Scott Smith CHOSE to go to the movie theater, even though he was supposedly "fearful". No one made him go the the theater.

Fires, car accidents, and burglaries all involve elements that are not necessarily within our control.

Your analogies are wrong and stupid.”

More stupidity. No, this argument is NOT invalid. The point is that the daughter with albanism is more susceptible to UV damage due to the partial lack of pigment in her skin (i.e. partial albanism). Albinos are not magical people who get a sunburn from a different form of UV radiation than the rest of us; they simply burn faster because there is no melanin in their epidermis to absorb the ultraviolet radiation. Just stop posting. You clearly don't understand how sunburns, sunscreen, or even the sun works.”

Clearly you don't understand this. Sunscreen doesn't work after a certain period of time. Therefore a "base" is NOT a "base" after said period of time. IT WOULDN'T MATTER.”

“Why are you assuming no other children were sunburned? Did you read that somewhere, or do you just know all the other children at this particular school?

"Also, did she send any to school with the children?"

Another stupid question. It wouldn't have mattered if she sent them with a 5 gallon buck of SPF 50: they were NOT ALLOWED to apply it without a doctors written permission. Clearly you didn't read the article, even if your eyes skimmed the words on the screen.

Your answers/questions aren't stupid because they aren't what I "want to hear": they are stupid because they are premptively answered by the article that you claim to have read.

Sorry if you think it's "rude" to label your comments appropriately, simply because it's not what you want to hear...”

“No. I think you didn't read the article because you asked "Why aren't you blaming the mother that didn't put any sunscreen on them before they left the house?", when the article CLEARLY states why the mother didn't apply sunscreen.

You asked a stupid question, therefore I assume your reading comprehension is poor.

Of course, you responded with a stupid answer too, so clearly your critical thinking skills suffer as well. 5 HOURS of outside activity. You must have missed that in the article too. Reapply sunscreen every 2 HOURS. You must have missed that in the article too. What sunscreen lasts for 6-7 hours (assuming time between application at home, travel to school, and time in class before field day started)? They would have gotten sun burned no matter what.”

“But again, why are no other children burned? And I know she didn't apply it because it was raining, but I stated in a different comment that she can't predict if the weather is going to change and  the rain clear up. So if field day is scheduled she should have put some on as a precaution. As I also said before, better safe than sorry. And having a base of sunscreen is better than having absolutely none. Also, did she send any to school with the children? I don't think my answer is stupid just because it's not what you want to hear. Kind of rude of you to say, actually.”

sandmn7442 on Jun 26, 2012 at 13:45:48

“Ridiculous? Perhaps your hiding your head in the sand is ridiculous also. At what price are you willing to risk the sanctity of a child's body? If you choose to risk your body, that's your privilege. Kids have no adult vision, someone has to be the adult. One risk CAN produce one event that will scar a child for life. You may be willing to take that risk but what's ridiculous is your mocking a thought that might be a concern for another parent without your naivette.”
