“It seems race is a key aspect of the 20%ers - not an issue, but aspect. It seems Palin speaks to the deep fears and insecurities of blue collar whites who have been the pawn of ruling class whites since the beginning of the country and benefited from unearned privilege. Now they believe they are being passed up as immigrant groups and African Americans are beginning to find success in this country and the population shifts. While most whites are able to adapt and see a place for themselves in this new America, these "folk" see their unearned privilege slipping away and see no place for themselves in a diverse, technology-based world. They see the only world they know, small towns, changing, and they are losing the securities they had. They now have to compete on equal terms and they are unprepared for that competition so they are lashing out. I believe more people thought like this in the 50's and 60's (lets not even examine language from prior to that- it's ugly!) and it is a very positive sign that they are now thought to be only 20% of the country and are seen as a fringe group.”

Beck has practically bragged about his alcohol and drug abuse past and everyone that paid attention as we were growing up at the same time as George knows about his alcohol and drug abuse. Having a family member own a recovery business and having family that are in lifetime recovery, I can say that she is 100% correct in her comment of replacing one addiction with another. However, I do have to say that while Beck's issue on the surface may appear to be obtaining attention, the underlying factor is the same for all addicts in action. It is about power and control or at least feeling like one is in control and having power. That is part of the struggle. So yes, the media is an enabler in Beck's addiction and while his latest drug of choice may seem harmless it is not and he is counting on our freedom of speech to be his smoke screen.”
