“Um...Have you been to Sweden? I have, three times. Was offered a job there and seriously considered it. It's a great place, largely wealthy and genteel. Low poverty rate, much higher rate of social mobility (don't trust me, look up some numbers) than here. MUCH higher.

Try again.”

“So, let's see: 1) you haven't seen any of the democratic convention (I didn't see much, but clearly you missed a thing or two) & 2) you didn't see any of the reporting that went on during it or in the week after & 3) you're afraid (or think I should be) of George Soros & think he runs the democratic party?

Here's a clue sport: your talking points do not match the facts on the ground & who runs your party then, Sauron?

“"My question is, why is it an advantage to be underage?"

Well, mebbe if you'd done *any* research (like reading two posts below your own) you might know the answer to that question.

"Otherwise, stop whining and open up the competition to ANY age. Why shouldn't a 14 year old be able to compete?"

Gee, and think of all the labor we're losing not having 14 year olds work 16 hour days in factories & sweatshops too. Hell, those little fingers are good at detail work--help us keep up with the Chinese on productivity.

But, for the most part, you're completely wrong. Money drives everything. The banality of evil. It's not about winning, it's not about idology, it's not about hurting someone or helping someone. It's about making a few bucks & it doesn't matter what the consequences are. “Dude--

I agree with everything you say except: "Overpopulation could also affect the earth's weight and therefore change physical dynamics of a few things like spin and gravity. Without humans the earth's weight is pretty static," which is either a joke, a subversion, or a fundamental mis-understanding of the situation.

There are five billion and change more humans alive today than, say, 300 years ago. Yet their combined weight has not, I'm certain, affected the overall mass of the earth by a single pound, why do you think that might be?

As a further exercise for the student, there is at least one factor that is increasing the weight of the earth & at least two that are certainly decreasing it. Briefly explain these factors.”

StephenJK replied on Jul 28, 2008 at 03:04:58

“Your assertion that all the humans in the world do not affect the overall mass of the earth by one pound. Nothing can really affect the earth's mass unless we started shipping massive (thousands of tons) amounts of rock into space. As I said before it's pretty static. What I am talking about is weight distribution over the surface. I don't study physics but, I would be willing to bet that if you took a scaled-down and relative model you would find some real whacky things going on with (especially) spin and the orbital path. Then you have a whole NEW set of problems when you have anomolized the spin and orbital trajectory. How does it affect the sun, moon and other planets? How does it affect us? What do you know about axis "wobble"? Has it increased with the amount of people in the world today? Do you disagree that if present pop numbers keep up that eventually the weight really WILL be too much for the earth to bare? Because humans ARE adding disproportionate amounts of weight on the surface of the earth at very fine points. Metropolitan areas are what I'm talking about. And my theory is not a joke unless you prove it to be. Your move.”

“I didn't get the fat human factor either. But I did get the gross overuse of natural resources, that we've got to change, and that Hillary wrote one damn good article. So what do we do about it?”

LadyXoc replied on Jul 27, 2008 at 12:35:33

“Let's see: Meteors, cosmic dust, etc. hitting the earth will add weight. Loss of ozone will subtract from it. Space junk will subtract from it. Increased population results in more global warming, hence a possible subtraction from the earth's weight.
A warning: Since most of the earth's population will probably end up in Asia, the earth could be overbalanced on that side, leading to it rotating weirdly, possibly toppling out of orbit and getting captured by the sun......Eek!”

“So when, in the last 60+ years, have you seen *anybody,* armed with *anything* take on the US military and/or police and do anything but DIE?

Yes, enough armed people may make "them" think twice (which, I think primarily means they will bring plenty of firepower), but it won't do us a damned bit of good if push comes to shove.

FIghting the government on their own terms would have been like the minutemen going toe to toe with the redcoats--we were smarter than that 230 years ago.”

-------------end quote--------

Vietnam is unified under communist rule because some Vietnamese communists stood up and slugged it out with the US military till the folks back home got sick of it and ended that war leaving them in charge.

In the 1980s the US military was chased out of Lebannon by a militia force which was willing to use suicide truck bombs.

Likewise we were chased out of Somalia by militia forces with light arms.

Currently we are being forced to spend totally unsustainable amounts of money and equipment in what is clearly a vain hope of imposing a vague approximation of a puppet government in Iraq.

Any delusion you have that the US military is impossible to beat is just that.”
