“This is another example (and there are dozens in the field of sports and entertainment) of what happens when low-life thugs are suddenly thrust into the limelight and given exorbitant amounts of money. And this is not a racial issue - there are examples from people of all backgrounds.”

joyce628 replied on Jan 01, 2010 at 13:06:52

“What do you call the white suited thugs on Wall Street? What do you call the Madofs of Wall Street? These people almost brought the world to an economic collapse and instead of being locked away in prison for pulling off this ponzi scheme, these white boys were rewarded. Stop the frigging racial profiling of these black athletes without any facts to back up your premise. The last time I checked, people can carry guns in bars in some places and government parks among other places. Darn, they were all over the place at President Obama's health care town hall meetings.”

“Are they thugs because they are black and have guns? Thats definitely why.”

“Your warped views of scripture are about 30 years old. Are you aware of that?

Read the first couple of chapters of Romans and you will find a specific mention of lesbianism.

And if you think Ruth & Naomi were lesbians...what planet are you from? Do you realize that the whole story is about their MARRIAGES...to MEN? Just because Ruth was devoted to Naomi doesn't make her a lesbian.

I think you have Mary Magdalene wrong, too. She was a "fallen woman" who became a disciple, not the other way around. Stay away from Dan Brown and read the Bible instead.”

“You still don't get it. He is differentiating Christianity from cults. The fact that Christianity believes it is the only correct faith doesn't contradict what Graham is saying about cults, who change core Christian beliefs and claim that they are the "true faith," even though they have deviated from what Graham would consider the 'true faith."”

“You don't seem to understand his second sentence. He is referring to a body of beliefs that have been held (generally speaking at least) by millions of people for two millennia. He contrasts this with cults which have broken off from historic Christianity.

And whether any of this is "worthwhile" doesn't relate in the least to Graham's statement.”

tck29 replied on Dec 24, 2009 at 09:32:48

“The central truth of the bible is that christianity is the only path to god, and all other beliefs are wrong. This is a direct contradiction of the first sentence.”

nexxtep54 replied on Dec 23, 2009 at 22:59:55

“The body of beliefs goes back a millenia before Jesus's time. They were stolen by the holy roman church and blended at the council of Nicea, circa 325 a.d. to form the Nicene creed (apostles creed) and to bind the many sects and cults unto the single taxpaying body of 'the church'. Any 'cults' that have parted from the holy roman 'Christianity' have been dealt with swiftly and with severe prejudice - as was the Branch Davidian of David Koresh. We understand it. Maybe you don't. And none of it is worthwhile because it is all like arguing over who was right in a fairy tale.”

Europe is a dying culture, not even reproducing enough to maintain its population. Part of their problem is allowing EU bureaucrats to regulate every aspect of life. America doesn't need that kind of "culture" - where a group of know-it-alls decide how everyone else should live their lives.”

The great tecnological advancements of the past were based on perceived human needs, NOT on what some think-tank weenies think is right for everyone else.

“If you think the world will play "follow the leader" behind the USA, you are sadly mistaken.

The EU would be delighted to see the USA saddled with all sorts of economy-crippling "green" legislation that would send us back to the dark ages while they feebly try to assert their superiority.

You really need to remove your green-tinted glasses and realize that there are other things going on in the world besides your agenda.”

“Europe is already doing more for green jobs and less for the banks. The bonuses are taxed at 50%. On the continent the automakers realise that if they do not make better cars - BMW VW and GM are all building electric vehicles now - nobody will buy their gas guzzlers. We have many small cars that run 30km on 1 litre - 120km on a gallon.
Where is the US? Driving SUVs that do 30 km on a gallon. And building more of the same.
So Europe bashing is the tactic of the ignorant and the uninformed. Europe leads and the US cannot even follow, let alone lead.”

cheforacle replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 19:55:11

“Actually green legislation is the key to moving our economy forward. Review the economic history of our country. You will find that the development of new industries has always been the driver of economic growth beginning with the steam engine of Robert Fulton, the railroad and telegraph in the 19th century, steel and coal and then the auto industry at the turn of the century, electronics and consumer goods in the post-war era of the 50's and 60's and then computers and IT in the 80's and 90's. Those who oppose green technology innovations hold our economy back. I'm glad the stimulus had $60 billion for green technology incentives but agree with Klein that it is not enough.”

But failing that, Lieberman. Its all about the less competent of two evils. Also, I'm pretty sure that Gore would better be able to keep him on his leash than Bush could Cheney, though I didn't really agree with some of Gore's general politics in 2000, either, IIRC.”
