Krugman: Deficit Hawks Trying To Scare People With Big, Out-Of-Context Numbers
Commented Nov 30, 2009 at 13:09:10 in Business
“"The Nation's DC editor Chris Hayes put it succinctly, using an old saying, in a recent column: "'When you owe $100,000, the bank owns you. When you owe $100 million, you own the bank' -- and it aptly describes the US relationship with China, which holds approximately 70 percent of its 2.3 trillion foreign reserves in dollars." "
A key to all doors.
And as we roll along it will be China, N. and S. America, Israel and Britain against Russia, Africa, Middle East...European Union? unknown
That's what's ahead........scary.........did we have any choice?
Neanderthals, homo sapien's...just hope there is something better around the corner that we can morph into.”

“Many great comments from Readers!
Michael It's a well written peace and the concepts are solid.
I do think there are additional points not mentioned so far
Balance of Power in the region; or the need to increase that area for Israel. Piss off the Russians;
Oil; has everyone forgotten a main reason for Iraq and the reason that Bhutto died;
And let's not forget that Osama has been dead since 2007.
This is just the powers that be, running politics in the US until we die which is just around the corner. They made Obama and they will kill (not literally) Obama if he steps out of line. He's just doing the best balancing act he can muster and that is a profile in Courage.”

“"When we hear about members of Congress holding up a vote (and we've heard it a lot lately), most of the time, it's a ploy to secure some kind of pork for their home district. This was an instance of the brakes being put on not for pork -- but for principle." Hope finally! did Congress get the message instead of BO's major campaign slogan?
They forget that people have been using up their savings and 401K's ; once that is gone; mortgages will be 2 out of 4. Then you couple that with the banks still doing predatory lending and Wall Street still packaging CMO's and it has all started all over again.
I say it's time to let Tim and Larry go and the WH to get on the ball. (Let's not forget that NO still hasn't recovered! And it's one heck of a mess.
Great Article Arianna!”

NO matter what you do, the evil ones will find a way around it...
...the public doesn't need to know about it! ... It would be detrimental to the banks...
considering how long it takes to get anything passed and then whatever date they put on it... The banks could clean up their act with the help of the regulators if need be.....
I remember the big boss at a bank I used to work at... I put in a double check so people could know at an instant that something was wrong. She yelled at me to take it out and moved me on and then made life miserable for me so I transfered to another bank job and then into nursing.

Mad at Greedy Insurers for This Health Care Mess? Then Why Aren't You Mad at Your Greedy Neighbors?
Commented Oct 09, 2009 at 11:10:01 in Politics
“You're going after obesity and addiction. Surgeon General Koop in 1993 determined that quiting smoking is as hard if not harder than to quit cocaine. And if one's mother smoked during pregnacy, you might as well shot yourself as the ability to quit is nearly impossible. That is really too much!
Once the insurers pay for psychological treatment, I'm game but not before. Those people are not being greedy and you have a very misunderstood view of those people.
And while I'm at it; are you aware of the increase of obesity due to anti-depressant drugs? They increase the cortisol in one's system which in turns increases the mid section of one's body; couple that with the increase in sales of these drugs, ( now for dogs with depression) , that gives you have a pretty big picture of the true greed feeding your frenzy from pharma to insurance companies.
To become better informed read Dr. Ann Blake Tracy's book "Prozac Panacea or Pandora?"”

The Public Option Lives On

“Some commenters are forgetting that $$ rule everyone. So if the public option is less, more people will switch to it. The HC industry will have plenty of wiggle room as their CEO's are paid 550x of their average worker; insurance will go down for everyone.And tlets not forget their expensive get aways for their middle managers...poof!
And if public option keeps it bargaining power, then more and more charades with come down.

Geithner: Unemployment Will "Absolutely" Be Lower This Time Next Year
Commented Sep 11, 2009 at 01:00:28 in Business
“You beat it will be; as no one will have a job 0/0 equals lower; the way they do the statistics, they never show the ones that have never gotten another job and so they are out of the numbers this has been going on for decades.”
FreelanceWriter replied on Sep 11, 2009 at 01:21:35
“I agree the way the Labor Department assembles its statistics -- and to be fair, this is true whether a Democrat or Republican in office -- is a COMPLETE FARCE.
A friend lost his job in February. He filed for unemployment... they lost his application... he refiled... they never sent him any forms to get benefits... then because California is so in the tank, he couldn't even get through to EDD (California unemployment) for weeks at a time, at which point they'd lose his files again. Finally after SIX MONTHS he got ONE check for 200 bucks and THEN got a letter saying he'd been CUT OFF from thousands of dollars of benefits because he didn't file his paperwork on time -- the same paperwork they never sent. So now he has to go to an Appeals court to try and win his money.
The point of this story is that all along he's TECHNICALLY not considered unemployed to CA or to the Labor Department because he hasn't gotten any money. And since he literally CAN'T file (since they won't send him the paperwork) he doesn't show up in any counts -- hence he's invisible. So no wonder the numbers seem to be dropping.
As I said, this isn't about Obama...Bush and his people played the same game...but it IS a shell game. The truth is things are much worse than Washington ever wants to let on and BOTH sides have been manipulating the numbers for years.”
