As more and more comes out about the ill-vetted Palin, I think that this pick is going to backfire with everyone except the Christian fundamentalists. Jews are not going to like the fact that she was a Pat Buchanan Brigadier. Fiscal Republicans are not going to like the fact that she left her little town $20 million in debt and knows nothing about the economy, just like McCain. Military Republicans are going to be aghast at the possibility that she could be Commander in Chief. Did you see the line up of former Generals and Admirals at the Democratic Convention? That number should triple now.”

“You can't be more wrong.

Being a white, working-class Democrat who supported Clinton over Obama mainly because of his lack of national experience, I was going sit out the general election, vote for McCain in protest, or cut the top of the ticket by not voting for President.

When McCain announced his VP pick, he's managed to energize me in a way Obama never could. After I stopped laughing at his choice I realized the McCain/Palin ticket have to be defeated at all costs. Picking Palin as a running mate to pander to the religious right and possibly disgruntled female Clinton supporters without any thought about her qualifications to actually lead this country shows that McCain has lost his marbles, and he'll will do and say anything to try to get elected. The thought of a President McCain was frightening enough without the nightmare possibility of a President Palin, a woman so petty she fired the guy who wouldn't fire her sister's ex-husband, the state trooper.

You're crazy. McCain's candidacy is now invalid. A man, in his first major decision, that chooses Governor Palin, a woman he has met once and spoken with on the phone exactly twice, and thus doesn't actually even know, for the number two job is reckless and cynical and does not possess the judgment necessary to be President. Though I'm a Democrat, you can't tell me that there aren't stacks of more accomplished conservatives, women as well if he must have those optics, to put on his ticket. If he were ten points ahead she wouldn't even be on the list, my man.

I think the choice is astonishing in its insanity. Governor Palin may actually possess the most brilliant political mind of all time, but I don't care to take that risk. I think his campaign is over. But this being America, there's always plenty of numbskulls like you who drag the rest of us down every four years.”

The tough nut to crack is finding a candidate that would appeal to moderates and honest conservatives. Personally, I don't like Obama's Lincolnesque-style rhetoric. I don't see the need to destroy the South again to save the Union and unite the nation. I am sick to death of this rhetoric and the burdens it implies. I personally would like to see a movement to begin return power back to the states and reduce the power of business and corporations. With civil rights for all a given. The country is too complex to be run from Washington. And Americans of today are not the those of the WWII generation; we are extremely cynical about Washington's pretensions.”
