“This was a single-storey building, which drastically restricts the dangers consequent upon structural damage - could the Glasgow Emergency Services, talking so much about danger here, confront a damaged 3- or 4- storey structure?”

“It would be hard, but they would do it.”

“Unless the chopper was dangerously overloaded.”

“Get a grip man, i can't believe anyone having a go at the emergency services, or to even suggest that they are too slow.
The Fire /Rescue service of Scotland will be no better or worse that any other in the UK
These guys are all highly trained individuals, and i for one am glad we have them whenever we need them.
Remember....unfortuneately we are now dealing with recovering bodies.
That is tragic, but why put any more lives at risk by being hasty and endangering others.
i find these posts that are having a go at the rescue service absolutely beyond belief.”
scottishcarol on Dec 2, 2013 at 03:48:25
“The rescue crews are from all over the country. I think you will find extra caution may be required due to the helicopter which has impeded the crews from the outset.”
“As the ancients used to say, "There's one born ev'ry minute!"
And most become executives - Life's funny that way, innit?
In organisations where I have worked, the most highly intelligent, but well-balanced, found themselves backroom positions where they could remain happliy irresponsible at about twice mean income. You have to be to want the responsibilites and stresses of the top, or stupid not to have seen them coming..”

“It might be helpful if the medical profession could distinguish sodium from salt (sodium chloride), which actually depresses solubility. Most of these drugs are formulated as their sodium derivatives, and/or with sodium bicarbonate to give a fizz, but probably contain no salt at all - though it may well be that it is sodium that is the problem in both cases.”

“If it's sold as cotton, it should be cotton, which is, of course, a vegetable fibre. Synthetic polyester (a) does not need bleaching and (b) has much inferior absorption properties to cellulose (cotton), so doubt the Koskie bosh.”
“At least one change - in this day of near-infinite computer capacity there can be no reason for the 15 day limit on net check-in. When going to the backwoods for 3 weeks it is a considerable inconvenience and/or expense to check in for the return.”
“No religion offers stories as strange and unbelievable as does Quantum Mechanics, another not so simple answer to awesome questions.”
Puma Punku voodoo on Oct 18, 2013 at 05:39:11
“Quantum mechanics etc is very much still in its early days. Give it another 100 years and the world and the space we live in will be a very different place in terms of how we percieve it. Where as religion will still be stuck in it's own little box with even fewer followers.”
“Codeine is not heroin (or even morphine, from which heroin is made) but another of the three principal opium alkaloids. Still used in cough medicines. However, for all that you might describe morphine as desmethylcodeine, codeine is not going to be named (not even by typically sub-literate medics) as des-anything morphine. So the the article leaves the identity of this drug in doubt.”
“Surgeons not to cover theri faces either? In fact, given the problem of hospital infection, we might do better to go back to the one-time Catholic tradition of nursing by veiled nuns.”
Tony Gray 1963 on Sep 19, 2013 at 07:11:05
“Veiled nuns still nurse in many hospitals, however they cover just their hair & roll their sleeves up like the rest of us. Unlike our Muslim counter parts who if veiled do not have to roll their sleeves up, there's your infection control risk”
“Mach 10? Orbit demands around Mach 25. And since energy demand is proportional to the square of velocity, this proposal is scarcely getting off the ground.”
aphoriac on Sep 19, 2013 at 04:30:39
“Which is why a final stage booster is required, as stated in the article. The vehicle takes the payload to Mach 10, and then the payload with expendable booster detaches for the final push into orbit.”

“In strict English, what is illustrated is not a (covered) font,, whence infants are baptised. It is, as I stated, a stoup, almost certain be contaminated by innumerable hands, universal in Austrian churches, but near-extinct in English ones. Font, in the original, is probably a mistranslation: neither of my Austrian god-children were baptised from a stoup.”
