“I am an American living in Australia as permanent resident.

We have Medicare in Australia,

And so, if you go a public hospital, all birth care costs also costs the patient nothing. All collectively paid for by all the insured via Medicare tax paying citizens and residents of Australia.

Australia copied the original concept of USA Medicare, with the original concept: It covers everyone, not just the temporary 'over 65' that was implemented. and it works very well.

Medicare for Everyone would work well in the USA: Some day, USA should try it!
(American model that that has proven to work well in Australia for 40 years!)

And total cost of healthcare is”

“You are twisting the facts: I lived in England for two years and I can tell you the violence you are quoting is fist fights (e.g. assaults and battery) usually driven by binge drinking of alcohol by youth under 30, and desperate drug abusers robbing for money. Plus, unlike the USA, more crimes are reported to Police in England because they actually get justice (e.g. prosecution and convictions, etc.) than in USA, where many crimes go unreported because nothing happens.

MURDER (e.g. someone is actually killed) are much lower in England and, As someone below pointed out, 40x lower by use of gun.”

“It is not too late to re-consider:
To get back to balanced and back to the boom years of Clinton: Vote for Obama instead:
It is slow but it is getting USA back to where it was in the 1990s.

And some more facts:
Taxes on middle class is lowest since 1960's
Obama is not a socialist
Obama was born in the USA: Honolulu, HI, USA

But if you choose to believe in Republican propaganda and mythology rather than think or consider the facts, and want the fleecing to continue, then there is not much hope for you.”

Commented Oct 28, 2012 at 02:39:41 in Politics

“An yet Democrats are the only ones to deliver a balanced budget since Nixon 1969 (and that was technically a carry over from Johnson)
And posted just after you, this gem:
1) Taxes today are lower than they were before the President took office- down from 16.5 % of GDP (gross domestic product) to 15.8 %. and
2) 009 deficit was 8.3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). The 2012 deficit is expected to come in at 7.6 percent.
So Obama did exactly what he said he would do: Cut what is needed to start getting this under control, which was under much worst circumstances and harder than what Clinton inherited from Bush Sr.

Then consider this:
The Republicans are trying to trick you to vote for them so they can restart the deficits like Bush did (new subsidies for their Health Insurance friends in the bogus Medicare increases, new wars for Cheney and his pals, all charged to your children's and grand children's credit card), which is Corporate welfare going to their bank accounts.
They may shift who benefits, but that is because they buy/sell companies and chase where the money is funnelling when they are in charge: They are fleecing America and you are too blink to see it: But keep listening to your propaganda and wonder why things go wrong and getting worst AGAIN if Romney/Ryan are elected.”

“Completely uninformed: Completely consulted with Republicans and after getting everything they wanted, they refused (except 1) voted for their own plan. This is a really stupid "Romneycare" system that is 100% American pro-private Insurance company plan, it was right wing Heritage Foundation proposed in 1990's to counter Clinton's Medicare for everyone plan that Gov. Romney even implemented (because it is 'free market' based.)

By the way, in early 1970's Australia copied the America's Medicare plan and implemented how was originally to be implemented: all citizens / permanent residents are covered and pay 1/2 of what Americans pay in taxes to support Medicare and doctor bills are 1/2 because they do not need the extra cash for overhead and staff for the insane private health claims systems (different forms for each company...) and chasing payments when same companies invent reasons not to pay ("acne was pre-existing condition... so not paying this critical treatment/consultation for something complete unrelated to acne").

Please try to keep informed by doing real research or talking to real people instead of listening to the lies of GOP, Fox and their private Wall Street insurance company sponsors.”

Eric Holder: Voter Registration Should Be Automatic For Eligible Voters

“It is the same in Australia: Voting is not just a right, but a duty as a citizen.

You are fined if you do not have an allowed excused, such as sickness, overseas / out of state (if state / local election), working (e.g. Physician or Police on duty during voter hours), etc. The fine is relatively modest: $50 to $100, but is is a good incentive to get to vote.

You can still lodge in a blank ballot if you want, but you have done your duty.”

Melburnian on Dec 12, 2012 at 05:40:52

“Actually, In Australia, when you get to the polling both your name is struck off and your given your ballot papers. You can then do pretty much what you like with your paper, you can cast your vote or just walk away. So it isn't really compulsory voting - its more like compulsory attendance at the pooling station.”

“Government ID with picture and voter/residency status.

Tied to a national database, it would record the who has voted: Can not vote twice. If there is an issue, can make both provisional votes until determined who is the real voter. This actually may be cheaper and less costly than all the convoluted methods we are doing now x 50 states, DC and 7 territories. Save money, find provable and prosecutable fraud. Sounds like Win / Win to me.”

White House Finally Discovers New Health Care Reform Argument

Commented Aug 18, 2009 at 06:11:28 in Media

“It is time to link it back the Financial Crisis.
Why is it that all American Families (who are not over paid pampered executives stealing from shareholders) so broke: Health Care is the main reason:
Why we have not gotten raises for last 30 years: Can't really blame the honest business owners for given meager wages when the health insurance premiums outstrips inflation and any other gains in they had in profits / productivity. A massive black hole, that insurance thing: Unchecked, and without real competition.
And greed of the providers are also to blame: Hositpals and some doctor groups to game the system: Why is it that end of life care is $800,000 on average for Medicare: Because they games the system to strip as much wealth as possible for treatments not effective (and not often not asked for...)”
