John Metz Denny's Obamacare Surcharge Stirs Big Mess For Restaurant Chain

Commented Nov 20, 2012 at 18:38:36 in Small Business

“I get upset when companies pull things like this, "Due to the (the economy, obamacare, or whatever is "plaguing" the workforce) we have to raise prices or do surcharges." We run around with our heads cut of and throw out these new policies or price increases that they really haven't thought through completely. Companies need to understand that they need to weight not only the short term consequences/risks of their decisions and the long term consequences/risks of their decisions”

“I agree, they should just go out of business.”

“If that franchise owner went against company policy then they had a right to shut him down. If an owner of a business does feel like making a statement against government policies I think they have a right to do so...but must face the consequences. Most do so silently simply by passing along the costs. He made his choice and must accept the consequences.”

“Lets get real, maybe 10% of people really use marijuana for medical purposes. Medical marijuana is just the stepping stone use to make people more widely accept it. States and places that use medical marijuana freely hand out prescriptions to anyone without a criminal record. All you have to say is that you suffer from depression, anxieties, or eating disorder. Plus the government already watches over medical marijuana clinics, most of them require to you to get registered so that if an official pulls you over they can see it on your record.”

“Even if only 10% of the people use it for medical purpose's, it's used for medical purpose's. George Washington grew hemp, and he is some hero. But if I smoke, I'm a criminal. Why? Also as far as the government watching clinics, big brother is right here reading this right now.”

“Alcohol is legalized. Cigarettes are legalized. These two legal substances are harmful physically, even to death. Marijuana isn't harmful physically, especially if you consume it in the form of food. Marijuana is addictive mentally tho.
Lets put the power into the hands of government because right now Marijuana is accessible to anyone who has money and wants it. If it becomes legal the government can monitor it and thus better control it. Drug cartels love having marijuana not legal because they get more money and don't have to pay taxes on that money.”

“The last thing we need is the government getting involved. What are they gonna do, tell you how many PLANTS you can grow? PLANTS! Also, alcohol and cigarettes have no medical use what so ever. There is no comparison.”

“The economy sucks right now. Everyone knows it. How about we legalize marijuana and reap the benefits?
1. We could tax it
2. Less people would be going to jail/prison for possession/distribution (billions of dollars each year go to taking care of inmates who are in prison because of marijuana)
3. Less gang wars over drug deals dealing with marijuana = less deaths and violence”

“Always about the dollar, right. Sell your souls just for a damned dollar. Let's legalize robbery and the take could be taxed. And any other activity that will destroy or kids and our morality, and take us from being looked at as the leading country in the world to one of the most decadent. Really..get a life. Ever seen the inside of a church??”
