“Blog sites like this are moderated. Who moderates Side wikki comments? Why is it opt out not opt in? Why do I feel like they are hijacking websites? Bet the big guns will be able to remove the comments they don't like without having to involve the Siders. Also, makes me kind of want to make ridiculous comments but we know there are hackers and watchers who can trace it all.”

“How about if there is a test on American government for those seeking office. Similar to what is given to those who want to become citizens so that maybe some of our representatives know the Constitution from the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence. Then people who want to secede from the USA really know what that means, Todd P, and so they understand that when we vote, our votes count and our President is the president of all of us. And how about a contract for the term of service they got all that money to win, a "no quitters" clause.”

MarionWatts replied on Nov 17, 2009 at 18:48:52

“I agree wholeheartedly. At the same time, how about a test on American government and how it functions for some of the commentators here. I wonder how many would pass? And I'm wondering that as a progressive, myself.

“I am allergic to Thimerosal, the mercury that is/was in many vaccines, including the flu shot. How many others are "allergic" or have a reaction that has not been traced properly? Allergic to latex - adhesive on medical products (bandaids, EKG lead stickers, steri-strips) - penicillin - plastic , so many things.

One of the worst reactions for me is Iron Pills; I get cluster headaches. NOBODY BELIEVES ME! Doesn't make me wrong. But I am dismissed constantly by medical "experts".

Tylenol hurt my liver for years; told doctors and was laughed at - now Tylenol is known to cause liver damage in some.

Just because they don't listen doesn't make the reaction go away.”

Zipzop replied on Nov 13, 2009 at 14:05:15

“Tylenol is so dangerous and doctors treated me like I was crazy when I said to stop pumping Tylenol into my son after surgery to kill pain. He couldn't keep food down so the Tylenol was being mainlined to his liver in dangerous doses. Now the Tylenol stories are finally coming out. If you take one extra strength dose and your pain isn't gone after an hour, chances are you may want to take another dose. This is deadly dangerous but nobody is really warned about it like they should be.
I wonder how many out-of-court settlement hush money is spread out by the Tylenol people to keep the dangers of the drug quiet.”

“Stopped meditating because of foreseen events. Finally decided to "look at" what was scaring me. Total blackness, but light on the other side. Heard 2 distinct voices whispering I would be OK. OK from what? Got in an auto accident. Saw myself from above, outside my body. Knew in an instant this is what was predicted. Recovered over the course of a year.”

“If science incorporated more anecdotal information, maybe science would learn a thing or two. People have said, but science poo-pooed the idea that we have auras. The Japanese developed cameras that prove that humans give off visible light. Let science catch up to us!”

vorpalmusic replied on Nov 07, 2009 at 14:35:15

“Science makes mistakes sometimes obviously, but your idea that science should take into account anecdotal evidence is silly.

With anecdotal evidence we could "prove" that it rains the most on Tuesday and other completely false things. We could "prove" that drinking alcohol is good for your health because some alcoholics live to be 100. At the same time we could "prove" that alcohol is bad for you because some alcoholics die at 22.”

“Unrelated to BPA, yes, but get it out of your diet and then eat something with it: you will be shocked at how sick you will feel. Headache, heart racing, numbness across your neck and down your arms, coughing. Glutamate can be bad stuff.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glutamic_acid

It's the massive over chemicalization of our food and water that has a mounting effect on our health. PCB's, rat poison, minute traces of prescription drugs in the water supply. Thimerosal in our flu shots. Heck even too much tylenol can destroy your liver, but it's safe they kept saying. Till they find out it is harmful as it builds up in our bodies.”

Fighting Loan Modification Scams

Commented Oct 27, 2009 at 00:32:56 in Politics

“I worked for a loan modification company, they were legit, and it was free to homeowners. However, the banks refused to help in any significant way. Most of the people I worked with had medical bills or had lost a job, or both. $200 to300 off a month for 3 years would have kept families in their homes, and the bank could have extended the mortgage to cover the losses. $50 is the amount I saw, and that did nothing.

These banks must be making money off foreclosures in a way I don't quite understand. Yes, I know they get most of their interest up front in an amortized loan. And there is PMI insurance that must kick in. Do they also get to write it off differently than if they helped the homeowners catch up on the mortgage?

That HOPE line really has good people, and they are very helpful, I agree.”

pagebike replied on Oct 27, 2009 at 10:14:47

“Banks immediately sell their loans to Fannie Mae. They cash out the mortgage. That's how they made money. If the house forecloses, it doesn't matter to them really, because the government already bought the loan and the homeowner's payments are just monthly profit for the bank. When all else fails, as it did the last couple of years, the federal government comes in an underwrites the banks, to protect the "system" against property owners or the poor smucks.”

“It is hard for doctors, but it is terrifying for those of us who tell doctors about symptoms they dismiss and are not treated until they damn near kill us. LISTEN TO ME

Next, let's call out all the BS about things they DO tell us are OK, which turn out to be false. Examples?

Tylenol "doc, this hurts my stomach" "no it doesn't" Turns out that was my liver that got destroyed.

"Doc, shouldn't I be on a special diet for kidney failure?" "no, not for your particular disease" oh, now you tell me you will lose accreditation unless I talk with a dietitian at your facility - even though I saw my own dietitian starting 5 years ago - how do you think I stayed off dialysis all this time?

"Doc, I got chicken pox". "Adults don't get chicken pox" "Oh my, you have chicken pox"

"Doc I am tired and my throat hurts" "It's a cold, not mono" No, it's toxoplasmosis - found before they surgically removed my swollen neck glands.”

Second, you see no connection between industrial food distribution and obesity? Just like cigarettes had controlled amounts of the most addictive substance known, we now have empty calorie foods with sweet fatty and salty combinations that are tasty but never fill you up so you are always craving more; and you can't eat just one. You think anyone will outlaw Micky Dee's? Not in our lifetime.”

Obama's Shrewd Iran Policy

Commented Sep 27, 2009 at 23:01:15 in Politics

“I prefer to believe he herded them into a corral by not forcing a negotiation when he removed the missile threat because he already knew they would be taken by surprise when Iran's plans were exposed in public at the UN. Back room negotiations or public humiliation - I think above board surprises work better. They have no out. Kind of a "say what" moment!”

“When you want people to buy more of your product, you balance the ingredients with what "tastes" best with things that make you come back for more. High fructose corn syrup never truly satisfies your craving for something sweet, your hunger for it never shuts off. Same with certain fats and salts and glutamates. In other words, as I read it, most of this manufactured food is low cost addictive substance that starts you on the track of unfulfilled hunger. And it's shelf life is amazing. You just can't get natural foods to last that long! Just ask Jillian Michaels from Biggest Loser.”

“Poverty = obesity

Poor education = obesity

No one is saying the government has to tell people how to eat, but at least when we were poor, we got USDA food, not foodstamps to buy cheap food. Where are these poor people supposed to shop when there are no grocery stores withing walking distance - oh, you thought they could afford cars?

Fresh food vouchers are part of the WIC (women infants and children) program.

If you have no insurance you got nothing to lose. Christ - now there's a guy who made sure people got loaves and fishes”

AnotherAngle replied on Sep 19, 2009 at 17:33:42

“Unreal.

Now it's the cars. They can forget about ever being able to get a car too, because all of the cars they COULD HAVE bought have become useless scraps of metal .. aka "cash for clunkers". I can't even imagine how many lower income families are going to have to do without a vehicle now, because the only ones they could afford have been destroyed.

I have seen people in my neighborhood walk MILES to the grocery store with a metal cart on two wheels. God forbid they would have to walk somewhere.”
