“Exactly, SM. I imagine, however, that in the US, your agreement with your ISP contains language saying it can terminate service unilaterally at any time, for any reason or no reason. As CL says below, for any tracking routine that is created, the truly tech savvy will create a work around and distribute to the masses. That's not the way to change behavior. Subscription is the only way to go. Create a studio consortium that charges a monthly fee for unlimited downloading of movies, that subscribers can keep but not redistribute. Same can be done with the record labels.”

Commented Nov 20, 2009 at 20:19:11 in Media

“Leave it to Viacom to make its fastest rising kids franchise feel unwanted because they can't suck every dime out of it for themselves, leaving the creative talent with peanuts. The Gabbas will run out their deal with Nick, use them to grow the value of the show and its characters and jump to Disney. Way to go, Viacom!”

“News flash: She's a kid. With money to spend. At her birthday party. Wearing a grown up birthday party dress (which the Post conveniently has no picture of, so we have to assume no one from the paper actually saw anything themselves). Dancing with a band. No drugs. No booze. No orgies, No scandal. What's the problem?”

“The problem is called "slow news day," so, being owned by Rupert Murdoch of Fox "News" infamy, the New York Post makes it up.

Boycotting Fox "News" won't cut it. We must boycott all "News" Corporation holdings, including their 20th Century Fox movie studios, MySpace.com, Hulu.com (no thanks to HuffingtonPost.com for carrying Hulu.com content, btw!), National Geographic Channel, Wall Street Journal (Bloomberg.com and the Economist for the truth about the same subjects) ... boycott EVERYTHING that makes revenue for Rupert Murdoch.

“Murdoch sides with the Chinese because he has significant business interests there, not the least of which is Sky Asia, where the heir apparent, James Murdoch, was trained. Murdoch is 100% about the money and the power. Why he is allowed to hold dual citizenship is beyond me.

Sounds like Rupe, much like his frenemy Sumner Redstone, is starting to lose it. He never used to babble in public like this or bad mouth specific people. Goodbye to both of them eventually.”

Trans might be good for the next one, it has the required 'Tr" and could be short for Trans Am (like grandma)

Or Transmission. Transparent.

Yup, Trans should be the name of the next Palin grandson!

Murdoch May Block Google Searches Entirely From His Newspaper Sites

Commented Nov 10, 2009 at 16:52:50 in Media

“Murdoch is certainly within his rights to insist that Google doesn't carry stories from his news organizations. Google is also within their rights to block whatever they want to from their search index. What Murdoch fails to realize is that the paywall only works when the commodity being sold isn't readily available elsewhere. The Wall Street Journal is the primary financial news source in America. He can, and does, make a paywall work there.

With the amount of general news available 24/7 from myriad sources, many of which consumers already pay for (cable sub fees, broadband fees), erecting a general news paywall will be one of his biggest mistakes.”

Is Lady Gaga Turning Into Amy Winehouse? (PHOTOS, POLL)

Commented Nov 09, 2009 at 15:22:40 in Entertainment

“If she and her fans dig the look, more power to them. Professionally speaking, Winehouse has been off the road and out of the studio so long, it's doubtful she can achieve the level of star power she had a few years ago. Not unless her comeback record is outstanding. If GaGa maintains her work ethic and keeps the publicity machine stoked, she could achieve Britney level longevity. That's about as good as it gets for machine music, where the dancers and costumes are the show.”

Niasia replied on Nov 09, 2009 at 16:22:07

“But you see GaGa can actually perform, actually SING...you are judging by a cover and that is not fair.”

misanthropexlife replied on Nov 09, 2009 at 15:33:18

“You're right. It's actually a shame because Winehouse is extremely talented. However, she will probably never see success again because of the way she has trashed her life. GaGa, while not an amazing musician, is more talented than Britney so I say she takes advantage. If GaGa is successful long term, like Madonna, I wouldn't be surprised/upset.”

“In the last two days, Huff Po readers have been treated to no fewer than 3 headline articles about Bono, a person whose sole clame to fame appears to be her sexual reassignment surgery and famous lineage. Would it be possible to reassign future space to individuals who have accomplished something in the entertainment field, since this is the entertainment section of this site?

Further, to refer to Bono as "he" is biologically incorrect. Bono is not a man. She is a woman who has undergone extensive cosmetic surgery and hormone replacement. She is more than welcome to consider herself whatever she wants and I wish her all the happiness in the world, but she's is just not a man.”

“Don't take this the wrong way, PS, but this isn't about stigma or discrimination either. It's about money. It is the producer's responsibility to do whatever it takes to return as much to the show's investors as possible. If there were a blind star of equivalent talent and drawing power, my assumption is that person would have gotten the role.

If you want your "fair shot", so to speak, ther's nothing really stopping you and those who feel like you from raising enough money to open your own all-blind production of this or any other show you want to. Unitl then, it's inappropriate to ask this producer to gamble his investors' money on blind cast principals with little or no drawing power.”

PlaceboStudman replied on Oct 30, 2009 at 19:08:20

“It's about money and the fact that the producers believe that a no name actress who is actually disabled will not have the same level of ability to act as a sighted/hearing actor. There will never BE a blind/deaf star of equivalent *name*, because blind/deaf (and other disability) actors are not given the chance to prove their skills. And that *IS* discrimination, even if it's unconscious.

and the whole "open your own all blind show" thing was already tried. It was called Separate but Equal, and SCOTUS has already deemed that unconstitutional

And the gamble of a play or movie's success or failure is not dependant on it having big names. It depends on having good people in it, who draw crowds who are active and engaged enough to spread the word and *make* a no name actor into a "name" actor”
