The Rehabilitation of Eliot Spitzer
Commented Dec 05, 2009 at 17:53:43 in New York
“After reading this article and some the numerous comments, including the brilliant one posted here by our good friend Mr. Wangdoodle His Noodle, I went to the article links posted by Yerman in her response. There seems to be a lot of different issues being brought up such as whether or not Spitzer's points can still be valid despite the fact that his actions were completely at odds with his own legislation. Despite his business or legal acumen, he didn't just have an casual affair or a caring romantic relationship with someone other than his wife. He was involved with an illegal prostitution ring, the very type of which he was working as Governor to bring down. It would kind of be like if he were going after the "evil doers" on Wall Street, all the while taking inside stock tips on the side.”

“They're completely different things. The service he used is apparently a good one. It offers something of value for the money and does no harm. The goons on Wall Street that Spitzer goes after are far more deleterious in their actions and urgently need to be stopped from doing further harm.”

“Very interesting article.
Should be noted that the "collaboration" referenced in terms of the Judy Chicago
"Dinner Party" piece is viewed by many in the arts community as an example of the labor of many women
artists... in the service of one "superstar ."”

Obama and the Progressive Community
Commented Jan 19, 2009 at 15:51:07 in Politics
“Yes, I agree. Jodie Evans is clearly very misinformed when it comes to Obama's position on war in general.
It is common knowledge that Obama did not ride this "anti-war wave" Evans and others in her organization like to go on about. Obama rode an anti-Iraq War wave, while in fact simultaneously riding a pro-Afghanistan War wave as well. Furthermore, in the view of Obama, his advisers, and both many Democrats & Republicans respectively, Afghanistan is "the good war" and in their opinion a crucial part of the War on Terrorism, protecting both our national security and our interests in the region.
However, what you are incorrect about is that Yerman should "correct" Evans' falsehoods. As you can see, Yerman neither condones nor condemns what Evans or anyone else in this article is saying. All she is doing is reporting the various opinions of people from different political, social, and economic spectrums. If you have read other reported pieces written by Yerman, you will see that is essentially the case.”

Palin: You're no Hillary Clinton

“Great article, Mr. Jones. I agree with everything you and your friends said.
I think once on-the-fence Hillary supporters and undecided women voters see through Palin's superficial smokescreen and find out about her atrocious record on women's issues, they out they won't be too inclined to support a McCain-Palin ticket.”

“Palin wasn’t McCains first choice. She was probably # 32. After the 31st told John’s people that they were very honored but they have decided “to spend more time with the family”. Palin received John’s invite onto his sinking ship and accepted. With her executive experience as mayor, of Wasilla a town of 3,900 freezing Alaskans she is certainly ready for Presidential responsibilities. Considering McCain’s fragility she might be POUSA Considering the present Oval office holder, anybody could be POUSA.”

Progressive Conversations Create a Sea Change
Commented Aug 29, 2008 at 00:04:14 in Politics
“Thanks to this article, I saw a really interesting panel streamed live this afternoon about Sexism, Racism, and Ageism in the media and how they are affecting elections. Also, the panel discussed Swift Boat tactics and negative campaigning in general and their role in the presidential campaigns. Most importantly, how Progressives can take back the conversation from the Right.”
The Dems' "Unity" Event: Secularists Semi-Invited
Commented Aug 15, 2008 at 19:22:18 in Home
“Good post with some interesting points. However, quite frankly, I'm not really seeing the issue here.
As a person indifferent to religion, I have no problem with religious functions and displays. Plus, since I don't have a religious affiliation per se, I obviously don't have a problem with not being "represented" at a religious event.
A president's, or any other elected official's, personal religious views should not really have a role in their decision making. The president's job is to protect the rights of all people by upholding the Constitution, which treats all Americans, regardless of their religious beliefs or lack there off, as equal. As someone else here already commented, "You may vote with your religion in mind, but the government shouldn't control religion and religion shouldn't control the government ."
How I dream of the day when a person running for political office when asked about his/her religious views can say "it's none of your business" and that be the end of it then and there.”

“Irving’s mother was Jewish. David Irving happily confirmed it: yes, his mother was Jewish, but he was never interested in this fact, nor was he raised within the Jewish tradition. He therefore never considered it to have any relevance. Thus, according to orthodox Jewish tradition, David Irving is a Jew, plain and simple. Of course, Holocaust promoters can have no interest in advertising that the “main exponent” of “Holocaust Denial” is a Jew. Oy vey, what a publicity disaster that would be! (Even though Irving is, strictly seen, not even a Holocaust revisionist, but merely a benevolent observer.)”

“This is specious analogy. It does nothing to further this conversation, and it doesn't even make any sense.
From reading this article, it seems that what Yerman was trying to do was tie together both the New Yorker cover cartoon and the Irving event...an d mirror her feelings about the need for both
freedom of speech, and the public's right to demonstrate and react to that
which they think is ignominious and wrong.”

“People!
We all need to get over ourselves and stop arguing about the same nonsense ad nauseam, and move on if we are going to beat McCain in the fall.
At this point, I don't really care who the VP is anymore as long as we don't have 4 more years of Bush philosophy with tax cuts for Exxon, 100 more years in Iraq, and a potential new war in Iran.”

“Catch up on the news, this whole "dream ticket" it's not happening!
Let Hillary instead concentrate on bringing her supporters under the unity tent, opposed to promoting her own political agenda and that of her husband.
Plus, Hillary has the potential to drive away a lot Independents whose help Obama is going to need to win this election in the fall, not to mention the issues with Bill's finances among other things...
Let's start fresh by letting Obama's new committee find someone who can be effective. Besides how can you parade around preaching a message of change, with the Clintons who represent the old ways right behind you every step of the way.”

“Hillary is plainly trying to manipulate her way into the the vice presidency of Barack Obama.
I think she has too much "baggage" and completely contradicts Obama's message of "Change." I think there are many better choices for Obama to consider such as Jim Webb, or Claire McCaskill if Hillary wouldn't throw a fit.
Yerman brings out some interesting points about the split in the feminist community and in the Democratic party in general.”
