“I've met a few tea party folks, and they are pathetic. These are the people who live their lives in fear and loathing of anyone or anything that is different. They believe every conspiracy theory that comes down the pike. They are easily manipulated. They are, for the most part, sorely under-educated. They are the malleable rubes who can be persuaded to vote against their best interests every time.”

“If you think you know so much about those issues, I challenge you to a debate on the health care bill and stimulus bill right now and we will see who is more accurate and correct. If you are willing to paint those who disagree with you as stupid and uneducated, game on,,, let's go. :) Do you believe that supporters of the health care bill are honest when they say it wont add to the deficit? and if so please explain why CBO was directed to calculate 10 years of revenues but only 6 years of expenses. If that is a "pathetic" and a view of someone that is "sorely under-educated" it should be easy for you to make me look foolish. Go for it :)”

“The Federal Reserve needs to be treated the way Grover Norquist described his plan for government, reduce it in size until you can drown it in the bathtub.”

“Kind of makes one's skin crawl to quote Grover Norquist . . . but yes.
The federal reserve is an anti-democratic institution with unlimited access to your money but zero accountability to you or anyone else that is paying their bills.
The fed needs to go, and in its place establish an institution that actually protects the People and their financial futures, and not just the financial futures of their Wallstreet pals.”

“Hillbilly Days[8] is an annual festival held in mid-April in Pikeville, Kentucky celebrating the best of Appalachian culture. The event began by local Shriners as a fundraiser to support the Shriners Children's Hospital. It has grown since its beginning in 1976 and now is the second largest festival held in the state of Kentucky. Artists and craftspeople showcase their talents and sell their works on display. Nationally renowned musicians as well as the best of the regional mountain musicians share six different stages located throughout the downtown area of Pikeville. Want-to-be hillbillies from across the nation compete to come up with the wildest Hillbilly outfit. The event has earned its name as the Mardi Gras of the Mountains. Fans of "mountain music" come from around the United States to hear this annual concentrated gathering of talent. Some refer to this event as the equivalent of a "Woodstock" for mountain music.
I guess them there "hillbillys" don't think it's such a derogatory term.”

“How about installment plans like buying furniture? Its how we paid for a tonsillectomy. Still cheaper than $1000/month for 20 years of good health and one, perhaps, one illness!
And don't you get it that healthcare is TOO expensive to begin with?? Why should one heart attack or cancer cost the same as a 5000 sq ft mansion with an indoor pool and hand sanded travertine floors throughout?? My point is that TRUE health reform involves bringing prices to realistic, affordable levels so that it is truly affordable and not something that has to bankrupt the middle class. Who goes bankrupt paying for illness?---The middle class----there is a safety net for the poor and the rich can afford it already.
IF people made more healthy choices for their health----I guarantee that Big Pharma and Big Medicine wouldn't be raking in so much $$$ as they do now---guarantee it!”

And yeah, I'm not thrilled about Obama perpetuating some of Bush's policies, but the bottom line is I trust his judgment. I like where he ultimately wants to take the country, and I understand it won't be easy. And we shouldn't make the conservative mistake of assuming that everything the opposition does is wrong and stupid. They did that with Clinton and made life much more difficult for themselves, and in the end, they circled back to what Clinton was doing anyway.”

Don't the Dems realize that if they passed a REAL health reform bill with a strong public option, the American people would support them far more than big pharma and insurance companies? Don't they get it?
Or, don't they care?”

“I disagree. Credit cards have ZERO downside to the consumer. That's because credit cards can be used for no additional cost - if you pay on time.
In return, you get a 30 day loan, online payments, customer service, and fraud insurance (you can cancel a credit card payment, anytime, for any reason).
You say you will never go back to them? Hah! You would be a fool, to turn down a thirty-day, 0-interest loan.
The real victims are the merchants.”

“Well, if we followed this plan--which, by the way, I think is on target--why should we limit companies and corporations from donating? If the money goes into a "blind trust," so to speak, then the companies and corporations wouldn't be able to direct their money any more than the rest of us. What do you think?”
Joethepauper replied on Sep 28, 2009 at 16:59:58
“They will find a way, because it defeats the purpose of giving money if legislation isn't tied to it. Why would a greedy corporate entity who's only purpose for being is amassing huge sums of money for itself give any money just because.....? Corporations aren't benevolent, generous champions of democracy......they are the opposite. The "goods and services" they offer is just a side benefit. Their purpose is to undermine democracy and take as much as they can, while giving back as little as possilble. If child labor laws hadn't been enacted, there would be kids in mines working their lives away for pennies so that the mine owner could enjoy a bigger yacht. How long are we going to live the Republican lie of Horatio Alger and Ayn Rand lie?? Wake-up people, it's almost too late. Maybe by the third bailout people might be as disgusted as I am.”
