“Sure 9 months with Obama being busy doing Cap and Trade, Health Care Reform, etc. I'm sure he couldn't find time to read some information on candidates for the posts. I think maybe canceling ONE of the Wednesday concerts might have done it.
It must be hard to defend someone who takes plenty of time for himself and very little for safety. I have also read that Obama hasn't written any of the health care reform, so why is he so busy? He has had democrats to the White house four times to push health care, so that is a total of 8 hours. One days work. Why can't he nominate someone for 9 months which he says is SOOOOOO important.”

“Most of the deniars I've spoken too are just living in fear. When I talk to them I find that most of their thinking is fear based. Not afraid of anything in particular but they seem to just have fear in their system and it drives them to some very unhealthy thinking and actions. Fear just does that to us most of the time.
Doubt as your friend expressed can be healthy. Doubt can lead you to the truth if applied to the pursuit of more knowledge and understanding. Fear warps our thinking and stops the conversation as near as I can tell. Maybe that innate fear i see in people is some primal force or maybe it's environmental, developed over time. I'm not sure.
What I found can work to change minds is to put a person at ease by first, not blaming them for the problem directly as if they are bad people. Reassuring them that we are all in this together. We all got here together and will get out together and that there are solutions helps.
Some will never even try to understand and they are a small group I think. I generally remain silent when I find myself around that type. I don't want to squander my energy yelling at stones.”

“The Homeland Security Agency itself is a grand example of closing the barn door after the cow got away. It was the Bush administration's way of looking like it was doing something and covering up the fact threat they let 911 happen. We already had a homeland security agency. It was called the FBI and FEMA to deal with after action issues with far less cost and fanfare they could be doing a better job had we not allowed Bush to cover is back side and make himself look like a hero when in fact he is responsible for the biggest intelligence failure in history called 9/11. Homeland security was one of the biggest, most wasteful expansions of government we ever had and it will never live up to it's promise. We can do more with our existing agencies and waste a lot less money doing it too.”

Right now, as things are set up, Wall Street and the mega-banks have no incentive to trade and do business with the middle class. There's more fake money to be made trading between themselves on make believe trades of paper and risky bets at the roulette table. Why make 100,000 dollar loans at 6% that pay off in 20 years when you can make 100 million dollar loans that pay off in days rather than years? Those at the top of this stinking pile don't create wealth anymore, they have reduced life to a spread sheet and they've removed themselves from the concept of public good and real wealth creation and venture capital. Senate Democrats Tell White House: Drop Cap And Trade Climate Change Bill
Commented Dec 27, 2009 at 15:33:53 in Green
“At a meeting about health care last month, moderates pushed to table climate legislation in favor of a jobs bill that would be an easier sell during the 2010 elections, according to Senate Democratic aides.
This statement is what's wrong with the conventional thinkers in power today. A good climate change bill is a good jobs bill and they needn't be separate or opposed to each other. This is a false choice. However, cap and trade is a dog that won't hunt. A good start on climate legislation would be to eliminate the corporate welfare in the present fossil fuel economy. We still give away leases on public land to oil and coal companies for a song and in some cases we even use tax payer dollars to build roads into wilderness for them to get their dirty job done. The oil depletion allowance and subsidies like it still exist. Stop subsidizing nuclear power development and research and funneling money into industries that work against the future. Corporate welfare is the problem. Wars are just another form of it. What do they cost? Imagine funneling the hundreds of billions we've wasted in Iraq and Afghanistan into clean technology.
There are so many other clean technologies that we already have and extraordinary improvements on the drawing board that with a just a little venture capital from Wall Street could deliver us into full employment and a clean economy in under five years but politicians and investors are gutless wonders without imagination.”

“You are absolutely right about corporate welfare for the fossil fuel companies, and about the ineffectiveness of a cap & trade approach to reducing CO2 emissions. Personally, I believe in imposing absolute caps (no trading) and a tax on carbon (offset by a reduction in tax on low carbon alternatives). This would encourage wealthy fossil fuel companies to invest in renewable energy projects, such as Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS):
http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/E nhanced_Ge othermal_S ystem
and to wind-down oil and coal production.
The MIT report mentioned in the wiki page on EGS estimates that the U.S. has a geothermal resource equivalent to "roughly 140,000 times the total U.S. annual primary energy use in 2005", and that 100 gigawatts of electricity could be generated each year by a modest investment of $1 billion over 15 years. This tells us that we don't need coal for electricity generation, and we can hugely reduce our oil consumption too.”

“The republican party manipulates the data to say what they want it to say because they are dillusional about how they are now perceived in the country.
Many people, including myself are opposed to "THIS" health care bill, not health care reform generally and although they keep repeating that this is a "government take over of health care" the majority of people know this is not what's on the table even though we've been asking for it and the president campaigned on it. Indeed, most of us want more government involvement because we can see that private industry and Wall Street can't be trusted to do the job properly. The Wall Street 19th century capitalist model can't work in health care. It is the antithesis of what health care requires. Health care is, by nature, a very risky business.
Republicans actually like the corporate welfare approach that came out of this because they win either way. If it passes all their buddies in the health insurance industry do much better and all the members of congress who own stock in health care insurance companies stocks go up in value. They can demagogue the bill too, as government take over legislation and play to their base who still cling to the failed dogma of Government can't do anything right. The sad part is the democrats handed them this gift on a silver platter. Frankly I think they're all in on this charade together.”

“The Japanese government is providing free capital to subsidize Japanese automakers so they can undercut American firms and gain/maintain market share. That's on top of the subsidies and protected market that provides about @1,000 extra per unit for a sale in Japan. And their cash for clunkers program will benefit only Japanese cars (actually, there will be a very small percentage of foreign cars so they can claim it isn't so - that's standard Japanese practice).
Basically the same for Korea. Germany has a VAT, etc.
You want an industry then the U.S. has to develop mirror image trade and industrial policies adapted to our situation.
Americans grouse with subsidies when our big firms need a bailout. Japan has been bailing out its firms for the whole period since WWII. They won, pal. They're smart. We, collectively, are misinformed (the public), dumb, or malicious (free traders).”

Feingold: Obama Responsible For Loss Of Public Option
Commented Dec 20, 2009 at 18:51:12 in Politics
“Obama has turned out to be a schill for the corporations on almlost every issue. Essentially a fraud. He might as well have an R in front of his name on camera. Feingold is right to blame him for this. There's no substitute for the support of the president when you need something important done.”

“Yes. And, anyone who makes it to the Presidency will be more of the same - right or left. Two sides of the same coin.
All we can do is force things issue by issue - where he has to choose between his AMBITION to be President for a second term...or what he promised. He has to KNOW there will be consequences and we have to not allow ourselves to be PR-spun by experts and a corporate owned media who get windfalls based upon his giving the store away to them day in and day out.
Lobbyists run this Presidency. That's just for starters.. ..”

“Oh?
Think how bad things were under Bush/Cheney and how bad things would be under McCain/Palin.
Shudder the thought.
The only reason we got as far as we did is because of the Democratic shift of power in congress and in the White House.
Replace a few bad ones and we can accomplish a lot more.”
