“Wrong. They do see a dime of it. If colleges did not have their sports franchises they would have to increase tuitions, cut courses and professorships, not modernize facilities, etc. The athletic scholarship students would be going to a much poorer university as would all the other students.

On the other hand, Harvard disdained such a plebian slumming as running a sports business but rather, like the true gentlemen they are, put their investments into the stock market. But with the recent crash they are hurting badly. UCF, less so.”

“I doubt someone said don't be loyal to your father, rather while playing for the school's basketball team he wear the shoes of the sponsor of the team in order that everyone else not being named Marcus Jordan could benefit from a sponsor paying the school and supplying uniforms, shoes, and other equipment, as was the practice for the last four years. Being self-centered, at the expense of the school and other athletes shows how much Jordan cares for his soon to be alma mater, if he makes it to graduation.

As for likening NCAA athletes to servitude, get a reality and lose the myopic viewpoint. Few NCAA athletic teams make enough money to offset the costs of an overwhelming majority of a school's teams, e.g. uniforms, travel, electricity for the gym, field lights, showers, janitors, heat-A/C, buses, staff, coaches, trainers, professors, tutors, scholarships, financial aid, health care, etc., get it? Case in point, at Penn State, the proceeds from the football program used to fund ALL the athletic programs of the University. So as far as the, "athletes earning it" and, "not seeing a dime," that is quite the flawed analogy.”

“As long as you don't count a degree from the third biggest University in the country, top notch training facilities, and a full scholarship with tuition and board with some of the nicest dinning and living facilities in the country as "not sharing a dime of that 3 million with any of the kids that make it possible."

I know you've never been to UCF, so you have no idea the type of luxury these kids live in the 4-5 years they play there, but it's outstanding. I mean, for some of these guys, it's the nicest place they're ever going to live.

UCF does not scrimp when it comes to it's student athletes.”

But so what? Should they all be considered pros, and get paid?

Until that time, the fiction of "student athlete" remains, and these guys get a free education and the chance at turning pro, and they should just play ball, or try to go directly to the NBA.”

You're right. Wanting to get money to help more kids get a college education is pretty greedy. Much better that Mr. Jordan wears the shoes he wants than several people get a college education. Thanks for putting that in perspective for me.”
