Kirsten Gillibrand: New York's Next Senator

Commented Jan 22, 2009 at 22:09:55 in Politics

“Carolyn Maloney has been my congressperson for over 15 years, she smart, experienced and has what it takes to be a first rate senator. Gillibrand, on the other hand, just got into politics a couple of years ago, and Paterson wants to make her senator? First Kennedy and now this?! I don't get this guy?!”

“He said he wanted a balanced ticket. He wanted a woman. He wanted somebody from upstate. He would have liked a minority. But there wasn't anybody who embodied ALL of those things. So he's two for three with Gillibrand.”

Commented Aug 29, 2008 at 17:09:26 in Politics

“So basically, at least as far as this article's concerned, McCain picked Palin on the basis of her cheery disposition and because she can help deliver all three electoral votes of a state that usually votes Republican anyway...yeah, smart move....”

“This is the stupidest VP pick by any presidential candidate in recent memory! McCain must have been pretty desperate to pick this lady!

If this was a move to get on-the-fence Hillary supporters and undecided women voters on his side, I think it is going to fail miserably. Besides, according to a recent poll, over 60% of women voters said McCain picking a woman for VP made no difference to them. If you don't believe it, check out this article on HuffPo from last week with all the statistics:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marcia-g-yerman/lifetime-ievery-woman-cou_b_119094.html

If McCain really wanted to choose a woman, there were plenty of much more qualified Republican women he could have picked. Instead, he seems to be pandering with his choice of a VP candidate who was the former mayor of a remote Alaskan town of less than 9,000 people, who is strongly against a woman's right to choose, with zero foreign policy experience. By the way, her husband works for a major oil company and she supports drilling in the ANWR, and taking polar bears off the endangered species list.

I think McCain just succeeded in basically handing over the presidency to Obama and Biden on a silver platter...well lets hope....”

“MSNBC really needs to get rid of Scarborough, Shuster, and Tucker too.

I think they should cut Michelle Bernard loose as well. She doesn't really add anything to the discussion whenever she's on. If they really want some conservatives, MSNBC should stick with Murphy and even Pat (of course as long as you have Rachel to keep him in his place).

Rachel getting her own show is definitely a step in the right direction. While there at it, they should also give Smerc his own show too and have Barnicle take over Scarborough's show and let Pat host it with him, the two of them go well together.”

“Joe really needs to be seriously medicated!!! Did you see him?! He almost foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog!

I feel sorry for Mika and Willie who have to put up with his crap on a daily basis!

The show is always so much better when he's not there. But when he is there, Mika trying to unsuccessfully calm him down during one of his Bill'O-like hissy fits are what keep it funny and somewhat worth watching.

Joe should leave the show and go to Fox "News," where he'd fit in perfectly, and let Barnicle take over.

And while they're at it, they should get rid of Shuster too...”

“I am one of the 620,127 people who signed the petition. I think that MoveOn should have chosen a much better representative to deliver our signatures than Nas. Two of his top songs are "Watch Dem N*ggas" and "Money is My B*tch." Picking an artist of his ilk, sends up a red flag, gives Fox "News" an excuse to ignore us, and it diminishes our credibility and our cause.”

“I agree with you completely, PSD827. I also signed the petition - at MoveOn.org - with no idea that it would be delivered by Nas, who now seems to be taking complete credit for it.

I find it extremely poor judgment on MoveOn.org's part to choose him to deliver the petition, on the Huffington Post's part to write about it as 'Nas's petition', and on Steven Colbert's part to give a free ride to a hypocrite who espouses racism, misogyny, and promotion of street violence - doesn't mention MoveOn.org with a single word. Colbert's absurd analogy of Nas's lyrics and promotion of street violence to Bing Crosby and 'White Christmas' doesn't cut it.”

Too late damage done -- what a total waste of time, energy, paper, and everything else -- not to mention GAS. The saying "Don't shoot the messenger" absolutely CANNOT be applied in this case but perhaps the saying "the POT calling the KETTLE black" can and I would guess that FOX Execs all got a pretty darn good belly laugh over the whole fiasco. And please no hate replies accusing me of being a racist and hate monger just because I chose to use an "old" saying such as "the pot calling the kettle black" when referring to an article or a "cause" involving a black man.

NOTE: If my previous comment almost worded exactly like this one gets posted along with this one - I like this one a little better so reply to this one if need be.”

Keith Olbermann Backlash Fueled By Declaration Of Katie Couric As "Worst Person In The World"

Commented Jun 12, 2008 at 18:24:17 in Media

“I like Keith Olbermann and his show a lot, but I think he is going a little over the top now...

Olbermann has always taken umbrage, and rightly so, with bullies whether they be in politics or in the news media, however he needs to watch out that he does not become a parody of himself...”

DDHereNow replied on Jun 12, 2008 at 18:59:11

“Agree 100% with everything you say above, PSD827.

But I also agree 100% with Olbermann's specific criticism of Couric on this issue. Worst person in the world? Hardly. But she was way off the mark here. Sure, sexism was on ugly display during the campaign season, but I cannot believe that significant numbers of people voted against Senator Clinton because of nutcrackers or the "Iron My Shirt" signs (neither of which were initiated by Senator Obama, his campaign, his surrogates, or - as far as I know - the media.)

Furthermore, the acknowledgement of a challenge is not an admission of not having met that challenge. Saying it's hard to be objective when standing in the midst of tens of thousands of cheering supporters is not in itself a failure of journalistic objectivity, or an admission of such a failure.”

All this is is a pathetic last-ditch attempt by Sen. McCain to answer the whole "Bush's 3rd term" assertion.

Everyone knows that this is the case, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, one of McCain's chief surrogates, who admitted on ABC on Sunday that McCain's policies as president would "absolutely" be an "extension" or even an "enhancement" of the Bush policies.
