“Desperate silly little lawsuit by a money grubbing small time director looking to get paid off of someone else's success.
She doesn't own the topic and she's hoping that ignorance of Black culture by some White jury will net her some Chris Rock money.
Boy, is she in for a rude awakening.
Alex Haley (of the book and TV miniseries "Roots" fame) doesn't own the topic of slavery, so when other movies like Sankofa and Amistad were made years later, he couldn't sue them because of the commonalities between the his and their topics.
Likewise he couldn't sue them just because they've seen the Roots TV series.
CNN could do a special on Black women and Black beauty products/hair care and the internalized Eurocentric beauty ideals and self-hatred experienced by Black women for centuries and then what?
Regina Kimbell expects them to cut her in for a piece?
The topic is not new, the experience is not unique and the story is all too common. She needs to quietly dismiss this suit and make no more noise before she 's bankrupted by Chris Rock suing counter-suing her.”

You've got to really shake things up and inspire us in order to get our vote, or else the people will just keep voting in whoever they think will do the least harm to the city and keep it running just a little bit longer without major catastrophe as opposed to someone who will truly reform the system.”

When I heard Obama won, I was ecstatic. i immediately thought of everything he's achieved, everything he;s accomplished with his life, all the things he had to do to get to where he is, the incredible obstacles, the tough choices when easier ones were offered, his vision, his dreams, his goals and his mission and the amazing accomplishments he's managed to pull off within the 9 months he's been in office both home and globally were nothing short of breath taking.
And to do them with such grace and statemanship in spite of the belligerence and hatred of the low minded was the mark of true greatness.
I believe he deserves the award more than anyone is giving him credit for.”

“Actually "marriage" is ancient but is not a religious rite. It was about the union of two tribes or clans in order to pool together their resources, augment their ability to defend themselves and their property and increase production.
Then it became about uniting kingdoms, so the prince and princesses of different kingdoms would wed.
Hell, King Solomon supposedly had over 700 wives, most of which were just to unite their lands under his kingdom.
But marriage was never a religious thing UNTIL religion decided to get into the act.
Think of religious marriage like saying a prayer before you eat.
Humans have been eating since the species began, but then religion came along and decided to add their own crap into a common every day ritual, throwing their fairytale deities into the mix so that when religious nuts eat, they are compelled to say a prayer or else they go to hell. lol”

For those that say he hasn't done enough let's just run down a few of his accomplishments (remember, the Award is NOT for his presidency, but for him).
1) Became the first non-White male to win the nomination of a major political party in the face of a political storm the likes of which few other candidates have ever withstood.
2) Became the first non-White male President of the United States
3) Gave the most groundbreaking and courageous speech on race this country has seen since MLK and began a national dialogue on race.
4) Gave America hope about the future, shattered the calculus of apathy built up by the previous 8 years and soothed the world after the nightmare of the Bush administration's unilateralism and jingoism.
5) Mended the burned bridges with the international community (we were just voted #1 most admired country by the world)
6) Slowed, halted and reversed the collapse of the U.S.banking and financial system and staved off the total collapse of the U.S. auto industry.
7) Is fighting for affordable universal healthcare as best he can
8) Is actively working towards nuclear disarmament
I could go on and on an on.
My question is - what have any of his detractors done that compares to those things?
What did they get up and do today?”

“Great points, but the author's argument for Clinton is a very good one. I'm totally pro-Obama but when you compare him to Clinton, I'd have to say Clinton should have gotten it for a job well done. Clinton is the ONLY alternative to Obama that comes to mind. However, Obama was given a huge pile o' you know what when he started and has overcome much worse odds. Maybe next year will be Clinton's year (I hope).
On a side note here, his greatest critics in the articles I've read have been the Taliban, Iraqis, Palestinians/Hamas, Pakistanis, and Republicans. Wonder why the Taliban would oppose it. Iraq is still an occupied land but they should keep in mind that the bombings are way down and the U.S. military's role has been shrinking. Palestinians are gonna be upset no matter what happens until they get whatever they want. The only reason republicans oppose Obama winning this prize is because his popularity is gonna skyrocket and the party membership is gonna shrink after this.
Obama has brought the world's faith in the U.S. back. World leaders trust him, sane people trust him, and everyone is much more willing to work with him (except for republicans).”

“The problem is that Obama was given the Nobel PEACE PRIZE. So, let's run it down:
1. Numbers 1 through 3 have nothing to do with the honor bestowed upon him.
2. Numbers 7 and 8 are totally irrelevant as they don't actually involve an accomplishment - wow, he's fighting for healthcare? Actively working towards nuclear disarmament?
3. Number 6 - As John McEnroe would say, "you cannot be serious"? Obama personally slowed, halted and reversed the collapse of the US banking and financial system? All on his own? Next up, curing cancer! Also, like number 1 through 3, has nothing to do with the honor bestowed upon him.
This post just shows how people trying to defend Obama's selection are completely grasping at straws. The Nobel Committee did an incredible disservice to Obama to give him this award. It puts Obama in a 100% no-win situation.”

The Hypocrisy of David Letterman

“Without a doubt, sexual harassment happens in the workplace but I think reframing Letterman's daliances as "sexual harassment by a man in power" is rather premature and unfair absent the details of the relationship.
But more importantly, there are some HUGE issues being overlooked.
The first is that as numerous studies prove, the #1 place where people today meet and fall in love with their future partners is AT WORK.
When you work in close quarters with someone for upwards of 8 hours a day, you get to know them, bond with them and get comfortable with them. This can lead to affection and attraction and that feeling is sometimes mutual, so romance blossoms.
This can happen with bosses just like coworkers.
Now, what if it the boss happens to be a famous, rich, powerful, intelligent, deeply funny and charismatic man?
Is it impossible to imagine that a young woman might find that package of qualities attractive and working in such close quarters during such long hours with such a man, begin to feel deep attraction for him and begin a romance with him?
Granted, David Letterman is no Brad Pitt and he's not young either, but neither is Jack Nicholson, Keith Richards, Gene Simmons or any number of older icons of their respective milieus who can still snag young hot chicks for just being who they are without having to bribe, sexually harass or rape them.
Please, let's use some reason and rationale here and not cry wolf.”

But people want that magic pill. My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer last January and we've chosen a natural approach, vegan diet, vitamins and herbs. His tumors are shrinking on sonogram and when people ask how he is doing and we tell them - they're eyes glaze over like they just cannot believe diet cures cancer. One person actually said, well then it must not have really been cancer. In which case, I said - then good think he didn't have a radial prostatectomy.”

“I've personally known vegans, who don't eat any dairy or milk, who have gotten cancer and died and knew a vegetarian woman who decided not to do chemo or other tradition therapies and only did healthy nutritional therapy and she died. However, another friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer, decided to do traditional chemo and went into remission. After that she only ate plant based organic foods to try to avoid a relapse. I've read that once you have cancer, certain vitamins that can help prevent cancer before you get it are actually feeding the cancer after you have it. I know chemo and other cancer therapies are very toxic and can actually help cause other cancers in the future, but they are very good at getting rid of the cancer in the short term, which is better than being dead while trying to be pure.
It seems to me this article is very irresponsible if it causes anyone to drop out of traditional cancer therapy. I'm all for eating right to avoid cancer but as my friend's tragic experience has shown me, once you actually get cancer, it is a different story.
However, in the future, there is research on using genetic and epigenetic techniques to cure cancer in a non-toxic and specific to the individual way. This is very exciting and will avoid the necessity of using toxic therapies to cure cancer.”

The Sad, Shocking Truth About How Women Are Feeling
Commented Sep 17, 2009 at 20:29:50 in Living
“I don't think it's related to your "progress" necessarily, but maybe the expectations and demands that your progress has placed on ALL women, rather than just the ones that want to experience professional growth and expansion and compete in the corporate rat race and business world as their full time lifestyle.
Now, please understand - I'm pro-feminist, so hear me out:
Women give birth to children. Men don't.
Women have provided the nurturing, protective and loving environment for raising children since time immemorial. Naturally, they've had to be home with the children in order to do so.
That's the natural social order for our species. Men labor at hunting and gathering while the women labor at caring for the children. Genetically, we are designed for those roles.
Now, not all men and women want that lifestyle.
Just as advances in technology have enabled us to overcome nature's design limitations (flight, cooking, etc.), advances in social engineering and industry have given men and women a broader range of lifestyle choices.
But genetic programming and purpose still remain.
The point is, you've redefined what it means to be a woman, though nature has not. Maybe for many of you, your bodies and psyches are saying, "Something's out of balance here. ".
I'm just saying, find your feminine core and nourish it from time to time.
You're not men. No need to pretend that living like one all the time equals fulfillment.”
