Braving Black Friday: Risking Life And Limb For A Deal?

Braving Black Friday: Risking Life And Limb For A Deal?

Commented Nov 27, 2009 at 16:00:36 in Living

“I have never been part of the frenze shopping for a deal either. At times in my life of poverty when I needed items such as clothes and did not have the funds, I always found what I needed at shops known as fretex which recycle clothing and other items at perhaps 1% of the original costs. So I well know it is possible to dress warmly and clean with only survival monies. Perhaps that 1% of the original cost is actually what the workers were paid when they produced the products.

The rush for a deal is very much of a social tragedy where the items so lusted after are most often now produced in third world countries where the survival income is 200 dollars a year and items produced in sweat shops with children working 12 hours daily for a dollar.
The ethical and moral borders of humans inhumanity to humans and vast thoughtlessness breaks new borders in the 21century.

And when the customers walk out with their so sought after deal, they go home feeling they really were economicly clever and smart and not realizing just what system they each are helping perpetuate.

Though it is individual choice and each must live with themselves if not today then eventually.”

“Dear Norge,

I so love your thoughtful comment!

I wonder about those who leave their families on Thanksgiving to go get in line at the local Wal-Mart for the shopping extravaganza. Some people started lining up on Tuesday. Isn't this missing the point of giving?

Just shows how far we've strayed. Thanks for your voice of reason at a time when those voices are drowned out by the sounds of "Welcome K-Mart shoppers......."

Best,
Judith”

There are no gods or devils on battlefields and there never has been. There are only very very sick human beings who have deliberatly been formed that way for the benifit of certain special interests. It is the way it has been during all of human history.

You are correct, I do not listen much anymore to the absurdity of the human condition on earth. To a human society which spends over 1 trillion dollars per year each year for death and distruction.”

I do not see the church as the problem, I see those beating the pulpit for revenge, those who have not really read their good book with a bit more understanding than the inquisitors as the real problem. Incidently, 9/11 was also about revenge from the other side which stimulated the response.

“SonofLiberty1,

And whatever happened to that "Ex.order" he signed? Is it in the national ark.?

Incidently, the guy who operated Vietnam was a guy named McMacnemara. And there was a coolition of the will there also which included Australia, South Korea (the Rocks) as they were then known and others catagorized as "Advisers".

McMcnamera later wrote his horrible grief for what he was responsible for in a book titled "The Fog of War". And apologized for how tragicly wrong he had been and never did stand trial for war crimes.”

It is not surprising that America went to war as after 9/11 the vast majority were in what seemed at the time to be a form of "Collective Psychosis" simular to what the mind set was at the time of the hostage crisis with Iran.

It is some times also refered to as caught in "Double Morality" which caused a type of catatonic behavior.
To humiliate a bumbling super power can have serious unspeakable consequences.”

“The America Kennedy believed in was buryed in the rice paddies of South VietNam. That America killed more than 2 and onehalf million people and wounded for life more than half a million. Distroyed millions of hectors of jungle with chemicals and caused the birth defects of children for the next several generations.
And none of the families affected have ever received compensation for the grief put on them by America.”

“Life styles which are "Chosen" helps people avoid the devestation of depressions. And those who are not able to choose where and how to live due to economic factors can improve their daily enviorments and put more joy into their lives by focusing on activities which they enjoy and give them energy and reduce those activities which drain energy from them.

Those with lives where few dreams have been realized and have reached the borders of hopelessness
are in need of drastic life style changes. At times the best one can do for oneself is simply, walk away and start new and more than likely the awful clouds of depression will dissapate to rains and a new and brighter day will arrive.”

The facade of ending the health insurance industry's antitrust exemption. The facade that will create a flawed public option that can be strengthened in the future.

If so, I prefer the facade over the real thing. I thank Speaker Pelosi, the President, the Democratic Party, and all those who signed on to this flawed, but historic bill.”

“When the pleasure center of the brain becomes so conditioned to certain stimuli, the changing of the behavior must first begin with the re-conditioning of the pleasure center which is more socially exceptable and less harmful to those so affected.

That can only come about with the full exceptance of the affected person. All humans are addicted to one or other substances or activity, some more harmfull than others and those addictions varie in intensity for everyone.”
