“Why is it okay for the man who actually did his job, and did it well, to be fired? His job was to save and grow the economy, and he has.

Check out this month's Newsweek magazine for his interview. He's a very smart and capable man. People need to get the politics out of the economic problems and focus on fixing them, not attacking people for doing what they were hired to do. His job is not to create jobs. That's the economic adviser's jobs, not Geitner's.”

The team was made up of the glaciologist Luc Moreau, seven expert surveyors, and four mountain guides from Chamonix and Saint-Gervais in France. I'm not a big fan of Summers, either, but you have to admit that when Obama named his economic team, that set the stage for much of what happened in the rest of the year. Which is why it was "defining" for me.

I propose a compromise. Kill the Senate mandate and eliminate the House Public Option. Then it's a half-loaf (retaining the bulk of good reforms) without the moldly crust of a risk of complete failure.”
