“I've always been convinced that coastal upstate ME is god's country. The light in summer is magical. Western MA is also lovely and a wonderful place to explore if you love American History. Upstate NY suffers from being in the same state is NYC; it is rural and beautful. Vermont, too, is a gem and rates high in health care happiness.”

“As a woman with a strongly male name (not Norm), I am unsurprised by James Chartrand's experience. When you walk through life with a man's name, the discrimination is obvious: I could have spent a career in an EEOC office. Women delude themselves in thinking they have achieved an equality that is at least as remote today as it was in the seventies and possibly more so. Women are routinely trivialized, but are blissfully unaware of it. Some of this we have done to ourselves with the help of Hollywood; we are more sexualized than ever. Some of it would exist anyway. I have known for many years that if I ever got it together to write a novel, for sure I would not let anyone know I was a woman. I have surprised too many on blogs, where posters, on discovering I was female, gave me the ultimate compliment: You write like a man.”

“I have done Home Health also. People receiving home health assistance on public monies currently get very little compared to private payers. Those providing assistance have their wages slashed in what is on-call employment, while large agencies charge clients almost twice their employees' salaries. States should find a way to direct-pay home health assistants instead of relying on agencies, as they currently do; enormous amounts of money could be saved.”
