Why I'm Not Joining the Call to "Kill the Bill"

Commented Dec 26, 2009 at 08:53:38 in Politics

“Mr. Potter, I deeply appreciate your past work on this issue.

But "Eddie" is not going to benefit from the passage of this obscene Senate bill. If, by chance, he does, it will be for only a few months or a year, until the premiums -- unfettered by competition from a public opton -- rise so high he can't afford them, and the co-pays put coverage out of reach as well.

It is a cruel hoax to pretend that this give-away to insurance and drug companies will help "real" Americans, either any time soon or for any time at all.

It will be more of consumers looking in the windows at the insurance company equivalents of Cartier & Bloomingdale's, but never being invited inside to shop. Or, once inside, having no money.”

Good analogy!

All that from a puppy.”

“Are there ANY Democrats or people with brains in AZ

How can they elect people like Kyle and consider folks like Hayworth?”

ross1776 replied on Dec 25, 2009 at 00:58:24

“Actually, there are no candidates the caliber of a Barry Goldwater anymore in Arizona, the true Conservative that believed in limited government, and non-agressive wars and fiscal responsibility.

It's all the wacko Californians, Easterners and Canadians that now live in that state that have brought it down, and the liberal Democrats that want their jacuzzi's and fountains just like they had in Californication. Like those that died in that recent incident - the New Agers - that were mimmicking an Indian purification ceremony, and sweat to death (the Indians are smarter, and know to take breaks during those ceremonies - many of them).

It's the Democrats and Neocon globalists that have brought that state down - and a Sheriff also that is more interested in his ratings and publicity quotient than actually doing the job of all those former Sheriffs before him that kept the metro areas, especially, protected - since formerly when an illegal was picked up for any lawful stop or reason - they were simply turned over to the U.S. Marshall's office and returned by bus with a call for a pickup at the border. They soon got tired of it . And it is easy to legalize in Arizona to begin with - all they need is a family member living there in order to get approved, so all that nonsense about it being harder for Mexicans is just that, nonsense, since so many have relatives that are legal residents living in this country.”

Commented Dec 10, 2009 at 18:17:10 in Politics

“***but this guy doesn't seem to even TRY! ***

pacason, this is my gripe as well. When all the Obamabots whine, "well, you can't expect him to turn things around immediately," I try to explain: it's not the lack of "immediate results" that turns me off. It's the fact that he doesn't fight, doesn't articulate, doesnt TRY.

He and Rahm are so busy meeting behind closed doors with the drug mfgs and insurance companies that neither has time to find out what's going on in "real America." Oh, and then there are his countless trips abroad, while our country disintegrates.

Stay home. Make an effort. Do something. Say something.

I too donated, walked door to door, bugged my friends to get involved. The depth of my disappointment is a reflection of the energy and excitement I felt before the election.

The folks who write these e-mails must be Very Stupid to think this kind of approach is going to work.”

“***I delete these emails without reading them now***

Up until now I've always deleted them too, unless I wanted to amuse myself by trying to get a "reply" through their Chinese wall.

I'm now proposing that we all take an additional minute and "unsubscribe." I'm hoping that some enterprising media hound will do a story on the number of "unsubscribes" generated by this latest Obama disaster.

The DNC, DSCC, DCCC, OFA and Obama probably don't tally nasty responses, and they certainly can't tell that you've deleted their message rather than reading it, but they CAN count the number of people who "unsubscribe."

Just a thought/suggestion.”

The true "insult" is Obama's screwing of the American public; his promises that he never intended to keep; his rhetoric unsubstantiated with action.

And today, in particularly, it's "insulting" to have this warmonger president picking up the Nobel Peace Prize.”

“***"Wow! All I could think of was, "Why don't we have these?""***

a) because we're spending all our money on the Iraq/Afghanistan ratholes;
b) because we bailed out bankers & hedge funds to the tune of $700 BILLION; [that would buy a LOTof high speed trains]
c) because neither Congress nor Obama has the cojones to raise taxes on rich guys and speculators to fund high speed trains and other needed infrastructure; and
d) because we all need to support the proposal by David Obey [D-WI] of a "war surtax," particularly on the rich, to fund this immoral folly in Afghanistran”

Obama, Democrats Face Liberal Fundraising Boycott

Commented Nov 12, 2009 at 18:28:57 in Politics

“***", the atavastic question is how to support the president and push for bolder reform."***

If the President were pushing for "bolder reform," many of us could support him. Unfortunately, he's not, and in fact is pushing AGAINST any sort of meaningful reform.

Most of us prefer "reform" to "personality cult." If "supporting the president" falls by the wayside -- because of his cowardly performance and serial sell-outs to the insurance companies and Big PhARMA -- so be it.

Mr. Melber, get your facts straight.”

PATina replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 21:45:54

“EXACTLY. I was never big on the public option... but I thought it was something... until President Obama said it was just a sliver of reform. Why try to drum up support for something that was just a "sliver"?”

toosinbeymen replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 21:34:53

“Exactly right, Mauimom.

I supported, contributed to, campaigned for, phone banked for, etc Obama as a candidate. Now he's a horrible disappointment. Do you really expect me to contribute my time or money again? h no!

Obama sank the good ship Democrat by his multiple broken campaign promises and lack of support for meaningful healthcare reform or financial reform. He's a total bust.”

Has Obama's Handling of the Bank Bailout Undermined Health Care Reform?

Commented Sep 01, 2009 at 23:57:12 in Politics

“Thank you, Arianna, for your succinct summary of the dismal situation.

In conclusion you state:

***There is still a chance to save health care. But only if Obama takes control of the debate. Maybe spending the last few days surrounded by the impassioned spirit of Ted Kennedy will prod the president to push the reset button.***

The thing that makes me the most depressed is that lack of ANY sign that Obama will "take control of the debate" -- or even realize that that's what's necessary.

I was a strong, strong supporter, and now my disappointment is of equal intensity.”

The Death of Ted Kennedy: HuffPost Bloggers React

Commented Aug 26, 2009 at 15:10:59 in Politics

“I’d like to suggest that one way to honor Kennedy is to go over to the FireDogLake blog and donate to their funds specifically set up to promote health CARE reform: the ActBlue page listing those who won't vote for a bill unless it contains a public option, or the FDL “Health Care Initiative" [I don’t know its “real” name — or it it has one] that supports their work in researching the various proposals, lobbyists' activities, and players in the drama.

I think Sen. Kennedy would appreciate such moves.”
