“We had cold cold rain in Georgia today. While I had planned on going to the mall to shop for Christmas, I ended up spending the day at home snug in bed or by the fire with hot cocoa.
In any event, a foot of snow is A LOT more to deal with. I hope you were able to be home, snug and warm, despite the power outage!”

Integrative Mental Health: A New Model For Depression Relief
Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 11:25:33 in Living
“My neighbor is a sweet, mid-60's woman who lives alone. She is scared and lonely and thus, sad.
She went to the doctor and, suddenly, she was scheduled for a complete hysterectomy. She had no symptoms, no lumps, no bleeding ... nothing. So, why! As I encouraged her to get a second opinion, she was whisked into surgery. Her surgery happened so fast, she almost had no time to make aftercare arrangements.
As she healed, her depression grew.
Now, her doctors have her on lexepro, klonopin and more. The poor lady is a wreck. And I have no idea what to do for her.”

“It could be the sudden change in her estrogen levels from having the hysterectomy. This often happens afterward, but especially when you haven't gone through menopause yet. Since she is sixty I'm going to assume she has, but that might not be the case. She should figure out if her symptoms before the surgery are ever treated through a hysterectomy and what or if there was an alternative solution she was not told about. Most doctors won't do a hysterectomy unless it is necessary because of the side effects of the hormone imbalance. Also, many insurance companies will not cover it unless the doctor insists that it is mandatory.
I hope some of this helps.”

How Sarah Palin Made Herself Indispensable While Destroying the Republican Party
Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 00:46:03 in Politics
“Thank you for your interesting comment!
I can understand how some Republican powers might consider a Palin presidency based on intentions to manipulate her, as you say, a la Bush.
However, I am not thinking of the power brokers. I'm considering the Republican base ... birthers to flat-earthers ... that embrace a mentality of anti-intel lectualism , wanting instead a bobble-head leader they can have a beer with.
Palin, like Bush, is a bobble-head. You can drink beer with both of them. Except Palin will charge you to do it.”

“From the article: "Yet the fact that she had such a limited understanding of the world actually recommended her to the Republican base."
This is saying that Republicans revel in ignorance. And worse, they want to be led by someone equally ignorant and unqualified.
How stupid is that?
I will never get it.”

“No, they want someone to run that they can manipulate a la G. W. B. He was totally unqualified to be President as well but Cheney pulled his strings and he was told what to do at all times. He was just made to think that some of the decisions were his. He realized this way too late, the damage was done. Believe me, I am not defending him, just relating what the GOP want to do. S.P. is totally unqualified to be a politician. She has so many bad traits, she wouldn't qualify to be dog catcher.”

“Hoffman isn't a very strong candidate.
Now that he will be forced into the media and have to regularly speak and present himself that should reveal to the voters how weak a candidate he is and unsuited for the office he is running for.
I think the state and local government will probably consider adjusting their rules for running for an office and ask that the candidates come from their own district now that this has happened.”

“There are many fine charities, not just Catholic, so I hardly need to START a charity. I fail to see the sense in your comment. But, oh well.
Personally, I like Nspire, a homeless outreach in my community of Atlanta. They dress, feed, educate the homeless and more.
See, this is just a small, hardworking charity, helping about 300 people a week. They are very much needed here and I like that they help children.
Meanwhile, at the Vatican, the pope's belly is full as he lives in a city of gold. With so many starving the world over, isn't this just ... lovely.
That the church forbids birth control, and condoms nails down for me the evident need to control and punish women, adding to misery index of children especially. And by all means, let's have more starving, homeless children. Because, you know, it's pro-life.
But that silliness aside, isn't it lovely that the pope likes his little red Prada loafers?.”
