A Response to Joe Klein
Commented Dec 21, 2009 at 08:44:42 in Politics
“Klein is not a credible source and is simply one of Pavlov Obama's dogs who salivates support of Obama when Obama rings the cowardly, deficit-meteoring, depression -sustainin g bell while he would have condemned war criminal Bush for taking the same action. The US has now become the military face of the internatonal, illegal drug traffic. The brutal corrupt Afghan drug-pusherocracy that just stole an election that exists because of US troops is actually a coalition of drug lords more interested in becoming fabulously wealhy by expanding the drug trade than in anything else. Perhaps we should change the name of our military units from the "Screaming Eagles" to the "Pablo Escobar Cocaine Batallion". Instead of the 82nd Airborne we could have "the Stoners". Obama has given US troops the dishonorable mission of fighting to expand the illegal drug trade represented by the drug-pusherocracy that cost us and is costing us American lives and limbs and depression -sustainin g resources that meteorically escalate the deficit.
The vast majority of Afghan patriots (male and female, fundamentalist and secular) have a position similar to what most American patriots wouid have if a brutal, corrupt, drug-pusherocracy were imposed on us by a powerful foreign government -- they oppose the drug-pusherocracy and the foregners who created it and are fighting to get rid of it, even though they are geometrically weaker militarily and economically than we are and pose no threat to our security.
The US Military Mission - Protect Drug Pushers.”

The Health Bill, The Price of Everything, and What to Do Next
Commented Dec 20, 2009 at 10:09:13 in Politics
“The really funny thing about all this is the Republicans are not attempting to defeat this Bill. They are attempting to appear as if they are trying to defeat this Bill. The Republicans are just as bribed by the Big Pharma drug pushers and the health insurers as Obama and the Democrats of both Houses. However the drug pushers and the health insurers know if this Bill appeared at all bi-partisan it could not have been as anti-middle class and pro drug-pusher and health insurer as the Senate Bill is.
What we're seeing is an orchestrated effort to make it appear the Republicans oppose this so it looks as if 60 Senate Dems are required to pass something like this or it would get even worse. That's impossible. If any of the bribed Democrats or even the bribed Independent Socialist Bernie Sanders actually would oppose it and join the Republican so-called filibuster, we would magically see as many Republicans as necessary suddenly bolt the party and vote for it. The right Democrat/left Democrat thing is also scripted so bribed liberals can appear reasonable when they cave in because bribed conservative Dems are caving in.
Even funnier, the drug pushers and health insurers would not be dismayed if the House Bill passed also. Congress passed two pro drug pusher, pro health insurer Bills, and although the health insurers and drug pushers prefer the Senate Bill, they'd be willing to accept the despicable House Bill also.”

A Rebuttal to Howard Dean: I Am a U.S. Senator, and I Will Vote For This Bill
Commented Dec 20, 2009 at 03:04:50 in Politics
“One of the very few good things about the health care debate is it exposed the Democrats for their outright corruption. (Everyone knows the Republicans are the servants of the corporatio ns.) Paul Kirk proved he's simply a corrupt servant of the drug pushers of Big Pharma when he voted against the Dorgan Amendment that would have allowed re-importation of drugs -- something that would lower the cost of drugs by tens of billions of dollars for those who cannot afford the outrageous prices artificially set by the drug pushers. The only reason to vote against drug re-importation -- and there really is only one reason -- is because you're on-the-take. Lautenberg, Menendez and always-has -his-hand- out Chris Dodd are all liberals who voted against the Dorgan Amendment and are obviously, along with Obama, on-the-take.
So of course crooked Kirk is piling on Dean because Dean is demanding that a true health care reform compromise be passed and is honest enough to admit that ObamaBigPh armaDrugIn surerCare should be killed because it offers no reform in that it empowers and enriches the health insurers and drug pushers, forcing people to purchase bad policies for uncontrolled prices and taxes the middle class.

Left/Right Populist Outrage Will Defeat Senate Health Care Bill
Commented Dec 19, 2009 at 04:18:04 in Politics
“I certainly hope Jane is right, but I doubt it. The reason I doubt it is I think there are no principles involved here on the part of the Dems -- it is all about bribery. The drug pushers of Big Pharma and the health insurers have simply guaranteed every single Democrat huge campaign contributions and personal financial gain for the rest of their lives if Obamanoncare passes. That's why Rahm says don't worry about the left. He knows the left, even Sanders, is bought and will use the fact that poor health care will be afforded at astronomically high prices to 30 million more American to justify this huge, never-ending part welfare subsidy, part forced-premium subsidy to Big Pharma and the health insurers with drug re-importation, public option and Medicare expansion out of the Bill.
Ben Nelson is just posturing. He would vote for this Bill if it included a government operated, forced-abo rtion-afte r-one-chil d procedure paid for by the government of Nebraska because Big Pharma and the health insurers want it passed. He is wholly owned by them and is simply following the script. By making it appear that the "right Democrats" oppose the Bill but will vote for it, it puts more pressure on "left Democrats" to drop their so-called opposition to pass this despicable, corrupt piece of garbage. The reason the Republicans appear united against it is they knew if it was bi-partisan nothing this backwards could have passed.”

Please, Cut Obama Some Slack

“All of us want to cut Obama some slack. He gave us the audacity of hope. All he has to do is earn it. His mistakes are colossal mistakes -- mistakes that make him to be one of Pavlov's dogs salivating to support every whim the financial insitutions, military-industrial complex and illegal private army of mercenaries.
His surrogates are allowing the bad (Obama's health care deform bill) to be the ally of the corrupt and misrepresenting the opposition of knowledgeable progressives like Howard Dean as making the perfect be the enemy of the good. The current Senate (and House) Bill is not "the good" and no one is asking for "the perfect" (single-payer, quality, affordable, universal health care).
Defeat Obamacare. It makes the unacceptable (what we have now) to appear like "the good" in comparison to the changes it mandates. (It allows health insurers and the drug pushers of Big Pharma to get subsidies for providing poor health insurance while they can reduce benefits, raise premiums, raise co-shares, raise co-pays, raise deductibles and raise drug prices with no controls. At the same time this horrible bill taxes workers for maintaining moderately decent health insurance by sacrificing tens of thousands of dollars each in wage increases in order to have moderately decent health insurance and mandates everyone to opt in without forcing the insurance to provide quality coverage or fixed, low rates whether they can afford it or not.”

“Sharrod Brown, Sheldon Whitehouse and Russ Feingold sold out on this deal. Harkin is going to try to challenge the filibuster. If that doesn't work, he'll probably support the Bill. It seems the only progressive left in the Senate might be Burris from Illinois. He appears to be willing to join the Republicans and send this despicable so-called health care reform bill into oblivion, where it belongs. Even self-defined independent socialist Bernie Sanders is unclear whether he'll filibuster. Ron Wyden tried to sneakily oppose the public option by claiming competition is the real issue -- ignoring that Big Pharma and the health insurers will set high premiums, etc and compete at unaffordable premium levels.
Lieberman can't defeat the public option or expansion of Medicare alone. The drug pushers of Big Pharma and the health insurers knew they owned the Democratic Senate and that despite the fact there are 60 Democratic Senators, over 250 Democrats in the House and a right-wing Democratic President posing as a progressive, they could defeat a powerful public option and expansion of Medicare through bribery -- also getting subsidies while remaining able to raise premiums, deductibles, cost-sharing, co-pays and drug prices with no controls. They knew the purchased Dems would demonize a willing Lieberman while they wouldn't reconcile or reduce filibuster numbers and win.
Lieberman didn't defeat a progressive public option providing quality universal health care. Obama, Pelosi, Reid so-called progressive Dems and the Republicans defeated it.

“Hi.
I've seen your posts many times, respect you and usually agree. Here's my question. Just prior to invading Iraq, the anti-war movement all over the world conducted massive demonstrations internationally. I'm an old fart, a longtime movement activfist going back to the labor, civil rights and peace movements of the 60s, although just a foot soldier. The size of the demonstrations against invadng Iraq were larger than anything we put together to protest he Vietnam War, even after a decade of demonstrating.
It's obvious that Obama is bought and so is the Democratic Congress -- just as bought as the Republicans. In addition to demonstrations, what else do we do? Despite the fact the overwhelming intellgence at the tme of the invasion of Iraq proved that Saddam had no WMDs (Blix was searching based on CIA reports and finding nothing and it was public knowledge), the invasion took place anyway.
Obama's domino theory is even more dishonest and untrue than the WMDs or the Japan-will-go-red if South Vietnam falls of Vietnam days.. He says if US troops don't protect the Afghan drug-pusherocracy we put there and the Taliban win, al Qaeda will get Pakistan's nukes. That's laughable and wholly untrue. Based on that he's made US troops and contractors the cutting edge defending drug pushers, opposing the desire of the Afghan people to rid themselves of the corrupt, brutal drug-pusherocracy.”

Wall St. will get richer and richer as Americans in general get poorer and poorer. And that will just produce even more billions to support the nonstop neocon propaganda machine. In the 80s, the Wall St. fat cats basically strip-mined American industry, buying up companies in order to break them up, send their workers to the poor house, and sell anything of value in the company for scrap. Then, in the 90s, they Madoffed the dumb masses with "the dot.com bubble." Then, recently, they Madoffed the dumb masses yet again with their Ponzi scheme of mortgage derivatives. The rich get richer while the poor get angrier, all channeled into support for neocons and Likud in the end. You can't argue with success.”

Obama's strategy of getting the Afghan people and the Europeans to die and get maimed in order to strengthen a brutal, corrupt, drug-pusherocracy in a country that poses no threat to the US or Europe even if the Taliban win can only work in the minds of the Poison Ivy League wrong group-think commander-in-chief and the always-wrong, teenage wannabe testoseroner military brass and their illegal private army contractor allies -- all of whom make a large fortune out of escalation and keeping the killing and injuries going.
This needs to be put into the hands of the adults -- the "out-now-safely" crowd that was right on Vietnam and Iraq. As stupid as continuing in Vietnam and Iraq was and as harmful it was to young Americans and Vietnamese and Iraqis alike, Obama's Afghanistan strategy is even more dishonest, anti-American and dumber. Additionally, Obama is dishonoring American soldiers by ordering them to fight, kill, die, maim and get maimed to strengthen a brutal, corrupt drug pusheroceracy opposed by nearly all patriotic Afghans.

“Excelent article. I'm glad there are still some progressives left. Listening to Air America we find Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz turning into warmongerers, supporting Obama's cowardly, barbaric decision to escalate. Stephanie also now opposes the public option by supporting whatever pro-health insurers, pro drug-pushers (Big Pharma) plan Obama and the 60 Democratic Senate and 250+ Democratic House puts forward on health care, acting like one of Pavlov's dogs salivating out her pro-Obama drivel and attacking progressives who oppose Obama's backwardness.
Yeah, it looks as if we have a full-fledged liberal Democratic war -- just like Vietnam. Both parties are horrible.”

“You (and Arlen) are right; The "domino theory" is an old fearmongerers trick of national leaders and the military to justify astronomical deficit spending, depression -causing-a nd-sustain ing spending on wars against those who lack the ability to threaten US security. (Remember Grenada and Iraq?) Domino theory put forward by teenage-wannabe testoseroner military brass and the political servants of the military-industrial complex (Presidents and Congresspeople of both parties) says something dire will happen to the US if we don't make the depression -sustainin g expenditures immediately.
In Vietnam the dishonest "domino theory" put forward was that if South Vietnam fell, all Asia, including Japan, would fall to communism one-by-one -- like "dominos" -- if we withdrew from South Vietnam. So instead of pulling out in 1963, we escalated from 800 advisors when Eisenhower left office to over 545,000 troops under LBJ -- 50,000+ dead US kids, hundreds of thousands of American kids wounded and millions of Vietnamese killed and wounded for the same result, and not even Thailand went communist after South Vietnam fell.
Obama's "domino theory" is even more stupid and dishonest. He says that al Qaeda will get Pakistan's nukes if the Taliban drives out the drug-pusherocracy we created with hundreds of billions of depression -sustainin g dollars and 9 years of dead and maimed young Americans. That's laughable and impossible.
The Taliban would pose no threat to US security if they did drive out the drug pusherocracy.”

“Americans must objectively look at what we are asking of the Afghans -- to fight and die and get maimed to strengthen a corrupt, greedy drug pusherocracy that just stole an election and only marginally treats women better than the Taliban treats them. The Founding Fathers, given the same option, would have fought to overthrow the drug pusherocracy and worried later about reforming the winning side. So the Europeans do as little militarily as they can.
Only Americans could buy: (1) Afghanistan under the Taliban, geometrically weaker than the US militarily and economically than the U.S., are a threat to our national security; and (2) the new, stupider domino theory that al Qaeda will get Pakistan's nukes when the Taliban drives out the drug pusherocracy we put in place after hundreds of billions of depression -causing- and-susta ining dollars and 9 bloodshed years; Obama is asking Afghans to fight and die and be maimed for the drug pusherocracy most historical progressives and patriots from US history would have fought to throw out. Now we see Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Bob Cesca, most of HuffPo, etc. pushing to support Obama's barbaric war even though they would have rightfully opposed a similar W. strategy. Bottom line these phony progressives are willing to sacrifice the military members of my family for Democrats' corrupt, anti-American interests barbarity, but not for Republican's corrupt, anti-American interets barbarity. Progressives say neither.
So long as Obama believes he can meet with the leaders of progressive organizations and maintain the support of progressives, he will continue to escalate, to support taxing workers' health insurance, support bailing out the financial institutions that caused the depression, etc. while making eloquent, idealistic speeches and keeping the military "don't ask, don’t tell".
We must end support of Obama so he knows he'll lose next time. Let the sectarian, stupid Obamaniacs scream at us, but progressives must stop saying they support Obama but oppose his policies. He's too cynical and corrupt to care. He's another corrupt butcher, like his predecessor. “It's fearmongering to say the Taliban got within 50 miles of the capital as if they posed a threat to the government. At one point a small continent of militants -- no threat at all to the government -- got within 50 miles of the capital. The Pakistani military then drove them back and continued a successful offensive against them.
The Europeans don't contribute more than token support because they know Obama's strategy, and Bush's before him, is wholly BS and the Taliban pose no threat to anyone but people who want to continue war to benefit their own personal corruption, either with the drug pusherocracy, the military-industrial complex, the criminal private merc armies wholly paid for by US taxpayers or some combination of all 3.
Your scenario is wholly at odds with the facts and is designed to justify Obama's escalation. I remember those like you making the same arguments for remaining in Vietnam and/or Iraq. It's false, paranoid fearmongering.
Immedate, safe withdrawal of all US troops and contractos for Iraq and Afghanistan. It is that simple.”

“It isn't that simple. The world isn't as simple as you see it. "The Taliban are no threat to anyone"--do you really believe that? That "small contingent" of militants (hundreds of fighters according to Al Jazeera) took effective control of an area with a population of almost 1 million, the local police forces having fled. It sounds like they found the Taliban kind of threatening. Find me one credible source that says the Pakistani government is not in danger of collapse, and I'll find you 10 that say it is. Whether the Taliban would be able to take advantage of the ensuing chaos is a different question, but it is a real risk.
I'm not justifying Obama's escalation. I don't profit from drug pushing, military-industrial contracts, nor am I a private mercinary. In fact, I want very much for us to withdraw from Afganistan. I wish we had never invaded and did not support the war from the start. That said, once you make the mistake of starting a war, you should still be careful how you end it. I don't believe Bush wanted to prolong the war in Afganistan; he wanted to win it and leave but failed to do so. And I don't believe Obama wants to escalate the war to make money for war profiteers. They make more profit from short, gadget-intensive wars, then from protracted personnel-intensive wars. That's why Iraq was more appealing to Cheney/Rumsfeld and why they resisted the surge.”

“Obama has created a whole new "domino theory" lie to augment his original "big lie" (war of necessity).
First, the "war of necessity" lie is as big a lie to justify escalation in Afghanistan as WMDs was when Bush was selling invading Iraq. As we all know, no Afghans attacked us at 9/11 and the Taliban offered to hand over bin Laden to a neutral third country. Afghanistan is geometrically weaker than we are economically and militarily and the Taliban are no threat to us. The Europeans know this and have less than half of the number of troops we have there and no contractors even though the European Union has a population 100,000,000+ greater than ours and a larger economy and is supposedly as committed to this as we are. Canada is already withdrawing.
The second lie Obama is telling is that somehow when the Taliban drives out the corrupt drug pusherocracy we have left there after 8 years of depression -sustainin g expenditures, al Qaeda will get Pakistan's nukes. That's a more BS domino theory than the Vietnam one (all Asia will fall one-by-one like "dominos" to communism if South Vietnam fell, including Japan turning red.) That was always BS and untrue, but Obama's "al Qaeda will get Pakistan's nukes if the Taliban wins is even dumber and more dishonest.
The only sane policy is immediate, safe withdrawal of all US troops and contractors from Iraq and Afganistan.”

I wish we'd never invaded Afganistan. But I think leaving will not make the Taliban go back to Afganistan and leave Pakistan alone. The Pakistani government ceded the Swad valley and the Taliban tried to take the capital. I don't know if the strategy in Afganistan will work or if any strategy would. But I do not believe that Obama is escalating this war to fund the military-industrial complex; to get cheap oil; nor to spread "Democracy ." I think he is trying to prevent an easily foreseeable catastrophe (a catastophe that is well underway) from befalling one of our nuclear-armed allies.
There is no obviously right answer in Afganistan. Whatever we do will result in horrible bloodshed. You may be right that withdrawing is the least wrong answer but it's simplistic to say that it's the only sane policy and that any other approach is based on lies.”

“Al Qaeda will not get Pakistan's nukes, but the Taliban might. It is not a lie to say that the Taliban has made a big incursion into Pakistan territory, at one point getting within 50 miles of the capital. This isn't the domino theory it's what's already happening now. Pakistan is our ally and they are being invaded. If a European ally were invaded would support American intervention? If so, what's the difference? What is the point of having allies if they won't help you repel an invasion? Unfortunately, this is an invasion combined with a civil war, in that some Pakistanis support the Taliban. Nonetheless, this isn't some hypothetical situation, the government of Pakistan could easily fall to the Taliban. It's a weak government which does not have the full loyalty of its armed forces.”

“The European Union has a population roughly 100,000,000 greater than the US and a larger economy. It supplies less than half the troops in Afghanistan though it claims to be as committed as we are. The US already has nearly 136,000 military in Afghanistan (68,000 troops and 68,000 wholly US taxpayer paid private, mercenary contractors) and is about to add another 60,000 military (30,000 troops and 30,000 contractors). This is to be paid for, so far, by astronomical increases in the US deficit -- depression -sustaini ng resources. When we ask the Europeans for 10,000 more troops (and no contractor forces compared to our added 60,000) they wisely refuse.
Obama has little care for the facts of this. He ignores the stealing of the Afghan election by the drug pusherocracy we support. He ignores the failure of our so-called allies to seriously commit troops and resources on an equal basis to us. He ignores that the Taliban would not allow Afghanistan to be used by AQ to launch attacks against the US and Europe because it has already experienced shock and awe and doesn't want it again. Obama makes up new domino theories -- AQ will get Pakistan's nukes if the Taliban win in Afghanistan. And he ignores that a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan is geometrically weaker than we are economically and militarily -- no threat to us whatsoever.

The one departure from Bush is that he forced the DOD to come up with an exit strategy as part of the overall plan.
