Encinitas Union School Yoga Sees Backlash, Parents Call It Religious Indoctrination

Encinitas Union School Yoga Sees Backlash, Parents Call It Religious Indoctrination

“While yoga can be part of a religious practice, it is generally is not taught that way in American classes. Not much different than a fitness class, but much more mindful, deliberate and gentle. The emphasis is stretching, strengthening, being present and in tune with one's body. In a country where obesity, adhd and preventable diseases prevail it can provide incredible benefits.

To those christians who fear their children would be indoctrinated, I recommend taking a few yoga classes. You will leave feeling taller, balanced, more energetic and you will sleep better than you have in a very long time.

I find it surprising that so many people of faith, have so little faith in their God and their beliefts so as to feel the practice of yoga could threaten that. To those of us who practice yoga on a regular basis know, the worst thing that can happen is peace of mind. Seems to me we don't have enough of that in this world. Maybe some people prefer it that way.”

“As repugnant as it is, it comes as no surprise.

On the night he signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Johnson said to his aide, Bill Moyers, "I think we just delivered the South to the Republican Party for a long time to come."

Any reasonable person can see the undertone of superiority (at best) and racism (at worst) behind many of the republican backed policies. The right has set policies that have "re-distributed" income in favor of the wealthy for decades, a group who more and more seem to feel "entitled" to it. As profits, CEO salaries and bonuses soar, the labor share of output is at an all time low......this can nothing more than a systemitc, legitized form of slavery.”

...consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion.

A couple of terms need explanation. The "Kingdom of God on the earth" and "Zion" mean, to Mormons, not just their church, but ultimately the theocracy that will replace the non-religious civil government. They believe, of course, that Christ will come to run this government, using faithful Mormons as administrators."

“Here is an excerpt from an article that may shed some light on why.

"A multibillion-dollar business empire that includes agribusiness, mining, insurance, electronic and print media, manufacturing, movie production, commercial real estate, defense contracting, retail stores and banking, the Mormon church has unprecedented economic and political power. Despite a solemn stricture against any act or tolerance of gambling, Mormons have been heavily invested and exceptionally influential in the Nevada gaming industry since the great expansion of modern Las Vegas in the 1950s. Valued for their unquestioning loyalty to authority as well as general sobriety — they are prohibited from imbibing in alcohol, tobacco or coffee — Mormons have long been recruited into top positions in government agencies and multinational corporations. They are prominent in such institutions as the CIA, FBI and the national nuclear weapons laboratories, giving the church a sphere of influence unlike any other American religion in the top echelons of government"

“We were taught that America is the Promised Land,” Moody said in an interview.”The Mormons are the Chosen People. And the time is now for a Mormon leader to usher in the second coming of Christ and install the political Kingdom of God in Washington, D.C.”

In this scenario, Romney’s candidacy is part of the eternal plan and the candidate himself is fulfilling the destiny begun in what the church calls the “pre-existence.”

Despite a solemn stricture against any act or tolerance of gambling, Mormons have been heavily invested and exceptionally influential in the Nevada gaming industry since the great expansion of modern Las Vegas in the 1950s...."

..."Romney, like his father before him who voluntarily tithed an unparalleled 19 percent of his personal fortune, is among the church’s wealthiest members. And like his father, grandfather and great-grandfathers before him, Mitt Romney was groomed for a prominent position in the church, which he manifested first as a missionary, then as a bishop, and then as a stake president, becoming the highest-ranking Mormon leader in Boston — the equivalent of a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Called a “militant millennial movement” by renowned Mormon historian David L. Bigler, Mormonism’s founding theology was based upon a literal takeover of the U.S. government. In light of the theology and divine prophecies of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, unamended by the LDS hierarchy, it would seem that the office of the American presidency is the ultimate ecclesiastical position to which a Mormon leader might aspire."

We saw this same attempt to establish a theocracy during the Bush Adminsitration when they "picked the dean of Regent's government school, Kay Coles James, to be the director of the Office of Personnel Management -- essentially the head of human resources for the executive branch. The doors of opportunity for government jobs were thrown open to Regent alumni."

“"In last night’s presidential debate, Mitt Romney went after President Obama’s tax plan by citing a study from the innocuous-sounding National Federation of Independent Business, or NFIB.

“Your plan is to take the tax rate on successful small businesses from 35 percent to 40 percent. The National Federation of Independent Business has said that will cost 700,000 jobs,” Romney said.

In fact, NFIB isn’t all that innocuous — it’s actually a conservative lobbying organization. The group was the lead plaintiff in the unsuccessful lawsuit that brought the Affordable Care Act to the Supreme Court. NFIB’s entire advertising budget this year went to ads that either supported Republicans or opposed Democrats. The group is partially funded by millions of dollars from conservative groups like Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS and the Koch brothers’ Donors Trust."

"Romney avoids mentioning it, but Smith ran for president in 1844 as an independent commander in chief of an “army of God” advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government in favor of a Mormon-ruled theocracy. Challenging Democrat James Polk and Whig Henry Clay, Smith prophesied that if the U.S. Congress did not accede to his demands that “they shall be broken up as a government and God shall damn them.” Smith viewed capturing the presidency as part of the mission of the church. He had predicted the emergence of “the one Mighty and Strong” — a leader who would “set in order the house of God” — and became the first of many prominent Mormon men to claim the mantle"

"At BYU, he (Romney) was idolized by fellow students and referred to, only half jokingly, as the “One Mighty and Strong.””

John Fleming, GOP Congressman, Blasts Obama Over Buffett Rule: I Can't Afford A Tax Hike

Commented Sep 19, 2011 at 20:53:24 in Politics

“The Congressman should note that most people do not think that having a successful business is a vice. They do, however think that excessive greed is a vice and we see this evident in the downward trend over the last 40 years of the Labor Share of Output.

To business executives, "payroll" is a 4 letter word.
"Staying competitive" is just a buzzword for "wanting a bigger piece of the pie"

If you think that is hogwash, look at viable companies that don't have the disparity of income between its workforce and it's management or engage in profit sharing. There are companies that believe in Capitalism with a Conscience.

American's are tired of greedy politicians & business people claiming they care about anything other than lining their own pockets.

History shows that Republican party has not produced the outcomes so touted and in recent decades has been primarily responsible for the crisises it claims only it can fix.

Any reasonable person can see this Ayn Rand cult masquerading as the Republican party has been setting policies all along to create this circumstance knowing full well there is no simple solution and it will be easy to place blame on the current administration. GOP Candidates Revive Idea Of Privatizing Social Security

Commented Sep 18, 2011 at 10:43:01 in Politics

“"Brokerage houses, banks, and mutual funds have been very active in the campaign to privatize Social Security. Small wonder, since they stand to gain enormous fees if billions of dollars are shifted each year from Social Security payments into accounts under Wall Street management. Of course, those fees must come from somewhere, namely from the balances in individual accounts. University of Chicago economist Austan Goolsbee has calculated that
the costs of privately managed individual accounts are likely to reduce the ultimate retirement value of the accounts by 20 percent.13 He found that commissions, fees, and other costs would absorb nearly $1 trillion over seventy- five years—money that otherwise would go to beneficiaries.
