“History strongly suggests that there is no "win" here, no matter how many bodies we
throw at it. Afghanistan is not Iraq, not that we "won" there, either. An Afghanistan "surge" will only serve to keep our transport pilots busy flying bodies into Dover AFB.

McCrystal has failed the troops already there - note the sharp increase in American deaths & injuries when he decided to put them in far-flung tiny outposts with no air support or reliable supply lines. You want to add another 40K troops to this fatally flawed plan? I sure as hell don't want my kid tossed into that mismanaged fiasco.”

“Complete and utter bull.

Not only can she neither comprehend nor address international issues beyond the most rudimentary deductions, but even a complete 1 d1 ot is more than capable of deducing that a headscarf is to be expected when delving into many regions in the Middle East in which this custom is mandated.

HIllary supporters remind me of overzealous parents who praise their two year olds ability to say "dada" as example that he/she is wise beyond her years. Thus, whenever Hillary makes a simple deduction which even a kindergartner could figure out, her fanatical support base erupts in overzealous cheers about how incredibly "intelligent" she is.”

suddenly it was in our face as pro-war propaganda. There's
already fierce retribution ... it's the Taliban way, and they're
already rapidly regaining control, in spite of our presence.

If we care so much about Afghan women, then line up
every military transport aircraft we have on the runways
over there and give them a ride to the country of their
choice.

Our eternal occupation isn't going to change a
thing, or "liberate" anyone.”

“It takes a lot of beans, bullets, and baind-aids to support
the infantry. If you deploy a combat brigade, thousands of
support troops must go with them. Why WaPo is trying to
make a gotchya story out of this is perplexing. Huff's headline
tying this to the Nobel is downright ridiculous.”

slowhand0728 replied on Oct 13, 2009 at 08:57:07

“While you are absolutley correct about the Support troops, it should have been announced with the original deployment of combat troops. Most people, myself included had thought the 21K surge was combat + support at the time. Also you dont need 1.5 to 1 ratio when it comes to support, at least not normally these days.”

One thing is certain — President Obama won’t be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action."
