“I too, spend my days around very decent, giving, wonderful people who are conservative and Republican. They ARE decent, giving, etc., until it comes to political views. Then they act and think like 3 year olds.
I've had highly educated conservatives whom I consider close close friends and intelligent, decent people tell me that Obama is leading us to a One Wold Government, that Obama is a socialist, or a Nazi.
It's like cognitive dissonance. I often wonder what the heck is going on in their brains - except they all seem to be emotional when it comes to issues.
I had a conservative friend who would give the shirt off his back to anyone individually, regardless of race or religion, who said about the Iraqis in 2004, "Don't those sand-nxggxers know we are trying to give them freedom?"
I mean, really.
So, while it might be wrong to lump ALL Republicans together, what I want to know is why upwards of 90% of them vote for mean spirited politicians and propositions?
You should ask your fellow members why they believe irrational lies, and why they continue to support morons and criminals.
You might find out they aren't so wonderful after all.....”

“Frankly, they can all wear black shoes, white sweat socks, plaid shorts and cheap polo shirts as long as they lead and govern in an enlightened way. Isn't that the point?
As charismatic as the Obamas are (and that is important), their duties are to lead and govern. Same goes for the Medvedevs.
At this point in the game, "fashion" is pretty irrelevant. Do not confuse fashion with aesthetics or design, both of which are far more important to the public benefit than silly clothing choices.
Besides, we have other arbiters of style to lead us in that area.
The world has changed. If our leaders can be more relaxed, more...rea l; perhaps we'll be able to have a better, more relaxed world.

“And the purpose of your pointless attempt at an uninformed ad hominem would be...? For what it's worth, I have never deceived a romantic partner.
Regardless, the commonality of a flaw doesn't change the fact that it is a flaw. Padding a bra and covering up a murder are both forms of deception, but they're not equivalent. Cursing someone out on the road and vindictively smashing an ex's car are both signs of intemperance, but they're not the same.
Are you trying to tell me that you don't care if a politician is "untrustworthy" and "deceitful"? Please.”

Men also wonder about living, and break ups and slightly more than just T&A. All those one-dimensional "lad rags" like Maxim or even Men's Health just don't cut it. Not Esquire. Not the sports section. Not frickin' Ashton Kutcher or Brad Pitt. Or Popular Mechanics, although that's a good one. :-)”

“Mari X, I suspect we are both hurting... I agree with your comment, which actually doesn't really address mine, except for your reaction to my use of the "both ways" phrase.
I wasn't really referring to sex. Really, playing the field is mostly a drag, unless you can stay emotionally detached.
I won't go into detail to that, it would be a long post. Suffice it to say I'm hurtin' and a bit crabby in the morning.
I don't think it is in most women's nature to want to play the field. I think most women are naturally one-man women. That's how it works and it's fine with me.
So, if my admittedly curmudgeonly post was interpreted as unsympathetic or sexist, please understand that's not what I meant by a long shot.
Unfortunately in the realm of money and property it works both ways, I've both female and male friends who suffered financially at the hands of the other. I'd say it's actually better if both parties can bring some money to the table. If you are referring to the old-fashioned husband/money, wife/home paradigm then the best thing is to make sure you've got some sort of good settlement agreement ahead of time, no matter how much in love you are at the time. Or make it during your marriage. Gives everybody incentive to stay home.”

Really. Men are just as devastated, if not more, by divorce. Plus, we get no slack when it comes to recovery. Just man up and work on your car.”

“McJeff, Just a reminder: Men have ALWAYS had it both ways, as you so discretely put it.
Believe it or not, some of us dumped ladies never wanted anything else but marriage, kids, homes and communities to serve. Our men changed their minds about what THEY really wanted and walked out without looking back. It does still happen that way with alarming frequency these days.
Unless a woman goes into marriage with a solid career, plenty of money in a personal trust fund and her own property- owned outright with no mortgage payments- she is vulnerable to the same situation I and so many other ladies I know end up in. As well, we are now expected to act like indiscriminate men and "play the field" when we are truly "one-man women" in our hearts.
I despise the artificial stereotypes of "Sex and the City". I'd personally prefer love, respect and fidelity -shared with one good man- over a closet full of shoes and nights out with the "girls" any day.”
