Congress "Getting Completely Crushed" With Over 100,000 Calls For Obama's Healthcare Reform

Commented Oct 20, 2009 at 17:42:13 in Politics

“My local rep is Posey. Remember him? He was the one that came up with the birth certificate bill. Wouldn't do any good calling him. I didn't vote and would never vote for him anyway. My senator is Bill Nelson and he is for reform but not sure if he wants the public option but believe he would vote for it if his vote was needed. I am glad to see how all are making calls. I love it people take the time to get involved.”

“It is important to call those that are against strong public option. It shows just how many people in their state want it. It will be harder later on for them to denie the truth when they vote against it.”

“Hello all,

My name is Pam and I am an alcoholic. I have been sober for 22 years last May. I spent 7 years of alcoholic drinking telling my therapist that until there was a 12 step program that did not use god I wouldn't go to meetings. Eventually I had to go to a rehab just to keep on living. I embraced AA and used it sometimes three for four times a day for years. I tried the god business but found it very difficult for me to "get". I continued AA until about my 18 year of sobriety at which time I retired to moved to the South. I seldom go to meetings these days but I still use the 12 steps in my daily life. I would say that it was like a college education for me. I learned and i practice even without going to meetings. I currently do volunteer work for an organization that keeps me intouch with people who need recovery//help in living. It keeps me in touch with reality. Actually, the meetings in my area are very god focused and I find it difficult to attend these meetings. I do see a therapist on an as needed basis and that also keeps me sane. I believe as I have told many people that HOWEVER you get sober doesn't matter. One just needs to get sober. If it works for you it works for me!!”

Breaking It Off With Your Doc

“I will be seeing my therapist next Tuesday. She is an Obama fan and seems to be very sure he is going to win. I have been really active in the campaign. The first time in my life (63 years) I have done more than just vote. I am emotionally worn out already and the rough part is not here yet. I learned a long time ago not to put myself through emotionally disturbing events. I did NOT watch the Republican Convention because I was afraid I would want to just hang myself after. I am a TV addict and need to do what you have said is turn it off. I have always been a political junkie but this stuff is beyond my addiction. Pre Sarah I felt rather confident but now not so much. I know silly many women are. I know they vote differently than I do. I know they don't actually vote issues. My own daughter is in the military and I had a conversation with her that made me what to commit myself after. I have my therapist on speed dial for election day.”

“I live in Florida and while waiting in line to get Obama tickets for an event I began talking to a woman in her 60's who told me she was married to a die-hard Republican. She also told me that out of all of her friends there were only 5 that were Obama fans. Now the real information. She also said that they don't talk about the fact that they are voting for Obama. Hmmm let's hope there are many many more like that here in the historical RED state. We are hoping to make it a BLUE state this time.

Obama has a real machine going on here around the state. Yes, lots of young people.”

Switching Sides On The Death Penalty

Commented Jul 05, 2008 at 21:23:12 in Politics

“I live in Florida. Florida executes often here. I am against the death penalty, however, when people ask me how I would feel if a loved one was hurt would I feel the same way. I don't know for sure. My son was raped when he was 5 years old. Thankfully, he has recovered and lives a relatively normal life and the person was never caught. In those days police didn't even believe that things like that actually happened. A lot has changed thank goodness over the years. Last Tuesday Florida put to death a man that raped and killed an 8 year old little boy. It took 17 years. I watched the entire coverage on TV News. It was big news. I heard the family talk of how happy they were that this finally happen and neighbors held a big get together at the same time as the execution. God help me but I could not understand how any family could be happy to take another's life. Maybe one has to walk in those peoples shoes to understand their feelings. I just felt very sad about the entire situation.”

“Pammy - I posted this above - but I will do it again in response to your very insightful letter.
The man who was executed there in Florida last week was named Schwab. Take a few minutes to read a court document at this site about his back ground. I guess THIS is why his family is "happy" (can they really be "happy" now that there son is murdered?) about Schwab no longer being among the living. - DD

I want so much to see him beside your "old" man candidate. Just the scene of these two together on the same stage should be enough for people to decide who will be the best candidate to vote for in November.”

I wouldn't have believe this in the beginning but because of her behavior of late I can understand why you feel the need to hang in there to the end. Bill has made a complete fool out of himself (I voted for him twice) and so have so many of her supporters by not just taking her aside and explaining to her how to save her diginity and end this with at least a little respect from more people than her rabit supporters. You, if you are truly her friend needs to think seriously about this and talk to her. Unless of course you are afraid to do that!”

Four Things the Obama Campaign Couldn't Resist Doing To Anger Clinton Supporters

Commented May 28, 2008 at 18:55:03 in Politics

“I am not sure how you Hillary people figure you can have it both ways. The very few times Obama treated her as if she was just another presidential candidate he was tried and hung for his behavior. Like in the one debabe when he said to her "you are likeable enough" everyone jumped on that and cried out. If he said that to another man candidate everyone would have laughed and went about their business. He has been so respectable for her through this entire campaign than he would have ever had to running against another male. What is it you people want from him. He has indulged her every move kept his mouth shut (most of the time) and just gone about his business of winning. You have however, gone about your business of whining and threatening. Neither will work this time.”

Aleka4 replied on May 28, 2008 at 19:04:15

“Well she has totally exploited that.

Ever notice every time she screws up - like this RK assassination thing - she almost always gets off really light? These same guys she calls evil sexists *won't* call her out the way they would a male counterpart for fear of being seen as bashing the woman - so they "act like a gentleman".

And she is totally exploiting that in order to effectively neuter the whole party. On the day Leahy asked her to concede, she *shamed* women by crying that the boys were picking on her, and no one has had the balls to push her ever since.

Now no one DARES to take her to task for anything, because no one wants to be seen a "picking on the girl" - she exploits that and acts even more outrageously and destructively than any male candidate could ever get away with.

And IMO any woman who applauds THAT behavior - the figurative neutering of men by exploiting gender - is no feminist OR women's libber - they are a man hater, because what they are really cheering is "power OVER men" - not "equality TO men".

And now we know why her supporters seem so extra-hateful and irrational.”

I appreciate your loyalty and understand that with women this is a very important quality to have between friends. Having said that many of us have learned that sometimes that loyalty blinds us from seeing the reality of some situations. I believe you are smarter than that!! I have seen you often on TV and respect your mind. I wanted to support Hillary also but found after some time that I could no longer respect her behavior. It is argued here constantly but it is just that simple for me. I want a woman in the WH but not this woman.”
