“Dr. Mukwege in the Congo, in the DRC who has been helping women that have been brutally raped and tortured by soldiers. He receives death threats daily because of his work. He performs surgeries to repair children's and women's mutilated genitals and vag1nas with holes in them because of how they were raped.
He is the founder of the hospital where these surgeries happen and people heal. He has been honored by the UN and would have put that million dollars to very good use.

That's only one of the candidates who has actually done something and was passed over in favor of Obama who said he would like to live in a nuclear free world.”

“You are right, pithy. Bumper sticker logic is the stuff propaganda is made of. The authoritarian personalities that make up the GOP base- do not really want to think about things logically. They just eat up stuff like "we are going to fight them, there so we don't have to fight them here" etc. So simple even they get it.

What is infuriating is that Democrats just need to start pushing back immediately. I applaud Grayson. Why are we wasting a nano second on bipartisanship? WAKE UP!”

“Bill's post reminded me of the 4 year delay in health care reform. Now how crazy is that? In the meantime- why don't we just lift the age restriction off Medicare and let everybody in? Then congress can drag their butts from here to eternity for all I care?”

“Bush wanted more faith based initiatives and wanted to pave the way to get rid of public schools.
There are still many of zealots placed by Bush in government positions. It sounds like there is nothing left of the conservative party but these religious nuts.

Mr Schaeffer- you are so right - bi-partisanship is a pipe dream. You would think that the churches would follow Jesus teachings and care for the least of us. That is what I can't understand- why is their conduct so far removed from the teachings of Jesus?”

“During the President's address- wasn't it striking how the Republicans white were in a group sulk? They had absolutely no interest in what the president was saying. They were holding parts of a bill like petulant children.

They are not interested in health care- why should they be- they are set for life. And no way they want to get off the health care industry gravy train.

All these horror stories of the government run systems in other countries are supposed to scare us. Why should we be afraid when we know government run health care works great for congress, the military, federal employees, seniors etc. But try to offer to everyone--- that will ruin the country. The petulant Republicans will throw their constituents to the dogs in order to stay on the health care industry dole, That's what their behavior says to me loud and clear. I am sick of it. The Republican party is a national embarrassment.”

“Chuck Grassley knows there are no death panels however that belief scares people and the GOP benefits from it. So he repeats it. My point which I think is very obvious- the same people passively accepted the actions of the Bush administration are suddenly hopping mad that a broken health care system is finally going to be reformed. It is all about opposing the black president for some and 2010 elections for the rest.

The sad thing is that although some of the screamers are just paid operatives, there are some that have been fed misinformation and are truly scared. The health care industry is dumping 1.5 million per day into defeating health care reform. Can you connect the dots? What is the GOP solution besides kick the can? We are already suffering from Bush kicking the can on Iraq and kicking the can on the economy.

What has the GOP added to the health care debate besides encouraging fear mongering. Tell me KristinNoelle- let's hear it. What is their solution to this unsustainable health care system?”

KristinNoelle replied on Sep 12, 2009 at 09:25:41

“First of all, there are a lot of Republicans who are completely embarrassed by the fear mongering people in their party. Republicans have added to the debate by bringing up issues like fiscal responsibility, consumer choice, offering alternatives to bring down costs and increase access. I can't say I know very many Republicans who want the system to stay as it is. But just because they don't agree with the democratic proposals doesn't mean they are against ANY reform.

We need to stop being so "my side, your side" about this. And why even bring up the War? It's not like pro-war = anti-health reform. I did NOT accept blindly jumping into a war, but I also don't accept blindly creating a public health insurance option. There are other ways that will work better in the long run.”

“Anyone showing up at a town hall with a gun is not interested in a debate about health care. They are there to intimidate. Same goes for the red faced screamers disrupting the meeting by shouting out "government takeovers", "rationing" "death panels", and "socialism". All of which is not true so they are either deliberately lying or stupid.

Where was all the outrage when Bush and Cheney lied us into war, spied on us illegally and robbed us of or rights. Now that could be called a government takeover! WHERE WAS ALL THE OUTRAGE THEN, KristinNoelle?

We are being screwed over by health insurance companies. Our current system is not sustainable. Now there's something to scream about!”

foureyedbuzzard replied on Sep 12, 2009 at 10:00:56

“The people who carried openly at the town halls were there to make a public display/statement about gun rights, and used the venue to make their statement public. They were not there to intimate anyone about the health care issue. Get your facts straight.”

gettingitright replied on Sep 11, 2009 at 21:53:59

“I say this all the time and have yet to receive a satisfactory response. There would have been a huge insurgence if a black POTUS did all these things. These people are outraged about esoteric details in various legislative proposals. They have no idea why they are so furious except that the POTUS is black.”

KristinNoelle replied on Sep 11, 2009 at 20:44:51

There are screamers and crazies on BOTH sides, but there are also sane and rational people on BOTH sides. I think my point was pretty obvious. You can't go around saying EVERY or ALL members of a certain group are the same.”

But where's all the reporting about the teabaggers screaming out TOTALLY FALSE accusations at these town halls. All they want to do is disrupt the debate in the hopes of defeating health care. You would think the MSM would be covering the consequences of not doing anything and the number of people with insurance being screwed over by their insurance companies.

Mob rule yield poor results. The MEDIA is going to be irrelevant soon. You get far better quality information from the BBC than our lapdog media.”

“Corporations are top heavy. We have the highest CEO to worker salary ratio in the world. Every other country the CEO ratio is a fraction of what ours is.

The bottom line for corporations has suffered because their CEO compensation rewards risky ventures with no penalty if they fail. What the worse that can happen to an American CEO- get fired? They don't care they have a solid gold parachute waiting.

The middle class is shrinking. The average American worker salary has flat lined while their expenses have gone up.. Free flowing credit and rising real estate kept the consumer alive for a decade but it all over now. The house of cards has fallen. So here we are...

Pretty dumb strategy to suppress wages so no one has any disposable income to buy your products. Duh!”

We need to get out of the World's Policemen role and start pouring that money into innovation here in the US. The military industrial complex wants to keep it's income stream. Well enough corporate welfare for them- they have to re-tool and build something else like wind turbines or something. We have to fire Blackwater, KBR and Halleburtin. We have to stop occupying countries period. Why don't we mind are own business and that right there will lower our threat level.”

What Obama Must Demand from Congress on Health Care

Commented Sep 05, 2009 at 07:59:57 in Politics

“I have been to a couple of town hall rallies where people have earnestly asked questions about the 1000+ page bill in congress while shouts of "socialism", "death panels" and "government takeover" erupted in the background.

Why don't we just take the age restriction off Medicare? Simple. Done. No 1000 page document for congress to pick apart with their partisan squabbles.

Why re-invent the wheel?”

mountclemens replied on Sep 06, 2009 at 09:12:28

“Yes, Opus007 and ChelseaC are right.

Simple. Easy to sell. Honest. Cost-efficient.

Obama likes to say that we can't "disrupt" the current "traditional" system. Nonsense. The Opus007 solution would "disrupt" only the private insurers who've been "disrupting" US forever. The private insurers have been denying care and rationing care all along.”
