“I too, spend my days around very decent, giving, wonderful people who are conservative and Republican. They ARE decent, giving, etc., until it comes to political views. Then they act and think like 3 year olds.
I've had highly educated conservatives whom I consider close close friends and intelligent, decent people tell me that Obama is leading us to a One Wold Government, that Obama is a socialist, or a Nazi.
It's like cognitive dissonance. I often wonder what the heck is going on in their brains - except they all seem to be emotional when it comes to issues.
I had a conservative friend who would give the shirt off his back to anyone individually, regardless of race or religion, who said about the Iraqis in 2004, "Don't those sand-nxggxers know we are trying to give them freedom?"
I mean, really.
So, while it might be wrong to lump ALL Republicans together, what I want to know is why upwards of 90% of them vote for mean spirited politicians and propositions?
You should ask your fellow members why they believe irrational lies, and why they continue to support morons and criminals.
You might find out they aren't so wonderful after all.....”

As charismatic as the Obamas are (and that is important), their duties are to lead and govern. Same goes for the Medvedevs.
At this point in the game, "fashion" is pretty irrelevant. Do not confuse fashion with aesthetics or design, both of which are far more important to the public benefit than silly clothing choices.
Besides, we have other arbiters of style to lead us in that area.
The world has changed. If our leaders can be more relaxed, more...real; perhaps we'll be able to have a better, more relaxed world.
And that would be a good thing.”

“You check YOUR history. Lincoln and the Republicans were hardly saints. They were self interested businessmen. The Civil War was a takeover of the South by the Northern business interests. If Lincoln and the Repubs of that era were so concerned and adamant about slavery, why were Union states allowed to keep slaves after the Emancipation Proclamation?
Lincoln and the Repubs violated the Constitution, among other offenses. Same old Repubs.
As for women's suffrage, that was brought about by Progressives who worked in the Repub party of the times, as the Dem leadership was doing its best to be a regional party. The Dems kicked out the Populists, who along with the Progressives,were the true agents of change, post Civil War.
Populists and Progressives can work in either party. Both parties have done their best to kill any 3rd party made up of Pops and Progs...I don't necessarily trust the Dems, but I DARN sure don't trust the Repubs. Bad juju!”
