“At some point reality slaps us all so hard in the face, that only the most irrational fringe extremists continue to ignore the obvious truth in favor of political dogma.
That time is now.
The neo-con deregulation dogma has proven to be a disastrous failure, and every day we continue the same policies while hoping for different results, is one day deeper in debt and closer to further disaster.
We need rational, effective remedies and policy now, not more mindless sloganism, and detachment from reality from the same old demogues that got us into this mess to begin with.”

“We have been benefiting for generations from the infra-structure projects completed under Great Depression era public works projects.
And public works projects would be far more effective in getting money back into circulation among the working and middle classes than the "trickle down" economics (which of course never trickles out of the hands of the wealthiest 1%) of shoving more taxpayer dollars down the "too big to fail" Goldman Sachs, AIG, etc., rat holes.
People need work. Put them to work honorably doing the many important things that need to be done to rebuild this Nation's infrastructure and to retool for a better future for all.
And no one can credibly argue that this could possibly, even in the worst case scenario, be a bigger waste of money than giving yet more trillions to Wallstreet for no reason other than they control the fed, have an army of lobbyists, and want all of your money, and think you should just hand it over and stop asking questions.”

“The crews allocated toward "public works" spent much of their time idle, handing out propaganda pamphlets, raking leaves, building parks, or building poor quality gravel roads. Most the money was a complete waste. The TVA produced some good results; however, the guy who ran TVA was a socialist who spent great effort laying power lines parallel to private lines, building public powerplants in areas that were already supplied with power from private plants, or built where private investors already had plans or desire to build plants in certain areas - so all in all, the increases in employment from the actual construction work of the TVA wasn't much higher than it would have been had the private sector been left to its own devices. Plus, the damage done by the TVA to the private utility companies some say reduced total employment because of the govt infringement into that business. For those that don't know, the utility industry was a high flying growth industry in the 1920s, not the relatively boring slow-expanding industry it is now.”

“Sure. They should pass a law in Washington. Words on paper will stop the thugs on the street.
Look how well the "war" on drugs has worked. Prisoners are selling drugs in prison.
Felons are already prohibited from having weapons, but thing is, unlike law bidding citizens, they don't care what the law says.
Reasonable gun control laws may be a good start, but don't kid yourself: We need to change our culture, not just our weapons laws.
In Switzerland citizen soldiers have military grade weapons in their homes, and yet their streets are safe and ours are not.
We have a violent culture, a culture that celebrates and rewards violence, even in children.
We need stable families, stable communities, and a culture that celebrates and rewards scholarly achievement, community service (the voluntary kind), and good citizenship, civility, good character, kindness, and not just pounding the bejeezus out of someone on the movie screen, athletic field, or the street.
Until that changes, words on paper will change nothing.
And neither will denial and ranting that it ain't so . . .
It would be great if a new law was the magic remedy, but the real remedy is changing ourselves, not just our laws.”

And here's a tip: When you find yourself trapped in a deep hole, stop digging.
What did everybody think was going to happen?
We increased spending, cut taxes, and got bogged down in two pointless, unwinnable foreign money-pit quagmires.
This has been disastrous for the American People.
Worth noting though: The people in Washington and Wallstreet who now make all the decisions (and don't really care what we think) seem to be doing just fine, don't they?
So when they have suceeded in looting the former worlds wealthiest nation into the status of a third-world banana republic police state, they can just catch a plan to Europe (that place they keep telling us we shouldn't be like) secure in the knowledge that our money is now in their Swiss bank accounts.”

Dean: Dems 'In Deep Trouble' On Health Care, The Only Options Are A Bad Bill Or 2010 Losses

“I would like to suggest a third option: DEM leadership acting like they are the majority in Congress and having the guts and the integrity to pass legislation that is actually good for the future of the American People, and not just good for insurance corporations and lobbyists.
The rest of the developed world has already done this: Single payer. It's the only realistic way to cut costs and provide universal quality care.
Tell Lieberman and the other fence setters that they either do the right thing or they will be publicly exposed, rebuked, booted from their committees and other perks, and that they will face heavily financed primary opponents.
Right now the DEMs are pretending they want to pass real health care reform, while still stuffing their pockets with lobbyist cash to support the status quo.
This is a sham folks, not real reform.
They plan to shove the lobbyists' version down our throats and then claim that was all that was possible.
It is all that is possible if you want to keep getting lobbyist cash rather than serving the people who elected you.”

The WH would do well to stop continuing failed Bush era policies and hoping that this time they will work.
They won't.
The U.S. needs to come clean on torture and other war crimes, and continuing the stone-walling and cover ups is far more damaging in the long run.
In hiding the truth, we are only protecting the guilty.
And the whole Nation should not be associated with the war crimes of the neo-con radical fringe.
The truth won't go away, acknowledged or not.
Instead of the U.S. implicitly defending their crimes, let the war criminals defend their own crimes.”

“The best thing you can do to fight against crazy is to give crazy people a stage.
Let the whole world see just how crazy they really are.
Let the terrorists be the best witnesses against themselves.
Problem here though, is that in the last 8 years the U.S. also had a heavy dose of crazy, invading Iraq for no good reason, jumping in the same Afghanistan trap that sank the world's other super-power, and deluding ourselves into thinking that some how torturing prisoners and ignoring our own Constitution, the Rule of Law, and our better principles would make us safe when exactly the opposite is true.
If we would have taken the high ground in fighting against terrorism, we would now have nothing to fear.
But what we must fear now is not the insane message of the terrorists, but that they will expose our own acts of torture and other related insanity for what they were: Acts of generalized revenge, hatred, and misguided cowardice.
Nonetheless, the best ways to deal with both insane terrorists and our own insane past deeds of torture, etc., is in the open and honestly.
Nothing good happens in secret.
We must show the world that we are not afraid, and that even though we have fallen from our own principles, we are now returning to the Rule of Law.
When we fearlessly do what is right, for the whole world to see, we have nothing to fear.”
