“How about an apology for giving 1-trillion dollars to banks and CEOs when Cash-for-Clunkers has done more to stimulate the economy and auto industry than anything else? And how about an apology from the media who have hardly noticed that Cash-for-Clunkers might be the best economic brainstorm to come out of this administration yet? The $1-trillion 'Cash-for-Mortgages' went to banks who invested it and doled it out among themselves as bonuses. We haven't even gotten an ''Oops, sorry.''”

swimbiker replied on Aug 23, 2009 at 18:56:13

“Well, it WAS George Bush who did the TARP, giving money to banks and CEOs, so maybe you should go ask him for an apology.”

“Cash for Clunkers is a perfect example of how the government can get it right.

Not enough funding predicted and the program temporarily folds (funded at 1/3 actual cost).

600,000 used cars destroyed as they are traded in so the working poor can't buy them?

4 out of 5 of the best selling cars are foreign. No incentive to buy America first.

Some car dealerships almost bankrupted and having to opt out of the program because the government hasn't reimbursed them as promised.

These are the same people that want to run our health care.”

“Thanks Arianna for doing what you do. You, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, et al. are the guardians of our collective sanity. Spoiler alert: What I know about economics could be characterized as diddly-squat. Based on that, in the crudest terms, it seems the reason the bailout isn't big enough is because it's not fixing what was broken. The whole thing started to crumble when people couldn't pay their subprime loans (the ones predatory lenders rammed down their throats, BTW - everyone is in denial about that one, for sure). The only thing that is being done about mortgages is a suggested, voluntary program of restructuring and modifying those loans banks deem eligible. As if. Nothing is being done to fix the banking system and we all know that's the problem, those derivitive thingies and default swappery-isms and malfeasant parchment waste baskets. If however people could pay down those bad loans and had disposable income of $200 or $300, say, at the end of the month, this economy would be stimulated nicely. Fixing, or trying to fix the banks first seems to be putting the cart before the horse.”

Commented Nov 14, 2008 at 21:01:50 in Media

“Thank you, Eric. It's time somebody draws attention to MSM's coddling of Limbaugh, a fear-mongering, hate-ist. Lately he is behaving like the rabid drug addict he is, ranting apoplectically and barely connecting two sentences coherently, throwing anything up against the wall....And BTW, Anderson Cooper thinks Palin is ''very capable.'' There are no bigger media whores than the media. Thanks, again.”

Krankil replied on Nov 15, 2008 at 12:27:13

“Anderson Cooper has no interest in Palin disappearing for being astonishly stupid. He loses customers when there is no controversy. more than 60% in this country are ignorant, so if he convinces 50% of them that she's smart, he wins. And they have to believe him because he looks smart.
Paul Bagala himself who's REALLY smart said on Bill Maher that she's not stupid, she's just ignorant. I'm glad that Bill clarified the difference : Isn't being ignorant at 44 in a job you chose to do means STUPID

They all want a 50-50 country. They see it as a game, like 2 rival footbal teams and in the process they keep people interested, ratings go up and therefore more money. The american people keeps hurting. We need a strong 3rd party. And the media would never give it to us. We need to build it ourselves”

Michelle Obama's Dress: In Defense Of Her Decision

Commented Nov 05, 2008 at 16:03:11 in Style

“Helpful Fashion Tip #2: A huge splotch of red on your stomach draws attention and makes you look broad as a barn. The dress in Michelle's size did not translate, only made the red blotch bigger. The addition of a slip and sweater, nods to ''proper dressing for a lady,'' destroyed the entire look and feel of the original dress which was quite stunning. It turned a stylish cocktail dress into a schmatta. Suggest her stylist invest in a Polaroid camera and have a fitting and/or dress rehearsal for major public functions. Michelle looks better when she picks out her own clothes online from J Crew.”

Olive replied on Nov 05, 2008 at 17:21:46

“We're all allowed a fashion mistake now and then.

It's probably an attractive, unique dress in person, but it didn't work on T.V. The tailoring to make it more modest had the effect of making the dress unflattering and the sweater cuts her just where her waistline narrows.

I like Michelle's bold taste and I look forward to watching her great style evolve. I'm impressed that she mixes expensive with chain store - most women with young children don't want to run around in couture all day.”

“Maybe part of the problem is McCain can't/won't use the Internet and Palin can't/won't listen to news reports because her handlers think she'd get too depressed. Plus, there's nowhere left for Mc Cain and Palin to go, they've painted themselves into a corner. In Palin's case, it's hard to imagine her not being divisive.”

“My problem is with the line: "You're much hotter in person.'' Agreed, Sarah Palin is ''hot,'' to which I'll add beautiful and charismatic, which is no less than expected of a beauty contestant. To her credit she has stayed hot twenty years and five children later. That's not easy. However, ''Her Royal Hotness'' is inciting mass hatred, fear and violence on a daily basis, while playing oblivious to the effect she is having. If she weren't so ''hot,'' to men and women both on varying levels, people would not be shouting ''kill him'' nor hanging an effigy of the likely next president of the United States in their backyard. The line: "You're much taller in person,'' also would have gotten a laugh, too. The proverbial pig didn't need any more lipstick.”

IcyAlaskan replied on Oct 20, 2008 at 14:06:24
