“I can't believe the issues you brought up aren't on the list. Thanks for writing them in, and bringing it up here. I read Huffpost almost everyday and I'm getting more and more frustrated that anyone can think other issues matter if we don't deal with Climate change.”

“New fan...climate change front and center. I can't think of any issues that we need to deal with; it's awful the "spin" from climate change deniers.”
“I would like to know more about smaller populations that roost around neighborhoods are doing. This website provides ways to help. Building bat houses seems to be very helpful. http://www.batconservation.org/”

“Dividing up populations is definitely a good move.”
“I know! I haven't put money in to the greed system for 15 years and some things longer. Buy organic, buy 100% recycled (why do people cut down the Boreal Forest to wipe their...), buy local, eat real food, buy 100% renewable in deregulated states. If you can do it, do it! I'm lower middle class, it doesn't cost that much more. Bring down your budget (and lower carbon emissions) by not eating much meat.”
“Yes, I cannot understand why they hate their fellow human kind so much (well they probably aren't human). They could be helping the world become a better place with all of that money. It is truly bizarre behavior. Greed.”
“Thank you Sen. Jeff Merkley. Can we just have the same labeling of GMO's as Saudi Arabia, China and Russia have? Support the Boxer sponsored Bill. MICHAEL TAYLOR, Obama appointee former VP at Monsanto, now Dep Commisioner FDA. EPA ruling on upping limits of Roundup in our food supply/ feed (still taking comments act now http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/50865/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=10886. City dwellers already have 5-20 upper limits for water in urine. Bt toxin lingers in body, despite industry claims it doesn't. Their seeds don't feed the world, they just feed their shareholders.
The world is coming together this Saturday against Monsanto- http://www.march-against-monsanto.com/p/blog-page.html
Organics are at risk, the wind blows the mutations.”

“Wow, excellent article, well done in depth reporting I hope will be distributed widely. I have been immersing myself in the latest Climate Change science. It is so depressing that I can't do it all the time, but I think that's what has to be done. If we are not facing the facts on this issue everyday, if this is not front page news everyday, we have no chance for life as we know it. I haven't eaten any fish from the ocean in 20 years. Every climate change story is endemic of the larger issue, things are going to change. Only when large corporations who run the world start to see their bottom line drop will the world shout "fire!" And oil companies and hedge fund managers will be the last on that boat. Elizabeth Warren needs to read this article. The problem for the little guy is "What do masses of people do for an economic living when there is nothing left to do?" Please share this article.”
“Thanks for the list the comprehensive list, I did not know some of these. Just read Plutocrats by Kristia Freidman over weekend. Free market economy has brought us the hollowing out of the U.S. middle class. The Plutocrats in America could care less about our wages, they want us to meet somewhere in the middle with the rest of the developing world! I think we are just screwed, but maybe one of them will take on the American Middle Class as one of their pet charities.”
“I am for a gun registry. I am happy this bill didn't go anywhere, it seems to have no teeth. You can sell guns to friends? "Hi friend." Stop being such wimps congress. Educate. Stop working from a "what we can get done" point of few and start dreaming of a what you'd like to get done view. Peace is not dead! Dream of a better world. What ever Frank Lutz types put out there be just as extreme in the opposite direction. American's are with you - let the GOP bury itself. They've lost the last 3 general elections.”
“This is a very complicated issue (as so many are). Read Harriet Washington's book "Deadly Monopolies". The general public doesn't realize they are already patenting your genes, even genes specific only to you, like a variant that exists only in your sole body. If you have an unusual reaction to a disease they take your tissue, study it, isolate the variant, develop therapies and then don't have to give you a dime (I think there are other cases of this sort under review in the court system).
Also your tax dollars have payed for a great deal of this study, but we do not share in the monetary gains and only share the medical progress depending on how much insurance we carry. I would like to see further investigation and light into this subject. And not from the comical House republican's view " do we really need to study golfers swings?"
Of course it does cost an immense amount of money to fund this research. Aquabounty and their Frankenfish will be in trouble if not approved by the FDA. I think this goes back to the profits for investors and CEO pay? There has to be a happy median between costs and greedy profiters.”
“Universe bless you Mr. Bowman and all the rest of the real non Big Ag farmers. My grandfather was a soybean farmer in Ohio, and his father before him and so on through my past generations. Many organizations are proving you don't need as many herbicides when using Organic methods. Rodale Institute and harvesting-justice.org are a couple of organizations who are helping the family farmer. Medical ethicist Harriet Washington's Deadly Monopolies exposes the dangers of patent protection. I would love to see a suit brought against Moncrapo by the Amerindians for original patent protection on corn seeds.”
Umm - not really on Feb 21, 2013 at 09:15:18
“"I would love to see a suit brought against Moncrapo by the Amerindians for original patent protection on corn seeds."
Do you have any idea how patents actually work . . . and what they actually do? Apparently not, or you wouldn't have made that utterly ridiculous comment.”

“I agree with you. Having monthly health care costs equal to more than you pay on housing is insane. People call it socialist for the government to rein in executive salaries, but it is madness that they can make that much money and spread the costs to us.
Also, cheap food is not cheap, just like cheap oil. There are hidden costs, like workers not being able to go to the doctor, and how about the health problems this food causes? If it weren't for the fact that I would loose my house in a catastrophic event I wouldn't even pay health insurance. I don't use any of that sick care system.”
“I think this is where the conversation needs to be going. There is a big difference between small businesses and Murray Energy/Papa John's. If you have more than 10 million in the bank and you are making a million or more a year, then you can probably afford compassionate capitalism (I'm willing to concede that 10 in the bank may not be enough, but I'm pretty sure a family can survive on a million a year, even at a 39% tax rate). Wouldn't this company also be receiving tax subsidies? I would like to see us (as a nation) focus on specifics and not generalize the problem, but just having a conversation is a great start.
Also, this really sheds light on the real costs of issues, a pizza is subsidized by our government (wheat and dairy), then we have to subsidize the health care to take care of the people who eat it. Coal is subsidized, then we have to subsidized the asthma it causes.”
lrobb on Nov 11, 2012 at 10:30:04
“Exactly the point. Small business--especially very small mom and pop businesses--have been the red headed step children when it comes to any kind of federal incentive.
I have an LLC which runs every bit of profit from my business directly through my personal income taxes at those rates. The only stocks I own are in my IRA. I only get the same deductions as the average family, and I can assure you my effective tax rate is higher than even President Obama's.”
“Thanks for bringing this up. I am a Obama supporter, but if we don't see some new appointments in his next term, he is either ill informed or in or it. It must be impossible to be fully briefed on all aspects of the tangled tentacles of Big Pharma, Energy and Banking, but after four years there are some associations that you don't need a Harvard Law degree to understand. Plus the whole "feeding the Masses" argument is about as plausible as the "Funding the masses" (by the banks).
Everyone should read "Deadly Monopolies" explains the global rape and pillage of Monsanto. Yes and lets not forget the High Shame of the Land, Recuse themselves? Like another poster said, that would require someone in oversight, and they have pretty much stripped that out. Also everybody should read "Predator Nation" by the author who did "Inside Job" - I just really hope the Attorney General does!”

“Thanks for the other articles proving efficacy, yet the headline from this article is going out across the newswires as we speak. I am going to have to note the media's culpability in this, as so many things. I also agree "healthy"? Yet they get all these colds. Vitamins work in conjunction with many factors in a human. Another study wonderfully designed to fail. Compliance, (the reason for the monthly dose). Dr. N Gonzalez has a book "What Went Wrong" about his experience w/ the NIH and how nutritional studies must be designed for highly compliant persons. http://www.dr-gonzalez.com/books.htm”
“I read the abstract from the study, because I was disappointed in the results reported here (guess I was looking for a design flaw). I don't think this guideline is unfair, but I am currently scheduled for both screenings. I continue to believe prevention in the form of healthy lifestyle choices is my best bet for beating cancer.
One form of screening that is working wonderfully for early detection of female reproductive cancers - PAP Smears. The HPV vaccine will prove to be an unmitigated fraud. The NNT (Number Needed to Treat) for Gardasil is in the 1000's . Most statisticians agree an NNT over 40 is no more than gambling. More money being funneled into Big Pharma's coffers with the CDC's blessing. I will absolutely not let my daughter be vaccinated with Gardasil. Insurance companies are either in bed with Pharma or they need to wake up and cut waste where it is appropriate, don't they have even a little power against big Pharma?”
Despyria on Sep 14, 2012 at 05:51:24
“This doesn't address any of those issues. Just Ovarian Cancer Screenings.”
“I agree with both of you. Sign's sure are adding up and people are not paying attention. Both brought to you by Greedy Moneyed Corporate Interests. At least Huffington Post is having the shadow conventions to help people keep up with real issues.”

“I think the author of this article left out one of the most important components of this study. The epigallocatechin gallate, (commonly know as EGCG) a polyphenol (type of antioxidant) found in green tea was encapsulated in vesicles that carry transferrin (a plasma protein that transports iron through the blood). So a new delivery system was established to reach the tumors which is great news, but this is more of a biotech finding than evidence to drink more green tea.”

“I am an advocate of all natural therapies for prevention and possibly to cure cancers. There is a lot of convincing evidence, well run studies you can read on Pub Med. I really appreciate your post though, because I agree with you, when people post extraordinary claims as above, they unintentionally contribute to the general public not getting the information on prevention because our positions are not taken seriously. And yes the information could be harmful, my thought is many natural therapies will only work on the most healthy of us, because other bodily systems must be in tip top shape to make the therapies effective. Anyway, way too complicated for a post or one article. I appreciate your time to clear up the preceding quote. I do wish general population would take prevention more seriously. Someone who is laying out ways to cure Diabetes naturally Dr. Mark Hyman and his therapies are something we should all take very seriously.”

“It is possible that I would be, but there is quite a bit of research supporting the many health benefits of dark chocolate. I was actually being a little flippant about something I do take seriously - Natural substances whenever possible for whatever ails you. There is so much we can do naturally to prevent disease, and pure dark chocolate (hold the sugar) is one of them.”

“Don't worry. In the next two years, this conclusion will be negated and a new study will be underway. This is called the funded research scam.”

“Hi-It is cocoa101blog.com. I haven't read it but because of your info wanted to look it up. Can you tell me the brand you use? I buy a raw powder to avoid the "dutching", but I would love to know the company that does the cold processing. Raw bars are so expensive!”
Diana McCalla on Aug 18, 2012 at 11:53:30
“You can also find all eight of the products on cocoa101.com. It is the site put out by the company. You can click on all of the products and check out each of them. Ever if the powder is raw, most of the antioxidants are gone within 30 days because of a term called "polyphenol oxidase". Part of our cold press process is we remove the outer layer on the shell, otherwise the antioxidants continue to break down. That is also where the caffeine is located. Our product test as high for antioxidants a year, two years later as when we package it because we remove that shell. Hope I'm not getting too technical.”

“I too have tried to eliminate all plastics. There is a wealth of information on BPA as an endocrine disruptor, endocrine system is responsible for regulating fat storage. "Slow Death By Rubber Duck" is a great book about chemicals in our everyday life, and goes into some of the science.
It is time consuming to refill my BPA free bottles, and always use glass for storage and the small amount of microwaving I do. Impossible to get all the chemicals out of our bloodstream see: http://www.forbes.com/2010/01/21/toxic-chemicals-bpa-lifestyle-health-endocrine-disruptors.html

“Yes, thanks for the clarification. Doesn't it seem suspicious that so many layman (I am assuming you are not a professional biologist or nutritionist) know that the synthetic vitamin E is dangerous, but the journalist who wrote this and the people who designed the study don't?”
