“Interesting that the right wingers are calling names for selling out for money. Selling their vote to the highest bidder - or "election campaign" donor - has been GOP SOP for years! There is a reason so many spend so much to get elected - instant gravy train for life!

SInce our so-called elected representatives no longer listen to their constituents (unless in line with what the rep already wants) and listen too well to those with money, the only course is to talk to them in the only language they understand - VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE.”

“Since they can't run well on the issues, the right has to run on fear and emotions. As a poor statement on the US electorate, it often works (Bush, Bachman, others). For an insightful look at this practice, check out "The Power of Nightmares" a 3 1 hour miniseries from the BBC that came out during the Bush regime but (surprise, surprise) couldn't get into the US.”

“Liberty? He says he wants repubs that believe in liberty? Yet, they are putting out litmus tests that require candidates to follow the party line without question. They demand unquestioning loyalty (remember the 'loyalty oaths' to Bush rather than the Constitution??) Interesting definition of the term! As someone noted above, it sure sounds like the same path that was present in 1930's Germany.
The repub leaders moving too far left?? How far right will be enough for these folks?

“In theory, correct. The poor and, increasingly, the middle class, will have to bear the young if they can't afford an abortion on their own, the rich always have options. Interesting is the lack of talk about how to promote methods to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies. Also, missing is the talk about how to promote good prenatal care to reduce the number of pregnancies that get into trouble.”

“What the bank is doing and its reaction, is just another example of why I describe this as the most Un-American response to a national crisis I have ever seen. Almost every time in the past, when the country has faced a crisis, people, companies, political parties came together to deal with the problem. Not this time. This time it is all about "me". The banks make more money foreclosing a mortgage than helping people out, they are not loaning out the recovery act loan money because they can't make enough profit doing it, then they raise interest rates to maximize their profit. All of which only makes the problem worse. Employers are driving employees harder to keep productivity high with fewer employees. Political parties fight each other, not with trying to come up with the best solution, often not even offering a solution of their own, but only trying to gain political points.
Nobody is looking at the big picture and responding with a 'what's best for all of us, how can we all win" only with "what's best for me". A selfish and Un-American response that will only continue to hurt the country as a whole.”

They complain that Pres Obama doesn't represent 'traditional American values', yet we just had 8 years of secrecy, warrentless wiretapping, a VP that basically declared himself outself outside the reach of the law, a new 'litmus' test for purity that fits a fascist philosophy to a T, and members who lie through their teeth without hesitation. They have redefined 'American values" to something that most of us and the majority of the founding fathers couldn't recognize. Sadly, they have lost the ability and will to question what their party leaders and media talking heads tell them.”

Fascists advocate the creation of a single-party state, with the belief that the majority is unsuited to govern itself through democracy and by reaffirming the benefits of inequality. Fascist governments forbid and suppress openness and opposition to the fascist state and the fascist movement. Wikipedia

“Usually, during a crisis, Americans from all walks of life come together for the support and betterment of all. Not this time. We see the banking industry, which is largely responsible for creating this mess, demanding rescue then selfishly hoarding. That describes what they value.

Whatever belief system you have, it is defined by your day to day actions and decisions. When you repeatedly make decisions that are based in selfishness and greed, then that is your belief system, or, in other words, your god. So, yes, I think Stern is accurate in observing that the likes of G-S and others worship the almighty dollar, or, as I describe it, the God of Profit, commonly known as the GOP. Profit trumps people.”

“Capitalism usually implies that I have a product that you need or want, I sell it to you and make a bit of a profit, we both win. What has happened here is that greed has taken over so that only the few at the top 'win', usually at the expense of everyone else losing. Unregulated capitalism driven by selfishness and greed, a recipe for failure.”

Nuyorican21 replied on Nov 09, 2009 at 17:28:09

The lack of a strong manufacturing base will result in a much more difficult recovery.

The banks need to start loaning out the money that was made available for the specific purpose of helping the recovery (so far they are handing it out with tweezers, reportedly because they can't make enough profit doing it).

Last, but not least, we need a Congress that is more interested in promoting the recovery for the entire country more than pushing a political agenda or supporting only specific small groups.”

"Change Is Hard": Obama A Year After Election

Commented Nov 02, 2009 at 10:56:37 in Politics

“Of course, change is hard, and the only one that likes change is a wet baby. Remember that Obama is faced not only with the usual right - left issues, but an organized, almost fanatical, right wing effort to prevent or slow any successes from the Obama administration, regardless of how any of those changes would benefit the country.”

BabblingBrooks replied on Nov 02, 2009 at 11:15:20

“The conservative citizens are not organized by Republicans--the Republican Party is the one that has tried to go wishy-washy moderate. It's Obama and the left wing versus the people.”

hhayden replied on Nov 02, 2009 at 11:07:13

“The changes will not benefit the country, just big government.

And will Obama take up the slack for all the philanthropic things big corporations do? We wouldn't need tax breaks if they didn't take so much money in the first place. They do what they do with the schools and many other things - take our money, waste a lot and dribble a little back with strings and expect us to be grateful. Now they want to do that to health care. The government option should only take up a couple of pages, so what are the other couple of thousand about? We will not find out what their real motive is until after it is passed.”
