“Actually the crazy thing is that Apple, despite the high prices, is doing pretty well in this economy. Their stock prices are basically stable. It goes up or down very rarely and when it does it's a small change. In this economy that's saying a lot. Also their prices are going down. The problem is that with such a small market share the prices have to be higher to cover the expenses of designing/­making/mar­keting/sup­porting the product and make a profit. But as their market share increases, which it is, their prices will continue going down, which they have been.”

“The average price of a bushel of corn in the 1940's was $2.00 a bushel, and today at my local elevator it is up to the whopping price of $3.25 a bushel. These "subsidies" that you so disdain keep the food you buy in the grocery store affordable. Subsidies don't make farmers rich, they keep farmers just enough above water to keep producing so that the United States doesn't end up buying even more commodities from foreign markets. It's called "the balance of trade" and it has a very direct impact on the welfare of you and your family. You have to realize that in many cases subsidies are really price supports that don't even kick in unless the bottom drops out of the market. Many times a farmer may sign up for a subsidy and never see a dime.”

No offense, but it's pathetic that back in the 30's people who didn't live on the farm understood the nature and intent of farm subsidies, but today there is almost total ignorance on the subject. RIght now you are in very real danger of having to buy your milk and dairy products from a foreign country where animal rights, medication administration to animals, processing and packaging do not meet USA standards. In other words you could end up buying milk and cheese from cows given antiobiotics while they are being milked, or as an example from Mexico where DDT is still used to spay around livestock. Is that what you want???? Sure, the USDA tells us that foreign products have to meet certain standards but we don't even have enough inspectors to meet our own needs let alone check on products coming from foreign countries. Food safety is a source of pride amongst the American farmer and we are about to throw it away.”
