“Sometimes it's the only place for one, though there are options that people may not think of. When we were in a small apartment, my husband built a small "cathouse" out of wood that he sanded and finished to look nice and like it belonged in the living room. He used hinges so that you could lift up the roof to access and scoop out the litter box. We later went to one of those auto-scooping boxes.”

“If that's true then why is Germany's health care system not single payer despite being started way back in 1883? Germany has a multi-payer system in which everyone is mandated to purchase some kind of health insurance, either public or private. If mandated systems inevitably lead to single payer, Germany has certainly had plenty of time to get there.”

“I want a system where a felon can be released from prison and then turn straight, in other words, work an honest living instead of returning to making money via crime. It's not in anyone's best interests for them to have no shot at getting a decent job. That's why we should end the era of giving them a high incentive to go back to crime. That's why getting rid of the box is a great idea.”

“No, the problems are not a result of lack of funds. The problems are the result of right-wing extremists such as yourself. The Republican Party has systematically destroyed middle class wages since the 1940s when they dismantled many of FDR's union protection laws via the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947. FDR's laws helped people actually get the wages they had earned via their hard work instead of letting it all get siphoned to the top to the oligarchs. Of course, the working class getting paid what they deserve is not even a concept you understand. Then in 1981 our biggest traitor president, Ronald Reagan, came along to continue the war on the working class by busting unions further. Now that we see an article about an oligarch when had much too much and wasted much of it, you blame the working class who object. Typical.”

Saymhael on May 22, 2014 at 00:12:36

“The entire problem here is that human beings all view each other as parasites thriving off of one another. Until we come to terms with the fact that it doesn't matter who has more or less or who needs more or less because were all on the same planet vying for the same exact goals. Those goals are life, happiness and security. Not to mention the furthering of the human race. The real question here should not be who has more to give and what they should but rather why we all have not yet realized that without all of us acting as a single comprehensible unit pushing to the same direction and helping those who fall no matter the costs we will never ever outlive our solar system. You people are only capable of seeing things within your own life spans because you're ALL selfish abhorrent creatures who are parasites. What you ALL should be thinking about and considering is how can i help the entire race rather than people in your immediate area, and how will that have an effect 500 years into the future and beyond. As a race we are capable of vastly more superior technology than we currently are but because everyone, like yourselves are more worried about costs and money and economics, we cripple ourselves.”

“Well said. It's a free country and people have the right to mark up their bodies if they want, but I like to think I have more self-respect than that. Besides, tattoos upset me viscerally. Frankly, this stuff just looks like a psychological cry for help. Again, I don't question anyone's right to have a tattoo if they want--just don't expect everyone to like it or be attracted to it. Freedom of speech/expression is a great thing, but we also have the freedom to reject said speech/expression if we choose. Finally, remember that those tattoos are gonna look really silly and ugly when you're 65 years old.”

“You shouldn't be sick of hearing about it because it's a debate worth having. If these foods are safe and desirable in other ways, it's up to the GMO companies to prove that. The burden of proof is one them and not the other way around. The public has the right to know what's in their foods. Each person should have the right to accept or reject GMOs. The safety of such foods is also not the only issue. Companies such as Monsanto patent life forms. It's unethical and should be illegal to own a life form. If they create a seed that makes an excellent crop that humans benefit from, great. But a farmer should not be beholden to Monsanto for future crops. Monsanto can make money on the first issue of such seeds. After that, they should be released to the public domain and anyone should be allowed to reproduce them.”

Americans Say Yes To Gay Athletes ... Until They Kiss

Commented May 15, 2014 at 15:52:31 in Gay Voices

“People aren't comfortable seeing what they're not used to seeing. It's going to take some time before people have a sense of this as normal. The same thing happened with interracial couples/marriage. Many years ago, a lot of people felt it was unnatural for a white and black person to be together romantically, especially if it was a black man and a white woman. Over time it's become accepted to where most people don't see it as a big deal today (though there are still some haters). It's going to be the same with gay couples. As much as the gay community would like to see an instant acceptance, that's unlikely to happen. What will happen is a gradual acceptance. In 15 years it will seem silly that anyone was upset by this kiss. The first openly gay player in the NFL is a milestone, not an instant and total change in views toward gays. No doubt, more milestones are in the works.”
