Increased Violence Against Women Causing 'Definite Backlash' Against Equality: UN

“Due to the lack of proper training for police officials, there is the allowance of males to abuse women because they can simply get away with it. Yes, authorities often know about the violence against women, but do not follow appropriate procedures because they think females somehow deserve the abuse. In addition to this, the deficiency of education for women continues the cycle of having a patriarchal society. When women are more educated they are more likely to lead lives that are inherent to human dignity.”

“I find it extremely sad that only half of the cases go through prosecution. It just shows that authoritarian figures as well as law officials are not implementing the law towards males. This is usually because women, especially those involved in sex-trafficking are not considered to be human. Rather sex-trafficking dehumanizes women's and young girl's souls. Although some of the statistics have gotten better for following the minimum standards, it does not mean that there does not need to be improvement towards these standards. It is important to educate these regions about the detrimental effects of human trafficking. I also think that more states' governments need to sign and ratify UN human rights mandates. If the government starts to enforce laws, there may be more lives saved.”
