years built 30 new prisons. They had a total of 70, but recenty closed 4 or 5 because they eased up on the drug laws. California recently released about 50,000 violent criminals due to costs. (they count as crime going down also) The diggest drop in crime though is because they are locked up and can't commit any, not that they have finally seen the light.”

Alva Goldbook on Nov 21, 2013 at 01:37:15

“That certainly contributes to it, but as you mentioned, around 50% of our prison population are in jail on nothing more than drug charges. There are other contributing factors. We have an aging population who are less likely to commit crimes. We have taken lead out of the environment. We allow unwanted pregnancies to be terminated. All of these factors have reduced crime rates.”

“Ole-Boy: I agree with most of what you say, corporations should not get anymore welfare from taxpayers and the food stamp program should be looked at a little closer. There is an awful lot of fraud that goes on in this country and it seems like everyone turns their head and looks the other way. Just saw and article how Mexicans are getting over 4 billion in tax refunds for "dependents" living in Mexico. They even list them on their tax returns as neices and nephews! Average return is about $10,000.! Check out this WEB site for an eye opener! http://www.alipac.us/f19/new-welfare-map-284121/

“My guess is you collected welfare at least 20 years ago or longer. Things have changed quite a bit over the last five or six years. Just one example, if your daughter was on welfare and had a child, you could watch that child and get paid by the gov. (like day care) while your daughter goes to school or "looks" for a job. Think about it, I know one girl that has six kids and the grandmother watches all six while she "looks" for work. Grandma is raking in close to $140,000. a year - tax free! Your tax dollars at work!”

“There are a lot of $7.50 an hour jobs out there, but I talked to a roofing company and he can't get enough people at $18.75 an hour (40+hours) because it's hard work often in hot weather. This is very common today. I have a son that's too lazy to work because the gov. feeds his girlfriends baby and gives them welfare and rent and they are happy just getting by. Both like to sleep until noon. And by the way, he doesn't know if he is a lazy republican or a lazy democrat or could care less as long as the check keeps coming!”

But, on the other hand, I also believe social programs are used to buy votes too, so maybe the gov. may not be so eager to really help. Not sure, but you have a good day. Semper Fi”

I might have to lower my standards and take a job at Home Depot or with a roofing company or landscape company, or learn a trade being a helper with a carpenter or bricklayer. These are a few jobs I saw posted over the summer. I was trying to hire a couple of girls to answer a phone at $15.00 an hour and I have to talk to a least five before I can get one that really wants a job, most want me to sign a paper saying they came in looking for a job even though they don't want it. “If you work and get laid off from time to time, I believe everyone deserves to collect un-employment or if you get hurt, no problem with disability, but if you plan on making a career out of gov. handouts with no intentions of ever working, that's where I have a problem. Handouts or gov. dependency is the easiest way to secure votes for the long haul. Watch how the democrats and republicans wrangle over the illegals (or what ever they are refering to them now) in the near future, they are both fighting over votes and nothing else. One party will offer them citizenship and another will offer them - something, I don't know what yet, but it will be good. Democrats are big on entitlements, but not for people that worked like social security, more like welfare, food stamps, etc.”

Ole-boy on Nov 12, 2013 at 17:44:20

“I 'm following you Master Sgt.  Just try not to lump all democrats as lazy.  Some people are just as you say; lazy.  This phenomenon is not just limited to the Democratic party. I'm for assisting people genuinely in need and not subsidizing corporations so their CEO's can make millions.  Instead of eliminating assistance programs, our representatives should re-work and enforce the qualifying rules.
Why is is that just this week the Republican party demanded food stamps be cut which will effect thousands of veterans well being? The fetus that was once important can just go hungry. Sure there is fraud, so fix the fraud issue without letting humans go hungry.
Plus, this party wants to cut my earned entitlements, Social Security & medicare, that I've paid into all my working life. The greedy corporations get tax breaks and subsidized, or no tax liability at all. They outsource jobs, break laws and not held accountable and the CEO's get huge bonuses but yet they want to devalue my social security promise that I considered while making retirement plans.
I say start with all the benefits Congress receives.  What a jackpot that is!  The position can take average people and make them millionaires serving the government they despise.”

We probably wouldn't have LBJ's "Great Society" where the democrats started buying votes by taking over the roll of the black father and destroying that family structure. I believe they had to do that after fighting against the civil rights act (remember Sen. Byrd did the longest filibuster in history against civil rights) in order to get the black vote back. The erosin of the country today is because we are creating a generation of lazy people waiting for their handout from the gov. Semper Fi”

“I spent a lot of years working with the "poor" and got to know them real well, they often looked at me as one of them and would confide things with me like where to buy drugs where to get the best price when selling your food stamps for cash along with many other scams that would fill a page here. The poor aren't as poor as they let you believe and are quite slick at working the system. Some of the poor are bringing in well over $100,000. a year (tax free)! I agree, not all and there are a few in need and I will be the first to step up and help those few.”

Willow712 on Nov 9, 2013 at 21:58:49

“I was on welfare and food stamps for five years in the Southern Tier of New York State. The state wanted me to not work, because I had a severely mentally ill husband at the time, and it was cheaper to have me to care for him instead of having the state pay for his care. So for five years, I was on FS and welfare. Its not so fun. I didn't ever know anyone that actually lived decently or sold food stamps to buy drugs. Nobody had money for drugs. Cigarettes (I've quit since) were 5.00 a carton then, and we saved all our butts, because two weeks later, we'd run out of money so we'd smoke the old butts for two weeks. How's that for desperate? LOL. I never met anyone using food stamps while driving a cadillac. I never knew anyone with any extra money at all.”

“There is no doubt that JFK in todays world would be a conservative. The democratic party has drifted so far left of JFK's thoughts and ideas that he would no longer fit in. The one sentence alone; "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country", doesn't fit the "gimme" attitude of todays democrats with hand outs for all that are too lazy to go to work. (and don't tell me there are no jobs. There are signs posted in almost every business I walk into.)”

“I think you have it wrong. DDE was so centrist that a lot of people say, "I am a Democrat or an Eisenhower Republican." Dole himself in his speeches says, "I voted for WIC, Meals on wheels, and medicare." Even the Republicans in the 60s knew that we need a safety net that is strong. People now are saying that the takers are saying "gimme gimme" all the time, have you seen how little they get? Its really a shame how little food stamps buys, and how little these programs help people in poverty. Poverty will always be with us. The best we can do is help them live through it.”

dewey00 on Nov 8, 2013 at 16:04:00

“I kind of disagree. If both JFK and RFK had lived to serve out their lives and political careers, this country would be much, much different. Their early deaths have deprived the US of achieving the greatness it could have obtained and maintained. Sadly, I see the erosion and decline of America as a super power/world leader coming to fruition in the no-so-distant future.”

“The "gimme" attitude includes the young kids today who think they're "entitled" because they've had everything handed to them. It's the "what have you done for me lately?" crowd.”

“Dems were very powerful since FDRs time and very gimme. Southern Dems ran the country for a long time in Congress. His gimmicky saying didn't translate well. The 60s had the biggest upheaval of young people, who thought they were doing something for the country. NOT.

One thing that you have to consider about jobs at every business you walk into. Usually a bit above min wage and in SoCal, that's rough. Child care is iffy and expensive (working moms, whether married or not). Relief programs often take away help if you better yourself. One thing about so many poor people is that their parents and the rest of their family is poor as well. No real help. I'm not justifying people not working. I do know some ladies on welfare who were finally forced to go to work when their kids grew up and welfare ran out. One became a very successful real estate agent. Amazing that she suppressed her talents. Now with businesses cutting back to part time workers (economy, taxes and the ACA), it will be harder than ever.”

There are signs posted in almost every business I walk into.)' is a cruel misleading statement . Just because there is a sign does not mean there is a job. And $ 7.50 an hour for 10 hours a week is hardly going to help anyone but a 16 year old kid looking for Friday night change to play with. I tried to get those jobs and they are not real jobs.
