Move Your Money: A New Year's Resolution

Commented Dec 31, 2009 at 09:58:52 in Business

“Move money?

Is that what drives the economy?

After all, we are all debt managers, plain and simple.”

RSU replied on Dec 31, 2009 at 10:05:33

“It doesn't have to be that way.

Self control goes a long way toward financial freedom.

In fact, it's the number one rule!”

Many countries around the world, both black and white, share some guilt from the slave trade.

"Inheriting the Trade" by Thomas Norman DeWolfe is an excellent book by a descendant of New England slave merchants and how that legacy still shapes Americans, both black and white, today.

Sharing the Privilege of Abundance

Commented Nov 26, 2009 at 11:59:33 in Impact

“Abundance created through scarcity is not sustainable, and we have yet to conceive of an economic structure other than one which thrives on scarcity.”

Jake the Snake replied on Nov 26, 2009 at 12:19:34

“Sustainable abundance is an abundant life for every human being. It’s the opportunity for a decent life for every human being. It’s the opportunity for our children to live in a way where they can achieve high levels of self-expression and personal fulfillment and really contribute to a future world. Now, like you mentioned, our current economic models are broken because they’re not sustainable models. And self-interest alone will not create the innovations that we need to create a sustainable future. So, the future is going to change. It’s changing right before our eyes.”

Obama One Year Later: The Audacity of Winning vs. The Timidity of Governing

Commented Nov 03, 2009 at 10:45:02 in Politics

“If this is about inside lessons, then why the harshly critical headline?

Seems to me, candidate Obama learned as President Obama that changing the players does not change the game.

Is that a reason for criticism?

The game has roots deeper than any of us on this blog could imagine, and if President Obama was naive about that, then that was a lesson learned.

There is always a schism between the ideal and the real, and Barack Obama has had to be the negotiator extraordinaire in bringing alignment to those two forces.”

vinny replied on Nov 03, 2009 at 10:53:26

“obama didn't change the players, obama is playing the same game from mideast peace and afghanistan to the financial crisis. it will take a little time for obamacrats to catch on.”

iskra replied on Nov 03, 2009 at 10:51:06

“Agreed.

This works both ways. There are checks and balances in place to make sure that no one maniac at the helm can turn the ship too quickly or radically.

I'm thankful during the years of GWB that those restraints were there. Imagine the destruction if he had been empowered as many believe Obama is? We don't have dictators or kings for a reason.

Now the Dems are in charge they have to work within a system that's slow, fraught with naysayers and difficult to maneuver.

I think Obama knows what he's doing.”

Can You Change the Past?

Commented Oct 26, 2009 at 15:25:26 in Living

“To convince people that the past can be changed simply by tricking the mind into thinking so, is going to require the reconceptualization of time as we know it, which is linear and objectified.

Many other cultures do not possess the concept of time as historical or as Panniker succinctly put it, "historical time."

For them, experiences of the past remain alive, dynamic and accessible to the consciousness.

To convince us that we can "rewrite" the present by "rewriting" the past, first you must teach us how to properly view time.”

overd0g1 replied on Oct 26, 2009 at 17:25:10

“Remember: space and time are the same thing.”

johnsopinion replied on Oct 26, 2009 at 17:13:28

“Ever been driving a car and heard something on the radio
or saw something on the edge of the road or fly across your
path and it caused your mind to whisk away to an entirely different
scene where you entered an entirely different 'world?'

You enjoyed this 'world' that you followed for whatever purpose,
you 'became' this world. But then, suddenly, you are jerked back
into the present moment. Realizing that you had just driven about
a mile or so without cognition of having done so, you break out in
a cold sweat and pull off to the side of the road to catch your breath.
Ever done that?

Time ceases to exist. Space ceases to exist. It's only you, your
essence, no physical body, and whatever you were focused on
that fills the entire universe. Time isn't linear--until you acquire
beliefs about it.
The past, the present and the future all exist at once--and you
can witness that at any traffic intersection.”

“To me, there is no argument. Christianity (as well as other major religions) prohibit homosexual acts. There is no point in denying that. Also, all religions are discriminatory (all consider non-believers and believers in other religions as less deserving).
It is futile to build an argument for equal rights on a religious basis.”

Commented Oct 10, 2009 at 16:38:38 in Politics

“Ok. Another clarification. Lots of black skinned people choose not to self identify as being black, including people born on the continent of Africa.

Now, to make the argument that homosexuality and blackness are similar because neither a homosexual nor a black person can "help" being who they are, as implied by birth or genetic makeup, is patently false.

Race is not genetic. Please do some research on that. It is purely a social construction.

Again, thank you.”
