Reading the rest of the article helps understand what his position really is..."The White House has acknowledged in recent months that it won't meet the president's Jan. 22 deadline for closure. But on Tuesday, it was sticking to the blueprint it developed in the intervening year of releasing some captives, moving others to trial and holding yet others in a state of indefinite detention approved by the courts through habeas corpus challenges ."”

“Kind of. When everything is just so processed and computer generated, real innovation has almost stopped. We've been saved from banality maybe 4 times in pop music history by Elvis, The Beatles, The Sex Pistols and Nirvana. But I just can't see another big bang of innovation happening and music is starting to sound like it did in the late 80s... which means that real innovation is dead.when Pink and Adam Lambert are considered "a breath of fresh air" to pop music, you know it's past saving.”

“btw, on the cnn interview, she included the passenger that jumped the guy AFTER he ignited the device as part of the 'system'.
So, we're falling back to civilian passengers to take up the slack? This is incredible.
With the new rules in place, the hero passenger would have broken them by leaving his seat within an hour of landing.”

“You should listen to what she said again. She didn't say that before the incident occurred the system worked. She said once the incident occurred, then the set-up system worked and she was right. The proper people were contacted immediately.”

“I heard what she said and she didn't qualify her remarks on MTP. We all know "the system didn't work", system meaning what's supposed to protect us. For her to redefine what the system is or is not means she's more interested in words than in our protection. The system failed multiple times:
The terrorist
- boarded a plane to the US with no checked luggage
- banned from entering the UK
- visa never cancelled after warnings from his father
- boarded the plane with no US Passport
- had traveled to countries on the terrorist list
- never put on the US no-fly list”

“I'm so disappointed with HP right now! I thought that you all would be the ones to not have taken her words totally out of context. She didn't "backtrack ." She clearly stated yesterday, as well as today, that the once the incident occurred, the system worked. And that is very true! All the right people were contacted once the incident happened. “I'm not trying to diminish anything. Believe me, I was praising them all for saving the day initially. But then reports surfaced. Are you supposed to call him a hero just because? Even if it isn't true?
A firefighter is a hero...I'm not trying to take away anything from anybody. The media is making it seem as though this man saved everybody's life like Capt. Sully did, but that's not the case. If the device would have worked, it wouldn't have mattered. Luck had it that the device didn't work and that was that.
And how am I being cynical? By stating the reports that were released? If that makes me a cynic, then so be it. And quite frankly, I'm not being ridiculous ...your overreaction is the only thing that is ridiculous.”

“Hero is put in quotes, because there have been reports that nobody on the plane stopped the explosive device. Rather, it just didn't go off and that's what saved everybody. So I'm not quite sure you can call him a hero, because he didn't save anybody's life or really for that matter make much of a difference.”
speekup replied on Dec 27, 2009 at 16:18:52
“If you don't call that man a hero, then the word is meaningless. It doesn't matter if the device wasn't actually functional, it doesn't matter if he resists being interviewed afterward, what nationality he is, what gender, whatever else he does, etc. His basic instinct was to throw himself into the breach and risk his life to save the lives of others. Which he did. And, man, do we need some heroes these days...”
unfiltered replied on Dec 27, 2009 at 12:49:42
“This thought is ridiculous. When +99% of the world stands there and does nothing, you're trying to diminish a person who acted, not knowing whether another explosion was imminent. And, who would have protected all the other passengers had there been.
I guess the firefighter who runs in the building is only a hero if he saves a life.
I know there are cynics living their life looking past the beach sunsets to complain about the sand between their toes, but *^&*. You are ridiculous.”

“That's what you want to believe. Yet that couldn't be any further from the truth. Muslims always speak out and condemn these acts of terrorism. The fact that you may not want to listen or the fact that the media hardly ever shows us condemning it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I think it's quite sad though that people like you think we are obligated to speak out against terrorism. You would think that it'd be apparent and implied, but I guess many of us American Muslims know better. While we definitely condemn any acts of terrorism, it's a shame that you need to hear us say it to believe it.”
